You'll know in the first 5 minutes if you like it or not, I thought the control system was awful and ruined what could've been a good gamevitriolboy
I didn't start liking the game until after about 3 matches of the demo. The game controls quite well imho. But then again you could consider me a pro by now. Second fave game on the 360.

The controls and gameplay have a steep learning curve, its not simple run and gun its advanced run and gun. The single player may be underpar but the multiplayer is worth more the gears of war imo for the share size and scale of battles are awesome fun and theres no glitchers or cheaters.Â
I own the metal cased CE and I even got the mech action figure, had it preordered for months, and while I'm not pissed off I bought the game, I cannot honestly recommend it. I care a lot more about single player than I do multiplayer, and the game is a let down, the story flat out sucks, and it just goes into total nonsense after a while.
You can beat the game on the normal setting, in less than 8 hours. The levels are horribly inconsistent, Some of them are brilliant, they look gorgeous, thier well planned out, well paced, and you can spend the better part of an hour or more getting through it, and you think it's great, and then you get to the next level, and it's short, crappy, drab, and either really boring, or hectic as hell for 4 minutes and it's another boss and your through it. The gameplay variety is horribly balanced too, early on, you get a great mix of mostly being on foot, but getting to play around with the mechs, but later on, it basically becomes a mech game, your just in a damned mech constantly, and you need to be to get through the level.Â
I actually liked the controls, but many did find them awkward. The thing I really hated with a passion, was the Thermal Energy collection, it boils down to being an effective timer for each level, it kills your ability to explore a level in great detail, and it kills the ability to mix it up, you cannot always play the game the way you want to play it, you might run into a situation where you would want to take an enemy on foot, just for something different, but you cannot, because you will either take too much energy to renew your health, and then die, or it will take you too long to move on foot, and your energy will run too low and you will die. everything is fine if you play it the way they designed it, but it could have been a lot more fun if they simply gave you a replenishing shield or something rather than this damned constantly ticking T-ENG gauge.Â
It's fun to screw around with for an afternoon or maybe a weekend, but don't waste 60 bucks on it.Â
