I enjoyed this game so much, I played it twice back to back with different classes. Then I got ME1, beat that and played through a 3rd time with my imported character.

I'm on my 2nd playthrough on the first (Hardcore, wanna unlock Insane and play it from there), with an Engineer this time around, and I'm still loving it. I'm definitely getting ME 2 once I finish the other games I bought and get my main ME 1 character (Soldier) to lv. 50.

Sorry, playing through ME1 at the mo( actually thats a lie, I'm playing Reach. I'll hav to come back to ME when I'm bored of that and have also finished The Orange Box, Batman AA and finish another playthrough of Alan Wakebecause I got the DLC)

Anyway, I was wondering how does ME2 compare to the first one?(I've got the 2nd sitting patiently, unopened, for me to finish ME1)

Because I'm not exactly enjoying myself with it. It's simply OK ,or good at a stretch, but it has such glaring technical issues(crap framerate, major texture pop-up, etc, etc.) and has such grinding gameplay sequences(The Mako, around seven different environments in total) that I don't see the gem that everyone fell in love with.

So please can someone just honestly tell me how much better ofa game the 2nd one is?

I would say that people that are into traditional RPGs will like the first one better than the second. Me I'm more action oriented so I really had a hard time getting through the first one. I would get so far into the Citadel, and never seemed to know where to go next, so it got old and boring pretty quick.

I rented the second one just try try it out. Fell in total love with it, and played it through 2 times. Went out and re-bought the first one.Once I finally understood what was going on, I learned to listen to what the NPCs were telling me,learned to use my Journal, and realized I can't just rush through the game. When I did these the first one became a really good game to play through. I personally still think the second is better, but both are great.

So basically if you have a hard time getting through the first one, play the second one, it is Epic. Then go back and play the first and see how the characters develop. I do agree the Mako gets old, and in the second one the planet mining does, but everything else more than makes up for it.

Well yeah, I've never really been one for RPGs but I did love KOTOR on the ORg.Xbox so Mass Effect seemed like a sensible buy. I'm really only playing the first to get a sense of the story, characters etc. for the second one.

But I just really can't bring myself to play for more than an hour at a time. Some scenes just send me to sleep. The Citadel, like you mentioned just looks like one big whitewashed maze and it makes my head hurt trying to find where to go. I'm not saying I think its a bad game, I'm just praying the second one fixes the many problems the first has...

Anyway, thanks for the answer man, much appreciated.

prefer ME1, ME2 just seemed like a 3PS with a few RPG elements. Kinda like a 'dumbed down' version of ME1chaoscougar1

Pretty much, I enjoyed it but nowhere near as much as the original. No 'kinda' about it.
