This is unbareable, I can't even play on NZ servers now. It's too laggy.
This might make me sound incredibly geeky but I don't care, this ****ed up internet is making me depressed, seriously.

I felt the same way when I was with Xtra...moved to World Exchange's Xnet fullspeed download and upload and it's much better...still crap though.

you got your router configured right and the ports opened for XBL? I get around 400kb whilst using XBL (My router shows what each connection is using visually on it). You should also get onto support and ask them if they are blocking or limiting your connection for it because xtra, slingshot and ihug all cap XBL. So far x-net service is the best i've tried.

Hell yeah Xtra sux ass.. XBL runs like dial up, even when i plug it straight to the modem these bastards block every port and choke the flow both ways .. switching to Telstra Clear this week .. never heard of x-net.. what kind of speeds are you getting(edit: overall)? If telstra's connection is much better then I'll renew my Gold, right now i've just got a few weekend passes for when the Halo 3 beta is released .. .

Just ran a speed test at http://www.speedtest.net/ on the Auckland server (am in Chch):

(Upload is normally slighter higher than that)

I highly suggest Xnet...No contract..no disconnection fee..And you only pay for what you use ($1 per gb) The plan I'm on (FS/FS) is $49.99 then $1 per GB...And I use roughly 10gb per month so it works out to be around $60 (Depending on how much I use) Plus their customer service is good.

Telstra are about as bad as xtra, your better off finding someone else unless your going on there cable plan which is pretty average in itself to say the least when compared to cable i've used.

thanks for the info I'm emailing telstra tonight to cancel the order.. they haven't transfered it yet.. anyways the reason i chose them was if you check the NZ ISP test on speednet they average 3MB/s Download and 2MB/s upload so i figured it would be good for live..

You get 5down and 2up minimium with x-net, thats how good they are like wolf has stated, heck most times i'm sitting on around 8down and 3-4up. X-net is the best in nz at this time cause they have put the infrastructure for there networks in place properly.

Its pretty good whislt i'm playin in new zealand but outside the country it gets worse the further you go, australia matches are around 60-100ping id say and british matchs are 100-300ping and USA/JAPAN seems to range between 200-500ping.

I never host matches myself even though i'm more then capable of doing so but playing live in new zealand is good because you get no lag but downloads since they come from USA servers get quite annoyingly slow.

I play crackdown co-op quite abit with a friend i've made at the local gamestore, his upload is alot stabler then mine cause hes literally 40metres from the exchange but we get bugger all lag and he normally hosts matches for geows and PDZ which gets alot of peeps joining from NZ with bugger all lag.

I recommend going to the nz xbox forums and put the majority of the list on your live, because you will see tons of peeps playing that you'll get good pings too and you'll get asked to play games alot more then your use to.

thanks, will do.. the most crappiest thing just happened which just goes to show how crappy xtra and NZ live service is .. the forza 2 demo which i started downloading over 24 hours ago.. stopped at 98% for absolutely no reason and it is nowhere to be found.. the whole reason i am up at 1:30 in the morning is sitting at 1% again taunting me ....;( damn you telcom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not exactly, if you intend on downloading more then 5 Gigs you gotta get the $80 plan (90 if you don't use them for toll calling) with iHug which caps out at 20Gigs

with xnet you pay $50 (7mbv 512k^) plus $1 per GB which works out to $70 for 20GB and you don't have to use their phone service ... and if you use less then 20 GB you pay less.... sounds like a better deal to me.. unless of course you just use the internet to check your email .. then yes, iHug is a better deal.

nah dude, that's ihugs equivilant of go large.. they cap your speeds if you use too much (i think it's like 300MB in 3 days) not good for gaming or p2p

edit:

So how does it work?
Our fair use policy simply works by slowing customers down who use an excessive amount of bandwidth over the previous 3 days. The more bandwidth that is used then the more we'll slow you down. Most customers will not be affected by this as the fair use policy only kicks in if you use more than an average of 500MB per day over 3 days.

Gaming doesnt need high bandwidth and Ihug like all major ISPs uses traffic shaping on p2p connections, so no plan is.
