[QUOTE="MIB911"]its called the trophy system and you will only be able to check out peoples trophys by going into their HOME and wasting time... so yeah its a worthless innovation for the ps3i just read in the August '07 issue of GameInformer that the PS3 has games coming out THIS holiday that will have an achvment system like for 360. its in the loose talk section which only talks about gossip but still its worth a discussion.
i wish i had a link or some proof for u guys other than this magaizine i got in the mail but i couldnt find any...
its not going to be required that every PS3 game has achvments from now on but proof IS indeed out sayin games goming out THIS holiday for the PS3 will have achvments very similar to the ones for the 360. even the "achvment unlocked" icon is said to be showing up as well.

Way put down a system that sounds seemingly better than Achievements.
this isnt really 360 related but yes their coming to the ps3 . who cares 360 still has them too isnt that what mattersPacBoy23
Doesn't it piss you off a bit that Sony copies everyone?

Fratinside: Sony copies too much! they're taking away the biggest sales advantage that the Xbox ever had!
PacBoy23: multi-platform games are gonna be bought for the 360 9/10 times because of the achvment rewards u can earn. what do u mean who cares? any 360 fan would care! and IMHO this is more 360 related than PS3 related...
[QUOTE="MIB911"]! they're taking away the biggest sales advantage that the Xbox ever had!teebeenzBut that now makes MS want to push harder for something to fight against it. Thats how competition works. Sony works on things to fight their neat thing, MS does the same.
so because they stole our idea we steal one of theirs? NO! i understand how competition works and i understand that the companies are both trying to think up the best idea. well THIS was the big idea for M$ and Sony either never came up with theirs or it sucked... why do they hav to steal EVERYTHING?
[QUOTE="teebeenz"] Seeing as Homes been in dev for 3 years, probably not. Especially as Achievements isnt anything new... games have had that sort of thing since they first arrived. Just unlocks dude.NumenDivinum
Games have for years been allowing players to unlock things in games, I agree. But we didn't hear any mention of any similar system for PS3 until way after 360 had it. You could argue the trophy system, but that's not what the topic starter is talking about. He's talking about a system ridiculously similar to Xbox's.
That's like if tomorrow Xbox just decided to adopt some sort of motion sensor and made several claims that they borrowed none of it from Sony or Nintendo. Everyone could see through that.
Microsoft already had a motion sensing controller, it was basically a sixaxis for pc.
Oh well, at least we all know that the 360 is better in every way. We have the better games (Gears of War for example) and what the hell does the PS3 have some retarded game where you're a ninja and walk around killing stuff for no reason at all and on the commercial it states "The reason you bought a PS3 in the first place"
Microsoft makes their own games and most of them are good, and the reason they force some developers to put certain achievements and features in games is because they they want the gamers to enjoy the games and they have a certain requirement for all their games. Just look at games that are multi platform and are both for the 360 and PS3 etc The Bigs for example it got a better score than the PS3 and it's the same bloody game...so way?
THAT IS BECAUSE THE 360 IS BETTER!!! I hate Sony and I want them to burn....and don't say I don't know what I'm talking about as I owned both a PS1 and a PS2 (that's right I refused to waste money on the PS3 and I sad OWNED I gave away both for free) Just check which console sold more on both launch and in total sales (use wikipedia) the 360 WON and it's not because the PS3 was released after the 360 ( I don't know why it's almost the same crap as the PS2 withthe XMB bar from the PSP they couldn't even think of a new XMB for the PS3 copied it from the PSP and it hassome cheap blue ray feature just to get more sales)
I have owned a PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the only consoles I am unhappy with is the PS2 and PS1 I gave them away. I have considered getting the Wii as it is obviously better than the crap Sony is releasing. Plus the 360 has Fable 2 coming out and Halo 3 as well as Halo Wars!!!!!! Die PS3......
the 360 has better games and online multiplayer yes but they arent better in EVERY way... this is not meant to become a system wars thread.
i simply wanted to tell 360 fans that the achvment system WILL be goin to the PS3 on more than a couple games. this just so happens to be the biggest competitive edge that M$ has ever had. this is only benifiting Sony and that is the arguement. the only thing M$ will have left is the community and superiority of Xbox Live but Sony already has an online gaming feature and easily could modify (to copy) in future generations... we 360 fans need the achvment system to put our gameplay preferences ahead of competitors
If there is one thing one would expect Sony to get perfect, though, it would be music. Wrong. Sure, you can plug in your digital music player and the PS3 will play the tunes. But as soon as you go into a game, the music stops. By contrast, one of the things I've always enjoyed most on the Xbox 360 is being able to listen to my own music while playing Pebble Beach or driving my virtual Ferrari. Doesn't seem too complicated, but the PS3 can't do it.
In that sense it often feels as if the PlayStation 3 can't walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. In the PS3's online store (which feels like a slow Web page) you can access movie trailers and trial versions of new games, but when you actually download the 600-megabyte files, you'll be stuck watching a progress bar crawl across the screen for 20 or 40 minutes. Astonishingly, you can't download in the background while you go do something that's more fun (like play a game). On the Xbox 360, not only are files downloaded seamlessly in the background, but you can also shut off the machine, turn it on later, and the download will resume automatically.
The PS3's whole online experience feels tacked-on and unpolished. On the Xbox 360 each user has a single unified friends list, so you can track your friends and communicate with them easily, no matter what game you are in. On the PlayStation 3 most games have their own separate friends list and some have no friends function at all. There is a master list as well, but in order to communicate with anyone on it, you have to quit the game you are playing.
Think about this and than decide which is the "Ultimate Entertainment Console"
I feel sorry for PS3 diehards, but not so very sorry. Actually, I wish there were a way to get them onto XBox Live, just so I could have the pleasure of fragging the lamers.
3 very good points there but they ALL belong in system wars... i understand ur tryin to make good points here but ur forgetting the topic. Sony steals ideas for business (with heavy focus on the newly aquired achvment system)...
it has been confirmed unfortunately. it wont be for every PS3 game and its unclear as to how many pts are given (i would be surprised if it was 1000 per game). there will still be the little "accomplishment" unlocked pop up but thats about all anyone at GI magazine knows so far.
