I bought the play and charge kit about 3 years ago and it looks like the battery is finally dead, even though I barely used it last year (only bought 2 games for the console, never played online). Anyway can I expect MS to give me a new one for free? Or should I just stick to AA batteries? Is that cheaper?

get more AA batteries?

Ive been going on the same batteries for 4 months now with the play and charge kit, if my play and change kit isnt on it wont turn on my controller. The play and charge gives it just enough to run.

Yeah the kit works technically, but like you mentioned I need to have it hooked up to the console. What I'm trying to say is that I can't get wireless play, since the battery that comes with it is dead. I know Sony replaces them for free, not sure about MS.

Sorry, you are out of luck unless you buy a new one. Lithium Ion rechargable batteries only have a finite life span based on age and the number of charge cycles. Seems like you have to buy a new one.

Paying $12 for a new battery every 2 years or so sound cheap to me. If you go with just regular AA's I think you would be spending more then that.

I figured it was worth asking since, as I mentioned, Sony replaces the PS3's for free.

Thanks for all the input guys. I found some cheap on eBay so I guess I'll just buy another.
