[QUOTE="moose_knuckler"]I'm sure all retail stores are all selling 360's with jasper chips in them.BoozDigiIs jasper the newest versions?? when does, or did, the newest versions come out? yes, jasper is the newest model. i think it came out towards the end of the year of 08 (November or December). it should be reliable.
Best way of knowing you get the new model is getting the Resident Evil console. If you go to a shop you cant garantee a new model, but all resident evil consoles are the new model. Its a nice console, it is pretty much a red elite console with a red controller & red plug & charge kit with it. Best thing to do is trade in your old console against it which will save you money thats what I did for the Halo console when released.Irish_ReptileI actually dont own a 360 yet. I want to buy one, but wanna make sure im getting the newest version. I think amazon has them. When i choose the xbox 360 pro on amazon, there is a highlighted banner that says "newest verison"...hope im right.
The newer models have lower ratings on their power supplies - the original ones were 203w, whereas newer models are 175w and 150w. The other way of checking is to look at the manufacture date, which can be seen on the console through a hole in the box. If you order online there is no way to check this before you receive it. Online retailers should be stocking the newest ones, but if you are unlucky you could get a console that has been sat in a storeroom for a long time.Avenger1324
I got that 1 -bought my Elite 1 month ago-manufactured in November 2008 and is a falcon 175 watt!-not the new jasper-Theres no real way of telling from the carton or label on it-so it's a case of lucky dip.

Trouble is-I saw that one and couldn't imagine a red console in my living room when all my other gear is either black or silver.

Nope-Got mine 1 month ago and being an Elite I was hoping it was the newest version, but it's not-it's a 175watt Falcon-Still Good version though.

All it will do is take the Jasper's 2 65nm chips and combine them into a single platform... making only 1 more powerful heatsink necessary... which is supposed to reduce the noise caused by the fan going to full RPM because of heat... the only reason to wait for this would be if you don't like listening to the 360 fan... which is a bad reason to wait a year to buy a 360...

Yeah, but that is not an updated version... it is just a redone version of Falcon to be used in refurbished Xbox 360s...

I have actually heard rumors of making a smaller xbox 360 with this smaller chip combination. Its just rumors, but I think it would be cool to see a smaller xbox 360 kinda like the redesigned ps2. I think the xbox is big and bulky and heavy :\ but its not like i am moving it around too much.

They can't do that for one reason...
Heat... the PS2 could be made smaller because its cpu was clocked at 300mhz, and its gpu at 150mhz... it created almost no heat until under immense pressure, and even then barely any compared to modern consoles... so it needed no fans, only a thin heatsink... the 360 needs an immense cooling system because its cpu is clocked at 3200mhz and reaches peak usage for almost all games (100% usage)... which makes it extremely hot... and the gpu is 256-bit and only clocked at 500mhz core, since it is so weak, to push out the graphics the 360 is capable of, it is also at peak usage all the time (100% again) and therefore also produces immense heat... both need a heatsink to keep from burning, both need the fan system to pull all of that heated air away from the heatsinks... all of that wouldn't fit in a smaller 360... have you ever seen the inside of a 360... it is no wonder it overheats so easily... everything is packed in extremely tigh, almost all of the space insde of the shell is used for something... it has almost no air flow... how would they make that smaller?
