The Xbox 360 only does hd in widescreen format. If you have a 4:3 (standard) aspect ratio HDTV, well you're outta luck. Try checking your tv settings and see if there is a widescreen mode, then you will have black bars on the top and bottom of your screen, but at least it won't be a distorted image.
what exactly is it doing to make you think that it is not in true widescreen?T-AldousIt says its in widescreen mode but the actual display is a square and the whole tv isn't used. There are 2 black parts, one on the left and one on the right of the tv where nothing is displayed. It says its in widescreen mode but it is only displaying the center of the tv (as if it was a standard tv and not a widescreen).

if you have the yellow cord pluged in, that is your problem. take that one out, you only need the green, blue, red, and for sound you need the red and white one in.Plo_Koon_basic
^This. Also make sure the little switch on the cables is on HDTV.

The TV has a 16:9 ratio. The 360 never shows widescreen. Not on the dashboard or games. I have my ps3 hooked up using hdmi and that shows up in widescreen so I'm pretty sure I should be able to do the same thing with the 360 using component cables. If anyone has any other suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
