Gears of war all the way.. i could have gotten just it with my 360 and be happy.. plus perhaps the quick charge kit to keep the battery costs down..

Gears is an excellent choice, Oblivion would be as well since there is a lot of time to spend in the game.

yes, the premi is a must because it comes with a hard drive which u have to have to save your games so you dont have to start over every time you turn the 360 off..

Yep... I'd go with the premium along with Gears... When he hooks up his 360 to the internet, you get a free month of gold when you register for a silver account, so that is definately the way to go. That way you save that extra $50 for another month.

I recommend Vegas, its twice as good as gears online imo, though gears is still a good game, and it has a really good single player as well.

It really depends whether you want your 16 year old son playing a mature rated game. Crackdown isn't bad as a sandbox game and it shouldn't be too late to get one with the halo 2 beta attached which is good value if you can get it.

I think new 360s are selling for under retail on Ebay now.  I know used ones are, but giving the delicate nature of 360s I'm not sure I would recommend that.

Get the Premium (399.99) and Gears of War (59.99) and then you get 1 free month of live with the 360 console.... so he'll be good. Then if you wanna be an extra cool dad, give him a $60 gift card to best buy or somewhere so he can pick out 1 more game

Agrees, I would get him the Premium Pack with Rainbox Six Vegas and LIVE subscription (but if you buying the premium pack brand new you get a month of LIVE free. So I guess he could always try it over that month and then look into buying the Year subscription)

Yes. This would be the perfect gift. A bit overpriced (Around $500-$550) but this present includes everthing to enjoy the xbox 360.

nvm. COD 2 might come with the premium system. My dad had that option at x-mas he told me but he got a DVD instead (I was in disbelief). So get just live if you have that option.

In my opinion: -Xbox 360 Premium System -Gears of War -Xbox Live Gold subscription (not immediately necessary though since the system comes with a free month) I'm 16 and that's what I got for Christmas and I couldn't be happier with it. I also got Oblivion but since you said your son has that for PC already it probably isn't worth the 60 bucks.

Who the hell are you to say that his son isn't mature enough, huh? I think his parent can decide that for themselve.

Ask him what game(s) he wants.

He may love sports games, racers, action/adventure, FPS isnt everyone's favorite.

Gamefly subscription is a great idea, though.

Definately get the premium system, its worth the investment. i'd go with Xbox 360 Premium Xbox Live 6 months or 1 yr Gears of War, but if you're strict about gore go with Oblivion. GoW has an option to turn off the gore though.

You're all forgeting something. After tax, the system is gonna be about 450. Here in new orleans, mine was about 445 after tax. So all these recommendations of games and live subscriptions are out of his price range. If you look around in sales papers, some stores have been doing a promotion for the past couple weeks where you get a free game with the purchase of a system. If I'm not mistaken, you get like 3 games to choose from. I just remember that GRAW was the only title that stood out. So if you can find a store doing that deal, get him a premium system with a free copy of GRAW.

unless you get a core system for him you wont spend under $450. even if you get a core system which is $300 you would still need to get him a game, a memory card and you would be nuts if you didnt get a warranty for it as well due to the terrible durability track record they have. unless you want it to break and have him wait a month while he has to send it back to microsoft to fix.
