Yeah, likely, he'll go "Wow, I can do soooo much more in this game than oblivion, why did they remove 90% of the game I wonder?"

Well its visuals are dated and combat's not as great but overall if he can look past those two flaws he'll fall in love with the game. I played the GOTY version at least 400 hours.
Definitely give Morrowing a play.
Comparing Oblivion and Morrowind, the only thing that Oblivion does better is the updated graphics. Everything else Morrowind does better. Look out for the Morrowind GOTY edition as you get all the expansions as well.
One problem with getting Morrowind first, is that you might not get round to playing Oblivion for several months. I've easily spent hundreds of hours playing Morrowind, most of it nothing to do with the main quest, just exploring and doing hundreds of side quests and missions, becoming heads of several guilds, finding unique items. Simply one of the best games ever.

I know I was.
You should skip Morrowind and go straight to GOTY: Oblivion.GameMasterCraig
I recommend just the opposite. Skip Oblivion altogether and just play Morrowind. It will last you a long time and you'll probably play through it several times.
im i fine with the xbox or should i get the pc version?link-a-link
I'd highly recommend the PC version over any other because you have so much more freedom.
The PC version comes with an editor which has two main benefits. If you want to make your own stuff you can, but the real benefit is being able to use stuff that other people have made and use it in your game. There is a huge community that has made thousands of mods to change/enhance nearly every aspect of the game, from small changes like adding a new weapon, to making entirely new games using new textures and everything.
Bear in mind that Morrowind was designed to run on PC and ported to consoles. Oblivion on the other hand was designed for consoles and ported to PC. Nearly every ported game plays better on the original system.

Was Oblivion that nuch of a let down?I admit compared to Morrowind it is mildly dissapointing, but I wouldn't say it would warrant you skipping the game altogether.Morrowind has an amazing atmosphere that I still fall in love with if I decide to pop in the game. Sadly, the game is epic in scale, overwhelming almost because of the size of the world.
Oblivion doesn't have the same atmosphere as Morrowind, but its a beautiful game that I believe you should play if you are looking for tighter gameplay plus the good graphics. Its a very good game that I'll probably continue here today sometime.
No, Morrowind isn't a hands-down better game. It is disappointing that in Oblivion there are fewer guilds, no were-wolves, and no levitation; however, Oblivion improved on its predecessor in many ways.
-The combat is much more involved and exciting
-The quest system has been vastly improved
-Graphics are obviously superior
-The AI in Oblivion is extremely impressive while almost nonexistant in Morrowind
-While there are less factions in Oblivion, the quests for the factions are more involved and in my opinion simply more fun.
-Yes there are few voice actors, but the voice acting is very well done nevertheless.
-There is a greater character creation system in Oblivion
-Lock picking is now interactive with a fun mini-game
-Sneaking is actually fun now
-Archery is realistic now
-Cyrodil (the setting of Oblivion) is simply a more vibrant and interesting place than the desolate ashlands of Vvardenfel (the mainland/setting of Morrowind.)
I could go on but I am so hungry I could eat cow. I need to make some breakfast. :P
I just have to say that Oblivion is one of the best games I have ever played. Morrowind is also an amazing game, but playing it is not at all necessary to understand or enjoy Oblivion. If he plays it first he won't be disappointed with Oblivion, I think he will be more impressed with Oblivion than Morrowind, even if there is less content in Oblivion. But, my opinion is that the content in Oblivion is more fleshed out and better.
Good luck.

I couldn't agree more. My Morrowind character was at level 32 before I even remotely began the main quest.
I agree with GSU28. I played though Morrowind, and when I got done I vowed never to pick up another Elder Scrolls game again. I'm glad I didn't follow up with it though or I would have missed out on Oblivion. You can pick up either game and have a very long game to play, but I found less things broken in Oblivion than Morrowind... which has made it a lot more fun to play.raahsnavj
I actually wasn't saying that Morrowind sucked or that it was unplayable. Morrowind is unbelievable, I just think Oblivion is better.
hey can i run morrowind on this (pretty basic rig)
Vista premium

No real connection except for the fact that they're in the same world.
Sadly, Oblivion was dumbed down (I suspect for the console) in terms of stats and character development, and introduced the god awful level-based scaling.
Morrowind had epic, desolate scenery, whilst oblivion was generic forest through and through.
If I were you, I would advise him to get Oblivion on the PC (if at all possible) and mod it with MOE.
Morrowind is however, a bit more hardcore, so he's at an advantage if slower RPGs are his sort of thing.

I prefer Oblivion to Morrowind any day. In fact IMO Morrowind was missing combat in a bad way, but had an over abundance of all other elements, but for me the combat was worthless, in turn making it not as much fun.jmartin1016
i'll tell you how i feel when im done with morrowind ;)

can anyone answer this?
Oblivion and Morrowind -albeit in an inderect way- are connected, you'll find that there are countless references to morrowind(or the storyline of morrowind),throughout the idle chatter of the townsfolk,or even in some of the many books abundant in cyrodil. There are some subtle references to Morrowind in the main storyline as well.

Personally I didn't like Morrowind but Oblivion I do like. Guess it just depends on the person.
