for a week now my xbox has been starting to freeze/lock up, so i figured something was up.
I was watching a movie on my xbox yesterday when, as it ended i heard a loud noise come from my tv. I checked the xbox and it was frozen.
Restarted the box and it froze at the startup scree, then after one more restart i goe t my first RROD.

Afterwards i wasnt able to get anything but a RROD so i called up microsoft and got them to sent me the box for repairs.
funny thing is after that about an hour later i started the xbox and it worked fine...no more red rings.
I started to test it out today and as I started it up the boot screen made a lous noise again and showed artifacts and glitches on the screen.
Now it wont boot at all. when turning it on the center green light turns on but no controller lights blink at all and nothign appears on the screen...not even getting RROD now.

The xbox has been working great since i got it, just find it funny that mines dead after around 8-9 months after purchasing it, which ive seen that approximate time frame for many other users before getting the red rings.

One other thing is that i noticed that GTA4 really made my xbox work. when playing that game my xbox always made lous noises when spinning the disk. anyone else had that problem?

What is your point? Your 360 died so what.

On the GTA 4 thing though, of course it makes your console work harder. It has to have the entire city loaded at one time along with all the cars and pedestrians walking around. While you are driving in bohan, there are cars and pedestrians in alderney. There are things happening all over the city all at once. While you are driving around there may be a big car pile up on the other side of the city. That is why your system works so hard while playing GTA4.

Actually, GTA4 only loads the part of the city you are in. Areas that our well outside your range of vision simly don't exist as far as the 360 is concerned. Basic city design is always loaded (that is why you can see far away buildings), but real detail, good textures and people and cars only load once you get near them

On another note, my 360 died today after 2 months. Spoke to shop today and they are going to swap it over... if the ps3 wasn't so bad i'd switch, but this gen ill have to put up with dodgy hardware for the sake of good games.,

Oh I thought that is how it worked in this game as to not have any load times.

The game is streamed from the disc much like Gears of War.

unfortunately hardware isnt powerful enough to keep a whole city full off detail and cars and pedestrains loaded at all times. its also why when ur up in a helicopter the "car lights" that u see on the streets aren't really from cars. if you get closer cars appear in different places other than where those bright lights were.

and also, my 360 died sunday as well, for the 4th time now....and the PS3 isnt SOO BAD...it has a good library and i havent had any problems with mine. of course this wont make u change ur mind, but both consoles are worth owning...PS3 u could probably wait till this summer/fall when more big games are out.
