wtf! in australia you can buy m games are made for 15+ but you can buy them if your a little younger

with ma you HAVE to be 15.

why the heck do you have to be 17 just for m? that means you have to be 17 to play tony hawks project 8 and stuff HAHAHA

sonic0491

Wow, now THAT is a more fair way of rating games. I am 15 myself and I play M games without any horrible side effects, like insanity or becoming a murderer. Seriously, I think it is fair to let 15 year olds play a game with unrealistic blood and strong language, which 13 - higher ages already know and speak.

Yes... the law should be throughly enforced, as it already exists. Enough kids on XBL playing mature rated games.

Would you vote for this law to pass if it decreased young kids playing "M" rated games on Xbox live like Gears or Rainbow Six? Just curious.

aco512

what do you mean "law to pass"

isn't it already a law

but do stores enforce it? most of the time, no

I don't know what stores you are talking about but every time I wanted to buy an M rated game I have to show ID

No, it's not law like selling rated R movies. The ESA is a independent organization and has nothing to do with the government. Publlishers can choose to have their games rated, but they don't have to. Most, if not all, do so though. It's more along the lines as a guideline to show parents what these games contain. Why do you think you always read about states trying to pass the law to make it illegal and then keep getting shutdown?

So far, I think GameStop is the only place under CORPORATE POLICY to follow the M rating of 17 and not selling to anyone under that age or the staff gets in trouble or something.

NismoZZzz

yea but if theESA decided to LET kids under 17 get M games, then the gov. propably would start to enforce it themselves

The rates must be only recomendations, not laws. People should be able to buy what they want when they want, and if the have the money.

It was annoying when I was 16 trying to buy Killzone and GTA, they should probably change it.Strife88

I happily turned 17 last month, but as a 16 year old I always got around the problem...all I did was drive to my local GameStop, buy myself a $60something giftcard, then go home and use the giftcard online to buy w/e game I want. There's always a way to get around these ridiculous laws, and mine worked like a charm ;)

The 17+ rating should apply to AO (Adults Only) games, not "Mature" games.

Yes. If you can't buy R rated movie tickets, you shouldn't be playing M rated games.

*sigh* The 42 people who voted for the third option must not play with all the immature 20-30 year old people >_> I say worse behavior from adults rather then kids.

I'm 16... I have no problem getting them though.

However, I think playing with anyone 12 and younger is ridiculous. Hell, 14 and younger. That's partly why Halo 3 will be... sad. It'll just be a party game for me and my friends, for a while.

DarthLukeboy
That's a good point. If it would reduce the number of idiots playing the good games on live I'm all for it! Who do we have to bribe to make this a law?

Why would I want such an idiotic law to pass? Sure most kids should be banned from Xbox Live, then again, so should most adults.Legolas_Katarn

Good point. + We were all underage once and most of us know how crappy it felt not being able to buy certain games without parents or whatnot. I don't wish the same fate on others, when like he said there are adults just as immature as the underaged kids that buy games.

i dont believe that any media should be illegal to distribute ever however then again it is nice to have censors so that three year olds arent watching porn, but i do not thing that the legality should be discussed but maybe like some kind of consent system? parental permission required idk but no i would never vote for any law allowing the censorship of media hollywood6258

Its not censorship of media. The media is allowed in its original form. Its just limited to certain age groups which is fine and should be done. What is needed are parents who take an interest in what their minor children are doing and playing and who won't let their little hell spawn of a child do whatever he or she wants.
