Yes you can turn your offline profile into an online profile. When you are signed in there should be an option somewhere to "Join Xbox Live" (sorry it's been a while I don't really remember).
And you can have as many Xbox Live profiles as you want, but if you want to be able to play online with them you have to pay for separate subscriptions.
I think Goldeneye is wrong. He is in my case anyway, originally I played 360 offline and racked up 6000 odd gamer points on my offline gamertag and I could only create a new account for online play.
I think you can, but you might have to link it to an existing hotmail address or something. I kept my offline account and made it online, so it can be done, i just remember it being quite a hassle.
Are you sure? I couldn't do it with mine. My offline account was simply called "Michael" and I could not get it online no matter what I tried. So how did you do it?
You can get an offline account online. I still have the achievements for Prey, which I sold before I got XBL. The only thing is you'll be asked to give your profile another name if you go online. You may still be able to use the same name, but if someone else has taken it, then you have to choose another one.
