might be spoilers, not sure whats considered a spoiler lolYou're the kind of person who doesn't appreciate a good story. As for me I loved when I dropped on Eden Prime.
so i just borrow the game from a friend and i have played 2 hours in and it has been an extreme bore-fest. i spent more than half of my time in the citadel running back and forth through long loading times and now i have to look for some chick that is somewhere in the galaxy, who in the EF am i supposed to do that? out of the few battles ive fought, they were all boring and repetetive. shoot, warp, shoot warp. and the game practically aims for you. im a vanguard and i use a pistol 100% of the time and killing things is absolutely no trouble whatsoever..... am i just not far enough in the game or whatever? also the storyline can get confusing with all these weird names for things. i cant tell if they are talking about a race, a place, or someone specific... im level 8 by the way

I bought it cheaper on ebay because I was skeptical, too.
I'm about 20 hours into the game, and I think it's pretty damn good.
I wasn't too fond of the begining either, yet I don't have that strong of dislike for it as you do.
As other people have said, maybe it just isn't your type of game.
But I can tell you that the game will pick up soon enough, maybe just not how you want it to.

well i got a question about mass effect. how do i change my armor? im a soldier and heavy and medium armor is greyed out to mefdsfgs
you must upgrade your heavy armor skill to a certain level before you are allowed to equip those specific types of armors. also, not every character in the game are accessible to heavy/medium armors, depending on their class.

Starts out slow. And another reason would be that this isnt your kind of game.
As many have already said, it just doesn't seem like your cup of tea. Mass Effect is a roleplaying game first and foremost, and therefore story, character developement, and character interaction are the main focuses.
Mass Effect hooked me straight from the beginning, and hasn't let go. This game continues to get better, however it was truely amazing as soon as I turned it on, and if you are just hoping it will get better, maybe you should stop playing and stop trying to fool yourself.
This experience is really worth it, however you have to want it, and know what it is that you are getting into. This isn't an insta-gib fest where all you get is fast-paced action, this is a storytelling experience, and it is told VERY well in all respects.
Your loss, however.
People with ADD should not play these sort of games,i blame ESRB...they should really add "Intended for smart people" to mass effects rating. NasRex
He's only about 2-3 hours into the game. I understood how the whole upgrade thing worked about 4 hours into the game and I'm clearly not a retard What ADD have to do with it being smart?
I think KOTOR is byfar better than Mass Effect.Ghost_702
So far I'm finding that to be the case for me as well. The game looks great no doubt and I'm liking the story and the political aspect to it a lot but not really digging the combat. I guess becuase I didn't expect it to actually be a third person shooter. When I think RPG I don't think third person shooter. Now that isn't a problem since it's somewhat enjoyable but I wish things were a bit slower paced in terms of combat. I've just made it to the Citadel and during the mission on Eden Prime it seemed a bit to easy at times. Sure you can pause things to issue ability commands but it's so much effective to just shoot since you have to kill things fast before they get on you. The bridge to the train seemed to be the only challenging part but pulling out the sniper rifle and taking cover took care of that problem. Though trying to steady that thing took some work.
Perhaps its because I took Solider as my character prof that makes it seem to easy at the moment. I'm about 4 hours into the game but I think I'll restart and take Engineer or one of hybrid profs. They seem like they'll be more of a challenge.
Another issue I have is the camera. It might take some getting used to but I wish the angle was similar to KOTOR or Jade Empire. The cinematic feel to the game is very nice but due to that I don't really get a chance to take in the areas I'm end unless I slow to a crawl but then that makes it boring so I have to keep moving. Why make such a great looking game is you can't play it and take in it's look at the same time?
Quick question. Do characters ever stop looking similar in terms of weapons? It seems the charactes I have in my party carry their weapons in the same location and it kind kills the feel to things I think. If you unequip them do they disappear or will they stay on the character's back?
Also are there any melee weapons in the game? I think this is what made KOTOR better for me, at least at this moment. I liked being to have characters that would rush into combat with a sword, lightsaber or staff while others hung back and fired blasters or rifles or healed. It was the mix that made things interesting in combat.
Well no wonder it's boring for you, you're not being absorbed into the world. It's the best story-telling game of its generation with the best dialogue and dialogue system in any game to date. If you can't see that then it's just not the game for you. For me, however, it's my GOTY 2007 and one of the best games of all time.

the answers to your questions are:
no
probably not
no. the closest you get to a melee weapon is the shotgun.

the game isn't for everyone...especially you.
Sorry, have to agree with the original poster. I'm almost finished with the game, and I find it completely tedious. I am a longtime fan of RPGs, so I'm tired of seeing people on these forums say, 'maybe it's just not your type of game'. It's just not as simple as that (KOTOR is one of my favorite games of all time). The game mechanics are awful, the Mako is about the worst game vehicle ever, it seems like I've spent more time in elevators than in combat or conversation, and while the story is alright, I wish it wasn't so completely humorless. Most of my favorite science fiction shows/movies have a tongue in cheek sense of humor that I've always loved, but ME takes itself completely and utterly seriously. I'm going to finish it, since I've invested so much time in it already, but it feels like an onus rather than a privilege.

I hated the Mako at first to.. but oince i got use to it I found it perfect handling. It just has a very high learning curve IMO
I don't think Mass Effect is overrated, it's a great game. For the people that say it is so short, you are probably on casual mode and only completing the main quests which is like 20-30% of the game. If you don't like the story and the conversations then maybe rpgs are not for you. I don't see why everyone is knocking this game. There are a few minor problems (like the learning curve you need to do well in the Mako) but other than that I think it's one of the top, if not the best, rpgs on the 360. And the battling does get more interesting and more intense once you become a spectre and leave the Citadel.
