Hi, I was doing a quest for the fighters guild called Harlum's watch. I did the quest and everything, killed all the trolls and found the dead bodies, but my journal won't update. The last update that I recieved was "i killed all the trolls... look for evidence that these creatures killed them" or something like that. Is there something I'm missing? I can't find it anywhere on the net. BTW, I'm using the original oblivion without any updates.
Wow, the same thing happened to me. I've tried a lot of things and couldn't get it to work. I carried on with other quests and even finished the story and went back and still couldn't get it to update. I believe that i cleared that cave before i actually was given the quest. Maybe thats where the problem came from. I hope somebody has a fix.
Next, Burz sends you to a small settlement called Harlun's watch. Travel due south untill you reach this and speak to Drarana Thelis.
She'll tell you a story about a lost party, and you're the one to find the lost party again. Travel to the southeast into the swamps, and then into the swampy cave there.
Inside you'll find a number of trolls to kill, and the body of Eduard Denile. After you find it, your journal get's updated and you're instructed to kill all the trolls in there.
Do so and return to Burz for a promotion to champion.
I think you have to actually read his journal too, don't you? All I know is that it worked for me, and I DID read the journal. Plus, don't you have to find all the other people that were killed in there too? Or am I thinking of a different quest?
I'm screwed I guess since I don't have a previous saved game to load. The odd thing is that this is my first time inside that particular dungeon. I didn't clear it out before I got the quest.
The quest is glitched probably because you were in the cave before. Not even an update can fix that, because the update only works if it is applied before the glitch happens (for that save game). So you would have to reload a save from before you entered the cave or start over.
It happended to me too, and updating didn't fix it.
Good news is, not completing that quest does not prevent you from finishing the fighters guild quest line. It does however prevent you from getting anymore "jobs" and therefore the last advancement (and achievement) of the fighters guild quest line before the finale (Talk to the dark elf Modryn Oreyn in Chorrol)
