So, I'm deployed overseas and I've been on xbox live since FEB 2006 supported microsoft since. I have like 20,000+ gamerscore from playing games since on xbox 360. Granted my internet is not fast enough while I'm deployed in a undisclosed location in Southeast Asia. So, I don't even play my xbox while I'm here. My xbox is in storage at home so how can I log into my xbox live? About a week ago after my 24/hr shift received e mails that my account had been changed to a Brazil Xbox Live account. Plus, 133 dollars in charges on my credit card linked to my xbox live. Somebody not only changed my account they bought 11,000 microsoft points on my credit card. Well, I called 18004myxbox to notify microsoft about it. I told the representative my situation they still asked for my xbox 360 serial number even though I told them my xbox is in storage. Well, needless to say I changed all my passwords online and microsoft said the investigation will take 22 days. Hopefully it gets fixed. I don't want to switch over to the other lame online service another game console. When microsoft is the cream of the crop. C'mon xbox live up the security.

same happened to me about a month ago. some jerk from japan hacked my account and purchased 130 bucvks of MS points. seriously people have nothing better to do than hack xbox accounts? dumb kid didnt get anything out of it... not only did i get reimbursed the money. i keep the leftover MS points amd technically own the games he downloaded under my account... still its the principal of the thing.

yeah most people know these things and dont do them and some still end up being hacked. Believe it or not people can be hacked without having to fall for some scheme or by giving out their info.

That really only happens if you click on a link you do know know of really and BAM! all over from there.

not true it isnt always user error and listen to the TCs story it sound like he hasnt touched his xbox in awhile let alone been giving out his info while hes deployed somewhere.

MS security is generally top notch. If you got hacked it is either due to a keylogger or phishing site getting your windows live ID, or someone has taken a wild stab at your password and got lucky. Good luck, I hope everything gets sorted out for you TC.

*****UPDATE***** 02NOV2011 I've reported the problem to microsoft around Aug30th. Well, after having my family get my xbox out of storage and they got me my info like console id and serial number. Now, it's Nov and the issue is still not fixed. I've filled another compliant they started another investigation. This is getting to be a real hassle. I never gave my password out or my info to anyone. I think because I like a lot of stuff thats xbox related on facebook thats how someone took a stab at my account. Still, this issue is taking longer than I thought it would take to get fixed. Hopefully, it gets fixed by the time I get back because I have a lot of pre orders going to my house. Like GOW3, Halo anniversary edition, MW3, WWE12, and BF3. My account is still f&*(ed up. If this don't get fixed by JAN2012 I might be pawning all my xbox 360 stuff 4 controllers, 100+games, and everything I've purchased since 2006. I'm going to switch back over to Playstation if this issue don't get fixed. This is the worst thing that could happen to a paying customer since Jan2006. Back when I had an xbox 360 and I had all them problems with it I just mailed it in and got another one. Really, I've never had any problems with xbox live support up until now this is outrageous.

If you hand over your user name/password etc that isn't really being hacked.

More being a clown than anything else.

Key thing is "I never handed anything out". My xbox is in storage while I'm deployied right now. I haven't used my xbox live since I went on leave in May.

Sorry mate, I wasn't referring to you or your case specifically.

I was more referencing those people who willingly and ignorantly hand over their details and then claim that they've been hacked.

It's all good I'm just really frustrated. I'm overseas defending our country and I've been a xbox live gold member since FEB 2006. Just really mad I have a lot of stuff linked to my xbox account. ZUNE, Games for windows live, and windows online account. So, everything is screwed till it gets fixed.

I'm right there with you friend. I don't think a lot of these people here are understanding you. The same thing happened to me today. I was reading my mail tonight after getting home from work and I noticed 2 e-mails from Microsoft Xbox live.

First said :Acct switch confirmation...This mail is confirmation that you successfully switched your XBOX Live account from United States to Russia .

Second said : Purchase confirmation for Xbox Live 6000 MS Points bundle...... This mail is confirmation that you successfully purchased Xbox Live 6000 Microsoft Points bundle on Tuesday, November 01, 2011. Please retain a copy of this for your records. Here is a description of your purchase:

6000 Microsoft Points will be deposited into the account associated with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. Use Microsoft Points to acquire game add-ons, Arcade games, HD Movies and TV episodes, Avatar items, and more from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. Your account will be charged $74.99 plus applicable taxes. For information about changing or canceling your membership and your membership refund policy.

Now I do have an acct, but I never use it...I don't even own a 360. I have a 1st gen Xbox which I haven't used in years and did register for Games for Windows live to install DoW II some time ago. But I have never used this account for anything. I tried to access my account to cancel all billing info and it came up in Russian.

Called MS and went through the run of call transfers and finally got someone to take all the info down on what happened. They confirmed that GAMES WERE PURCHASED WITH THE 6000 POINT THAT WAS CHARGED AGAINST MY cc. They also told me they will start an investigation and get back to me along with freezing my account. I now have to call my CC co.and bank to report this and will also make a call to the local police. They may be able to look into this as credit card fraud.

MS gave me a reference number for this case, but when I told them I also wanted to cancel this account they gave me a laundry list of hoopsI need to jump through to get this done. I also agree with you that this is totally outrageous !

You know the absolute best thing you can do? When you send your repair/customer service requests through, be as calm and articulate as possible. Express disapointment as opposed to anger and if you're greated with any form of 'unfortunately, our hands are tied...there is not much I can do... type rubbish,' then you should respond by letting them know that you'll be contacting all of your local and national media outlets with the story about how a big corporation like Microsoft has very little empathy for a man who is currently risking his life for his country...

I've worked for 3 large companies in the field of Public Relations and the threat of negative publicity in that regard can move mountains...I've seen it happen ;)

Best of luck and thank you for your service.

Yeah this a growing problem. At first I thought it was user error, clicking in free points links or other schemes. I'm now realizing it's a legit issue and not user error. I've had 3 friends who've had accounts compromised for ms points in fifa. The annoying thing is you could be off xbox live for 30 days while its investigaged (2 of my friends had this maximum). Pretty much accounts with high gamer scores are being targeted (my friends all had 20,000 and up). And for my friends, they all know about phishing and schemes to stay away from. Finally, you won't be happy when this problem get's bigger and find yourself locked from your account for up to 30 days.

I just found out my credit card is going to charge me for the 133 dollars I didn't spend due in dec. I'm going to have to call them again and give them my new reference number. I called xbox live a day ago and they said it should be fixed by thanksgiving. This is outrageous, I filed 30AUG2011 it's now 4NOV2011 and I had to file another compliant becuase they closed the first one. Hope this gets resolved. Been a xbox live member since FEB2006. Would really hate to sell all my xbox stuff and go back to sony.

Same thing here a few days ago . Was actually online at time, got logged out, tried to log back in and couldnt . Recovered gamertag to console and found some achievements on fifa 12 ( which i dont own ) and 6000 points bought. Contacted microsoft twice ,first guy was an idiot reading out company spiel and playing it by the book, said investigation would take 25 days. He apologised about the problem but sounded like he couldnt care less. Second guy sort of let on that this happens a lot with both fifa 11 and 12 and that its related to the EA servers and accounts being less secure than microsofts. Apparently a lot of people use similar usernames and passwords when using the EA servers and this makes it easier to hack. Told roughly 21 days for account to be back up and refund about 5 days later. Will never put bank details online again, vouchers for me from now on.

Why should I have to explian to my credit card company that I didn't purchase those points. Microsoft should be explaining themselves. They should be talking to my credit card company explaining why they are worthless at keeping their online service secure. Google xbox live accounts hacked.

******Update****** Called Xbox live just recently and they told me they e mailed me free 1 month of gold membership. Sad thing is they e mailed it to the wrong e mail address. The issue is still not fixed they told me to check in with them 16DEC2011. This issue has been going on since August. Lord help the manager in Richmond, WA when my account isn't fixed by Jan2012 I'll drive down there and speak to a manager in person face to face. None of this hiding behind the telephone or e mails. Not to mention my account was switched over to Brazil. Just imagine the people whose accounts were transferred to Russia and Czech Republic. Theirs is going to take longer to fix. Because, of international laws and restrictions.

It is ridiculously hard to hack an account without access info. At some point, wether you know it or not, your details became available. It cold have been spyware, inputting info onto an unprotected computer, a bad link, a phishing site, using a bad or easy info combination thats easier to guess, giving the info to a family member or friend who then did any of the above.... It happens to the best of the best. My brother is a mega PC-head and still got his WoW account hacked and deleted. To be fair though, this stuff isn't new, and M$ should have a tighter grip and faster response over these situations.
