my only complaints are the lack of matchmaking on firefight and that on some sectinos of the game its incredibly hard.
It's a good game with more emphasis on the characters; which I like. My main problem is that the city doesn't feel "lived-in." Sure, they added trash and some abandoned vehicles, but none of them even had the door open to make it seem as if they really abanodoned it. (Who would take the time to close the door when they need to immediately leave the vehicle?) The cars all looked too similar. If I were the supervisor of level design/environment artist, I would have put more emphasis on more human objects, such as: toilets, conveniant stores, a large shopping mall, and maybe a lot more advertising on buildings and windows. Also, for a city that has left in panic, they left the place fairly clean; where are all the dead citizins, and various objects that were left behind? I just wasn't convinced that New Mombasa was a city that people lived in.
Did not enjoy I found Halo 3 much more exciting and fun overall walking around in the streets of Mombsa was pretty boring nhlkillerThis right here, all these comments about the streets being boring... Halo fans obviously can't appreciate an amazing atmosphere over balls-to-the-wall action.
EDIT: The music is EASILY the best of the series, and the ability to just kind of walk around and see the sights, at night is amazing. Oh, and the story from the vid logs was my favorite part of ODST.
I really liked playing as the Rookie on the streets of New Mombasa. It had a good detective, film-noir (Blade Runner) feel to it. The flashbacks, however, were more of what you expect out of a halo game, but in smaller doses and the story was somewhat embarrassing at times.

I agree, the great environment is what made me like ODST more than the other Halos. It should've been a whole lot more intimidating and realistic (like Half-Life 2), but I found the streets of New Mombasa to be an excellent addition to the campaign. I lol at the hardcore Halo fan comments about the streets being boring.

That does seem to be the case. ODST is a far more methodical game and those nighttime sections are more reminiscent of BioShock or Metroid with you exploring for Audio Logs, being outgunned at every turn and so on. I loved the night sections and I love how they handle them. It's very good, and the story-telling method is so unique and innovative.
I'm noticing that most of the posters just want more action and while I'm fine with receiving action I am more than pleased with how ODST turned out.

the music you hear at the start prologue (when you are given a run down of whats happening) is actually from the escape sequence of shawshank redemptionIt was Better than Halo 3's campaign, but it still sucked.
The Nighttime levels were the best to me, but everthing else was exactly like Halo 3 Kinda felt like an expansion of some kind.hmmmmmmmmmm.
I really enjoyed ODST. It was much more atmospheric than Halo 3's campaign and there were more climactic moments. Soundtrack was superb. It really gives you that sense of being stranded alone in New Mombasa.
Though, it was overpriced.
I think that ODST has a better campaign than Halo 3.I I melted in front of the screen playing Halo 3 multiplayer ,but I was not impressed by its single player!!
But ODST's campaign was such an atmospheric and melancholic experience that I will never forget!!
Everyone vote ODST for having the best soundtrack of the year!!!!!!!!!!!
I wrote a review on ODST, which was half-way decent, basically saying that ODST was good, but not quite there . . . the music, gameplay machanics, firefight, etc, were all fine, yet at the same time, it felt as if somehting was missing . . . like Bungie could have done a lot more with this game, had they waited for a later date to realease it . . . they had 14 months, a decent sized team, and a story, all of which they tried to cram together as smoothly as they could . . . thus, the game turned out decent, but the campaign was there, then it was gone . . . and firefight gets more boring than it does fun (all of this is my opinion) . . . I guess what I am trying to say is that ODST is the WORST Halo game made thus far . . . I played Halo 1, loved it; Halo 2, loved matchmaking; Halo 3, put the icing on the cake and had great features . . . ODST, fun for a little while, then gone . . . I gave it a 9 out of 10 on the basis of the story and campaign alone . . . every other Halo game has a 10 out of 10 according to me, so you can see how ODST let me down very much . . . once again, Bungie should have done this game later, or not have done it all . . . the only option I can see is that they could have made a 3-5 hour campaign and really focus on the story . . . then sell it as a download on Xbox Live . . .
ODST = letdown, although I did enjoy it for a while.
Quite honestly, I was desperate for a new game, so I just had to buy ODST. To me, it was all I wanted. I knew the campaign would be short, and it was nice not to be to inhumanely powerful for a change. I found the campaign actually created an interesting atmosphere, both when you explored Mombasa Streets and played the flashbacks. I just missed some of those epic large scale battles Master Chief had a chance to take part in.
Firefight is fun, but I can't seem to find a game that doesn't lag. I really liked how they bundled all of the multiplayer maps into one and separated them into two disks. Much more convenient if my cheap friends want to borrow it.
