no.. I didn't care for it either, I had bought it, I kept getting stuck on the game, and then when I completed the main questline, I immediately got rid of it, I would get oblivion over mass effect, any day

If anything, half the time you didn't really even know that you were playing an RPG. While it was still a RPG, there was plenty of action.

true..but that was only if you followed the rules and added the right stats to the right skills. people complain about the game saying it was crap and then you find out they were a bioic class trying to use all types of weapons

Oh Christ, do I even have to explain this? Mass Effect received a great deal of praise from critical circles, and it sold very well. You are trying to explain why thousands of gamers and every major review outlet are mistaken, except you didn't explain anything. "It sucked" is not a critique. It's just you stating your opinion without even explaining how you came to it. Other posters can't offer support or argument to your opinionin any meaningful way, because you didn't provide any insight into how you came to it...unless you were intending to receive "I agree/I disagree" answers, in which case, this thread is just a survey.

It was a good RPG. An RPG puts you in the role of someone. Like if you had Gears of War the RPG you'd see where Marcus lived, where he kept his armor. You'd see the conversations he has before he goes out on missions to blow away Locusts.

That's the same thing with Mass Effect, you play the role of a Specter for every waking moment of his life. You see him have conversations with people, land on the planet and begin his investigations for the Council. In his life combat is very much a given but it is just a small part of his experience, that is an RPG. You can play games like Oblivion for hours before getting into combat.

I loved it, when I saw the graphics mainly during the cutscene were you are about too leave the Normandy and enter eiden prime. I was just shocked the only problem I had with it is the fact it ended like it did. I thought I was going too go somewere else and fight another reaper, but anyway it made me want more can't wait for two.

I liked it alot, but exploring the planets became such a bore since they all looked the same. If they can make each planet unique and fun to explore for the next game it will be 10x better.

HELL YEA! Elder Scrolls or Fallout 3 are way better than Mass Effect. In the first three hours of the game I just looked for one damn person to start the first quest or mission or whatever they call it in space.

I liked the game it seems like a solid game. I thought it would be 10x better. The enviroment and characters are nice to play in, it puts you in a realsim futuristic world which i loved. The game play was average at best, but i enjoyed how you can gain levels, missions, make choices ect. I beleive mass effect 2 could possibly best rpg of all time if they fix some flaws.

Hum, where to start... Lets start with the points that I could possibly agree with you on. 1) I didn't like the vehicle combat in the game much. Most of it was simplified to the point you could get a big enough distance to dodge just about everything coming at you and slowly pick off stuff one by one. But it didn't play that big of a part in the game anyhow... 2) A lot of the story line was extremely similar to many sci-fi novels and games of the past, however the way they blended from place to place helped it feel more original than it was.

3) I didn't like the real time shooting and aiming much. Either make it a shooter with a autosizing reticle dipicting how bad my shots are really going to be or just let me target it with a button push and select 'attack' and do the dice rolls for me please. The psuedo-aiming was disappointing. 4) I had issues with the item system... I never seemed to have any space... Now parts that I don't agree with you TC. This game aimed at many different facets of social culture, intentions, and intrigue. From having the rough and tumble woman of the game being the religious one, to having the main enemy actually have a sense of right and wrong to some degree this game was an interesting twist to the standard RPG of 'go save the world' (or in this case, the known galaxy). If you want to read a better organized take of the game from my perspective you can view my review... but I doubt you would. The start of this thread reeks of trollishness. You provide no defense to your opinion and clearly state your 'stance' in a way harshy aimed at popular opinion, as if to incite us to rage or something by such a unclever and useless comment. It's almost a horror to think about all the electrons being wasted on conveying your completely inadequate and unsupported muttering... EDIT: minor grammatical and spelling mistakes.

I didn't hate the game, but I couldn't bring myself to play through it either. It reeked of being undercooked... Examples? Well, for starters, the laughable attempt at animation in the game. Jumpy, glitchy, awkward, and stiff. The characters looked so unrealistic while moving it was annoying. Some extra care should have been taken for such a common animation as running. Just using the sprint button transformed your character into a 70-year old speed-walker. Ugh. Being able to explore planets was a great idea on paper i'm sure, but what the hell happened in it's implementation? Let's be honest, the "range-rover" thing had no business being put into the game with the planet landscapes in their current form. With the amounts of bumps, crevices, and all-out terrible terrain, something should have been done to the rover to make travel a little more enjoyable. Why not make it a hovercraft, so at least the amount of times nearly getting stuck (or getting stuck altogether) would be kept to a minimum? The graphics were pretty poor most of the time. I know I'll take some flak over that, but bring it on. They should have firmed up the framerate, or texture pop-in, or even both before the game shipped. As it stands the horrendous glitches overshadow any of the graphical pluses this game may have had. You can have the highest resolution textures in the world, and if the game can't process them fast enough to see them, it really doesn't mean a thing. The worst is standing in front of a NON-MOVING object, and watching as it slowly morphs from an ugly, flat-shaded blob into a slightly less unattractive, fully textured object. Now that's 2-3 seconds well spent. The RPG elements were nowhere near deep enough for this game to be considered an RPG first and a shooter second. The weapons all felt the same, most of the upgrades had little to no real tangible effect, and the "magic" was boring (and most times made the graphics glitch even worse than before). The leveling was superfluous at best, and at no time did I feel a true progression in my character, ability-wise. The dialogue trees didn't work nearly as well as expected, since in most cases you could say what you wanted and the direct outcome would be the same, or the dialogue would simply guide you down the required path after exhausting all other "options". I was so bored with most of the conversations that I hammered through them, just to get on with the game. For an aspect of the game that was given so much attention in the media, as well as by fans, I still think I may have missed the point. I don't feel that it in any way offered anything useful or groundbreaking to the RPG genre. The shooter elements were worse than the RPG elements. Again, the weapons all felt the same, but even worse, the combat was clunky at best. Movement wasn't tight enough, aiming was terrible, and every gunshot felt hollow, and completely void of any true damage. Vehicle combat fared the worst, as the mechanics felt like they may have been fresh back when "Cyber Sled" hit the arcades. That's my view on Mass Effect. I know, most may see the game differently, and I'm willing to accept others opinions. But the game (most obviously) just wasn't for me.

At least you have something to back-up your opinion, and for that reason I appauld your post. I would have to agree with your comment about the dialog, something that I would like to reference to Bioware's RPG's in general. They give you this dialog 'wheel' that really doesn't do much. Reload many of the parts in the game and pick any of the other 4 or so choices and your person and the persons reaction to it is usually so similar it doesn't even matter. They could replace all the choices with 'Bad' - 'Neutral' - 'Good', seeming most of the text is so blantantly obvious which path it takes you down anyhow. There were shining points in the game where the dialog mattered, but for the most part it was indeed choppy and had false 'depth'. The RPG elements however did outweigh the shooting IMO though. Though there were 3 major paths you could take with your character in terms of skill sets and the three different paths of 'good' 'bad' 'neutral', all of the dialog inbetween missions and such expounded on the characters and their intentions much more than the shooting aspect. The fact you skipped through them probably caused you view to be very warped toward 'this is just a bad shooter' instead of viewing it as 'who is this person and why are they here?' RPG game.

raahsnavj

What do you want then? To be able to make vastly different dialogue decisions and have vastly different outcomes? So when the Council asks me if I want to be a Spectre, I just say "No, screw you guys" and then go about the rest of the "game" as a commander in the Navy, patrolling for pirates, and never learning about the Reapers or anything else. We have that; it's called Oblivion, where I can ignore the world-threatening demonic invasion and spend months out in the woods picking mushrooms. The game has to go more or less in one direction if it's actually going to tell a story, or at least, if your character is going to have any responsibility to that story.

They could replace all the choices with 'Bad' - 'Neutral' - 'Good', seeming most of the text is so blantantly obvious which path it takes you down anyhow.

raahsnavj

Do you not want it to be obvious what you're saying to someone?

I would rate it average at best, the only reason I can think of that people force themselves to like it is the fact it's an exclusive. There are much better conversation simulators out there and the running and gunning felt aweful. 5.5 out of 10. BTW my 5 (average) as of late seems to be equivalent to a GS score of 7.5 which is what any game capable of booting up properly seems to get here these days. I don't think it's a "bad" game, but I certainly saw nothing to indicate it is above average. At least KotOR held an acclaimed license.

i think is one of the best 360 games, tbh is hard to believe that some1 think of it as a BAD GAME cuz it isnt, i mean, i didnt like halo 3 but hell!, is a good game tho!
