The interest level of this forum is less than 100 people and not all agree with the idea. Get your facts straight.
Mcderby4
Whether the people on this thread think this is a good idea or not is irrelevant to our discussion. Don't try to change your argument. Let's review your statement:
Who cares about gamerpictues or avatars. Nobody even pays attention to that crap.
Mcderby4
You're not addressing the question of whether these avatars are a good idea or not. You're stating that "nobody" even cares about it. I pointed out the fact that obviously some people care, because this thread exists; if no one cared, no one would have even replied, and this would be on page three by now. But the obvious fact is that people, on this forum at least, do care; at time of writing, this is the third most populated thread on the first page. So, whatever interest level this issues garners, it's greater than "nobody."
After presenting these facts to you, you come back with this unusual statement:
Yes maybe in this forum, but I wasn't referring to that. I was referring to the other 13 million Xbox Live uses...
Mcderby4
You know what a poll is, right? It's where you take a small group of people, determine what their opinions are, and assume these opinions are representative of a larger body. That's exactly what we have here on this forum. Is there any reason to assume that the inhabitants of this forum don't represent Xbox Live? I asked you this once. You responded that the interest level on this forum is low. It's not. Keeping with the idea of the poll concept that we just talked about, only a few people in the thread said, "This is pointless." The vast majority cared enough to express an opinion in some form.
You go on to say: "Well, some people don't think it's a good idea." Is that supposed to be a rebuttal? Disliking the idea is having an opinion on it. I really can't believe that was your response. Let's summarize your first and last statements in this exchange:
You see how those don't go together? Before you dig yourself a deeper hole, I suggest you just start out fresh. Here's a suggestion:
I don't care about this in the slightest. Whether I have a picture or a little animated guy is completely irrelevant to my gaming experience.
Mcderby4 should have
You can express your opinion (of not having an opinion), without assuming nobody else cares.
Or here's another possiblity:
Three other people in this thread have also stated that they don't care at all. Clearly, this is a meaningless issue to some gamers.
Mcderby4 should have
Avoid words like "all" and "none." They make arguments easy to pick apart. I don't think this Avatar thing is a real big deal, but I care about it in some form. If I possessed your mindset, I would insist that everyone thinks this is a major issue and cares about it deeply. Obviously this is absurd. It's equally ridiculous to state that no one cares about it. The real answer probably lies somewhere in the middle.
Personally i think it COULD be cool if they added unlockable "items" for your Avatar attached to achievements. Imagine if you could earn Master Chiefs helmet for your Avatar for beating Halo 3 on Legendary. Or a chainsaw for getting the "seriously" achievement. I think that could be fun. DZBricktop
Thats actaully a nice idea
I can't see Microsoft abolishing gamer pictures. Lots of members have paid out for gamer picture packs. If there is such a thing, it would be an alternative to a gamer picture, not a replacement.
Thorpe89
Emphasis mine. That's good thinking. I agree that if this does occur, it will be a supplement, not a replacement.
I don't understand why you are making such a big deal of this. I just expressed what I thought about this avatar situation and people start acting very defensive toward it. Anyways, I'll drop the subject seeing the fact that there is no point in bringing this any further.
[QUOTE="SolidTy"][QUOTE="Englando_IV"]That's really lame. I mean I expect Sony to copy Nintendo; Sony doesn't doesn't have a creative bone in its metaphorical body. But MS? For shame.Englando_IV
What the...? Where do you think M$ came up with the idea of Two Analog sticks, Rumble, Disc Based Console System, DVD playback, and more.
What do you think Windows is?
Lord, I enjoy my XBOX 360, but I don't pretend to live in a world where Microsoft is an ORIGINAL company.
They ripped off Sony, SEGA, and Nintendo to get where they are.
That's okay, though, I know this and enjoy the 360 games, BUT you apparently hold them up in some sort of High Regard.
For Shame, indeed.
MS didn't steal any of those things from Nintendo other than rumble, but that along with the others is pretty much industry standard by this point, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Industry Standards don't come about from nothing. It takes companies replicating others works to make it "Standard". This is something Sony does, but the king of all companies in this industry, is Microsoft.
You calling out Sony, but being surprised at Microsoft is quite surprising. Don't stop on account of my list, there are many other things that Microsoft copied from Sony (and Nintendo), who copied from Nintendo, who copied from Atari. It's the name of the game. Microsoft has already been acknowledged of entering in the industry DUE to the PSOne's popularity!
I don't love Xbox becuase it's original, I love it for the sweet games I play every week, and the fun Online it has (One of the great things M$ does right.)
Either way, I have lived long enough to see when what you call INDUSTRY STANDARDS didn't exist.
The N64? Only had One analog and you had to buy Rumble and Maintain BATTERIES(Of course, Nintendo didn't invent Analog use, but they did popularize it first with the N64).
The Dreamcast? Only had one Analog (Sega guessed by looking at Sony's PSOne Dual Shock and Nintendo's N64 controller and thought Nintendo's One analog was the way of the future), and you had to buy rumble + Maintain batteries.
The SNES didn't even had Analog, but brought us Shoulder buttons! (Nintendo did it a gen later, but where is this STANDARD you speak of?)!
The NES brought us the DPAD!
Microsoft jumped in and even took things that only the PS2 did, ANALOG SENSITIVE face buttons, and added them to the original Xbox. That particular feature didn't end up being popular, but Microsoft didn't create it either. Watching DVD movies?
LOL. I didn't even mention where WINDOWS comes from.
I don't understand why you are making such a big deal of this.
Mcderby4
It's irrelevant why I'm making a big deal of it. Debate my points; don't guess at my motives for making them.
I just expressed what I thought about this avatar situation and people start acting very defensive toward it.
Mcderby4
If by "acting defensive," you mean "disagreeing with you," then yes. You didn't just express your opinion. You said that nobody cared, in effect expressing everyone's opinion for them. This is not only presumptuous, but demonstrably incorrect.
Anyways, I'll drop the subject seeing the fact that there is no point in bringing this any further.
Mcderby4
I'll accept that as a concession. See you around the forums.
is that true? because if so there is no way i'm buying one.Price for said Avatar= 1,200 M$ points
Price for "content packs"= 800 M$ points.
