So since I can't actually go PLAY Mortal Kombat, since I bought it for PS3 and PSN is currently down (I posted this so that people would understand why I am ASKING rather than just going to play for myself, not so we could all talk about it, so please don't), I have a few questions about Mortal Kombat online. I am a newb to this franchise, and fighting games in general, so obviously hopping online is a daunting premise for me.

1) Is the online play filled with move spammers/exploiters? I mean, there is always going to be a certain degree of move spamming, but is it really bad in this game?

2) Is this one of those fighting games that devovles into "whoever can juggle the other one first just wins with an endless combo"?

3) Is there a matchmaking system for both ranked and unranked online play? I mean, if I play unranked games, is it all random or is it still based on some degree on your w/l ratio?

I'm just afraid that when I can eventually get online again, I am going to get beat down left and right and from every other direction possible, and if that is the case I guess I just want to brace myself and do whatever I can to avoid it. So, along with my questions above, do you have any tips for a novice? Right now I plan to learn (and hopefully get close to mastering) Sub Zero, since I find him the coolest and I like his style the most. I do kind of want to play the story mode, but right now I'm not sold on it, and I bought this game more for the online play (and hangin with friends). So yeah, tips and advice would be great!

you get your spammers....the ones i have faced, after about the third or fourth hit with the same move you can usually find a way out of it and give them a good whipping. If they are spamming then that is most likely all they know, so once you get em in a combo...its like a prison shower scene for them.

The most effective way to do the most damage is yes...juggling....i have seen people get very good juggles and kick but. So yea, learning them is pretty importent. However I have experienced a lot of lag online and find it very hard to pull of those types of moves...so I usually find myself doing the sam 123 combos over and over.

There is matchmaking for ranked and unranked, I would think ranked matches you up with people your skill level and unrakned is just random. But I am just guessing I dont really know.

But yea...spammers usually get there ass kicked if you can get out of it. LEARN to JUGGLE! I have yet to play a game where it felt like offline thought, I have always had a considerable amount of lag unfortunetly. Hope that helped.

First of all, there's no such things as spamming. There's only people losing to dumb tactics. And Secondly, WTH do you expect a fighting game to be? A game that rewards combo skills? Of course the person that gets to combo the best has an immediate advantage. But zoning, footsies and smart defense will you an even bigger advantage than combo skills will ever give you, no matter whats the fighting game.

to me there is a difference between a regular "combo" and juggling. For me a combo is a stringing of moves that constantly keeps your opponents off balance, whereas juggling is exploiting an obvious game flaw. But that's just because I'm not a fighting game person, so I'm not used to it. The main difference between the two for me is that when you are just being hit by a combo, it is easier to break than being nonstop juggled in the air. Anyway, I'm not loving my chances online, since the story mode on the "beginner" difficulty setting has provided one or two tough fights. Still, I feel as though I am improving.

Juggling mechanics are BUILT-IN INTENTIONNALY. Its not an exploit. OMG why did you even bought this game if you're that whiny and ignorant about fighting games?

holy crap dude, roid rage much? I have some other opinions you might disagree with, you wanna go get pumped to freak out about them? If you can't handle a difference of opinion, why do you bother coming on forums? Back to the original point, I LIKE THE GAME, I am just trying to learn the mechanics. And if juggling is intentionally built in, I don't have to love it, but it doesn't mean I can't work around it. So thanks a million for your opinion, but I think you need to calm down.

what is it with fighting game fans? Are you all in the same club or something? I'm trying to learn about the genre after having the game for two days and two people have already told me to stop playing. Friendly community. A combo that depletes that much health must obviously be useful, and I will definitely learn how to do it, and I have no doubt that I need to learn how to juggle, but I think I can take a week or two to learn them... I haven't even beaten the story mode yet and I am playing on beginning for christ's sake!

You've been spouting agressively ignorant things. Because you're apparently 1 of those people that believes that there's a ''right way'' and a ''cheap way'' to play. So yeah, that gets on my nerves. Peace.
