call me crazy but i think next gen is ruining SOME franchises.......does anyone else think that developers are trying to hard to implement great visuals instead of what we really care about. the gameplay! (examples, army of two, dark sector)

halo 1-2 were fantastic because they didnt have to worry bout living up to graphical hype. halo 3 in my opinion spent more time on graphics then getting out fun and enjoyable maps, new cool guns, etc. halo 2 was the greatest online game ive ever played. i played it for 2 years straight and id still be playing it if my 360 would let me.

well halo was about the graphics on the orig xbox, was the main game that pushed the system and showed what it can do, the graphics might be irrelevant today but back then they were impressive for xbox/ps2 days

Don't you mean "this gen." Anyways, I like the games much more now than I did the previous gen.

it was great when there was only xbox, ps2, gamcube. all that bungie did was add graphics and new maps.

yes i agree they worry to much about graphics of new games. they need to look at singlplayer wise. these games r getting shorter and shorter. i havn't played a game in a long time but some don't have good controls. there was no way to fix that.

The graphics in Halo 3 are awesome. Just compare Lockout to the new Blackout and you can see the attention to detail they put in Halo 3.

Yeah I kinda see what you mean. Graphics are being used more to push a game, it's like they feel that even if it sucks we'll stare at the TV in awe drooling over the textures and way that water splashes when shot. I feel that they are being ruined by the push on multiplayer more though. I only play single player and co-op campaigns. And they are suffering because no matter how bad of a SP mode it has as long as the MP is rock solid and cool then they have nothing to worry about (look at cod 4, r6v2, and halo 3). But this is what typically happens with sequels much like hollywood movies. They make a buck the first time around so why not make 2 bucks the next time around and so on?

If we stopped buying junk games as consumers, they'd stop making them. Speak with your wallet.

COD's singleplayer was amazing, don't knock it plz. I'd rather play that 3 times over then play once through a bad LONG game.

Bioshock is an amazing game. One of the few FPS games that has a solid single player campaign and no muliplayer.

The funny thing is I've been gold since launch and pay every month for something I don't use. I just called to cancel it last week and go back to silver but that's like pulling teeth. Matter of fact they just called me to "verify" my info so they can "escalate" it to microsoft's attention. What a pain.

But yeah, I loved Bioshock... A game with NO MULTIPLAYER!!! Not only were the graphics great but it had a great storyline as well!! I kinda wish that they would put out two types of games without having both because one tends to suffer. One version just MP, the other just SP. I'd get my money's worth that way.

I TOTALLY Agree. When you listen to game devs talk about their game their always going to say look at this games awesome graphics and revolutionary technology, AI, physics, etc. I could care less about all that crap because when I play a game I want story, the fun factor, uniqueness, replayability etc.

I can honestly say gaming back in the 90's -2000 was probably the prime time for the greatest games ever made don't get me wrong...

Today games take YEARS to develop because they just want to push games to the limits now days. I miss the days when there would be like 5 new releases every 1-2 months =[ ....

You are mistaken, look at the Wii, most games dont focus on graphics with the Wii. Now compare the games the Wii has to the ones that ps3 and xbox 360 have.

Yeah, the wii is full of crap games that dont focus on the visuals, so I doubt its the graphics that are the problem. To be honest I think this generation of gaming is a lot better than last gen, with games like COD4, Bioshock, Uncharted, MGS4, Halo 3 and NGII pushing the limits. Gaming has never been this big and its only getting better.

I think that there's an impressive improvement in graphics and that adds to the gameplay. Not all games are going to have the best gameplay no doubt, that's how it's always been.

I agree with you those are all great games, but IMO out of the past 3 generations, the ps-one / n64 had it down. I can't even begin to name all the wonderful games that came out during that time.

[QUOTE="nitroracer82"]Yeah I kinda see what you mean. They make a buck the first time around so why not make 2 bucks the next time around and so on?God_of_duty117

i know, their screwing over people that don't have live that's why i love bioshock more games need to take after it.

that's your opinion....i disagree....i love playing games on xbl....they aren't screwing anyway one...you are in the minority that don't have xbl

it doesn't matter that i'm in a minority i'm a gamer and all gamers are equel and theres plenty of people that don't xbl

get xbl or don't complain...online gaming is huge whether you like it or not

it's my right to complain just like it's your right to tell me to stop. I understand that online gaming is huge but just because I and anyone else who can't get it doesn't make mine and everyone else that doesn't have xbl opinion less important

i never said that you or anyone else that doesn't have xbl is less important

I don't feel graphics are the issue, I think it's more the fact that devs are focusing on too many aspects of games at one time.(ie:great single player and multi-player experiences) Unfortunately, some games lean more to one side than the other. Army of Two was pretty much made to be an online-co-op shooter and after playing through the single player campaign that's even more painfully obvious.

I play games like Oblivion, Bioshock and Mass Effect because these games focus more on game play and story. I feel online still has a long way to go before it truly becomes awesome. How fun would it be to play a game like Oblivion in co-op? Or just for the sake of taking on your friends, head to the arena for some one on one battles?

For me, co-op is more entertaining than head to head. I hope we'll get to see co-op done more in future games, especially games like the single player ones I mentioned.

Shrinekeeper

I agree with you those are all great games, but IMO out of the past 3 generations, the ps-one / n64 had it down. I can't even begin to name all the wonderful games that came out during that time.

well the reason why is because less games were coming out and the percentage was higher for good games nowadays more games are coming and the majority of them are bad. the same amount if not more good games are coming out compared to then, but the percentage of bad games coming out is much higher, the trick is to know what is good and what is bad

All true old school gamers like me know for a fact gaming today is a joke compared to what it used to be. All the ones who think its getting better are ones who are either just getting into gaming or are just little kids. However I do think gaming is headed in the right direction but it certainly isn't as great as it used to be. BUT as it seems here most people would rather see better graphics vs better gameplay and thats just pretty sad if you'd ask me...

Snes up to Xbox and PS2 were the greatest days in my gaming career.

Well i think they should focus on the graphics and sound of the game because those 2 things really do add a lot to the experience. Of course the gameplay is what is most important.

No one is telling them to take all there time and work only on graphics right? They should work on all of it.

Iv been gaming since the NES days and I think games have been getting better. I still go back and play my old school titles like Ocarina of time and FF7. The fact is that the idea of gaming today bieng a joke compared to to what is use to be is just your opinion, its not a fact, so dont state it like one. Iam a true old school gamer and in my OPINION gaming has been getting better.
