i keep seeing all these comments on how xbox360 can't hold the size of metal gear 4.
i have to be missing something here. i've played longer, equally good looking games on the 360.
and it didnt need 10 discs like that viral portrays.

so please. calmly tell me a legit, well developed reason why 360 couldn't handle mgs4 if they simply cut some content (drebin telling you about each of the beauties [nice touch dude, but no one cares!]) or taking a few unnecesary areas and maybe making graphical cuts.

(dont even say motion sensor controller either. that would hold as much weight as a wet paper towel)

please and thanks guys!

It probably has to do with the size of the game (in gb). The Blu Ray disc holds a lot more storage capacity so that's probably why...

yes but sometimes developers fill parts of the disc with "blank" files to push the game code to the outer rim of the disc to make it read faster, but they always include those "blank" files as part of the size... Honestly no one knows why it can't be developed on the 360, does it matter though, its not going to be made on it

If you spent years working on something that is making millions as a finished product would you like to go back editting and cutting things? Game developers have lives too and i'm sure butchering their work to do it all over again isnt a particular bright part of them.

Honestly I think it has alot to do with the active camo system. Also the game is pretty massive and to port it to the 360 wouldn't do the game justice. I mean look at some of the ports from the 360 to PS3 most are no where as smooth in gameplay, and its not due to being able to handle it its all about production costs and man hours. Bioshock , they basically had to recreate the game to work on completely different architecture. If it does make it to 360 you would be missing out on alot.

Isn't happening my friend. there is no way it would work. Unless they cut out all the video, which isn't needed anyway. Makes for a long game. Would be nice though, I would like to see what the game would be like with no mandatory harddrive installs.

It can be done on the 360, they may have had to cut something out to make it on the 360 but no doubt they could have made it on the 360, the developers just decided to make it exclusive to the PS3.

There was an interview with Hideo not to long ago and they asked him this very question.

I believe it was a matter of disc space and having to redo a lot of the cutscenes over. He just doesn't want to do it.

yeah but then again, mgs4 is ps3's best selling game (and the ony good one, might i add) i'm sure dev's have lives too but they also have jobs AS DEVELOPERS and if theyre paid to do it, they will. its not like theyre doing it for nothing! putting it on the 360 would open it up to an american market and therefore $$$ cha ching!

I know the game could be released for the 360, though I doubt sony would allow it to happen since the game has been so substantial in moving PS3 units.

Yes, the Blu-Ray does hold more data than the discs a 360 can hold, but ultimately they can just do two discs. Look at Lost Odyssey. I was confused by the achievements until I opened my gamefly and saw...there were four discs. What the hell.

The reason that MGS4 in its current state couldn't be transferred to the 360 is that the PS3 uses a unique graphics card. It is unique from the cards used in 360's or PC's. The big dichotomoy between the two is that the PS3 graphics card has a completely different way of doing shaders. From what I've read it's a better, apperance wise, though more complicated shader system to work with. Ultimately the PS3 is capable of running games that the 360 cannot. This is a double edged sword. Yes, the PS3 is on a technical standpoint the better console, but designing games for its graphics are a pain so developers are fine just going mutli-platform and not utilizing the PS3 to its full potential. Though, for games designed specifically for the PS3 they are going to utilize the unique shaders thus making a game that would require a reworking of the engine to get it to run on a 360. That is what they mean by a 360 not being able to run it.

The long and short of it, though, is that MGS is to PS what Halo is to Xbox. Sony won't be giving a big name lease to microsoft any sooner than Microsoft will give the thumbs up on Sony making a Halo game.

Oh, and on the developers doing whatever they're paid to, it's not true. My landlord doesn't development, and his company refuses to do anything involving the Wii. The motion controls are too much of a pain for anyone to be willing to work on it. They don't like the PS3 either, but it's not as bad as the motion controls to work with.
