Mass Effect 2 First mission question.*Spoiler Warning!!!*

Ok, I just finished the segment where you meet Jacob and eventually Miranda. All throughout this part you are stalked and see others getting mutilated by a giant robot. My question is, is there a way to fight him? I was hoping to get to fight him but the mission ended and I ended up somewhere else. Just wondering if it was because of my choices or if you do not fight it yet period. Thank You.

Did you go to the Human Colony yet? That's where you fight a mech similar to the one on the ship.

No, I am about to start that. I just found it strange that they led up to a fight with the robot on the ship and nothing happened. I'm at work and its been bothering me since i left this afternoon. :(

Yeah I think Bioware just wanted to build up your hate towards it just so you can absolutely destroy the thing in the next mission.
