Blu-ray holds 50 GB.. That proves he was lying to you or misinformed.. As for Microsoft creating a new disc i am unaware of this.
Umm....BD movies commonly come on 50GB discs....and apparently Pioneer has created a 500GB BD disc that can be read on all BD players....my friend told me microsoft was mkaing a new disc able to hold a lot of data, it was like twice as much as a blue ray, can anyone confirm this?

Its possible maybe, but nothing that the disk drive in the xbox 360 could read, Ive heard of Red Ray disks, which are apparently superior to Blue Ray.l0veThat makes no sense. The advantage of blu-ray is that a blue laser has a shorter wavelength than a red laser, allowing more information to be stored on a disc.

blu-ray can hold 60gigs on one side and when they start doing double layer it will be 120 gigs. So if anything microsoft would be adding blu-ray to their next system.[QUOTE="Riku09990"]my friend told me microsoft was mkaing a new disc able to hold a lot of data, it was like twice as much as a blue ray, can anyone confirm this?

Wrong, the maxium of a blu-ray is 50, and that is with dual layer included.

So true.
If anything, microsoft would have its next console come witha dvd drive but, most of its games would be digital distributed. now, their is a company that says they have been testing their 20-30gb disks on red lasers and have come to a conclusion that it works.I had a link to it before now I have to dig down deep 2 yrs of forums and threadsto find it.
GE managed to squeeze 500 gb down on a DVD with holographic tech

Yes I see that on many internet site...Can this new DVD can be read from today DVD player...if the answer is yes this is going to be the death for blue ray discI don't think if made, the 360 will be able to read it. I just think the next Xbox should come with a blu ray player, next gen will need more storage and it will be the movie form of choice (its already mine).

i think this is it
Yes that was the recent article that got people talking. New ways of putting massive amount of data onto a disc, but just because it looks similar to a DVD doesn't mean that it is one, in the same way that a CD isn't a DVD.
Anyway all this speculation about new capacity discs is irrelevant for this generation of consoles. This really is technology still in development, and it will be many years before they get the cost of it down to a level where it can be easily incorporated into a console without giving it a massive price tag. The 360 has DVDs, the PS3 has Blu-ray, and that is what they will have until they get replaced by the next generation of consoles in several years time.

He obviously failed science class because blue is shorter than red. Maybe one day we'll have gamma ray disks and anyone who tampers with their machine turns into the Hulk.
Microsoft doesn't care about discs. They know that the future is in digital distribution, as the popularity of iphone apps, itunes, xbla, wiiware, playstation store, and xbox originals has proved. Now Microsoft is releasing 360 games on xbox live for download.
