Elderscrolls by a long shot!

I loved both, but I spent 3x the amount of time in Oblivion (150 hours) and I still hadn't gone into any caves or dungeons or ruins that the game doesnt force you to go into.

Ultimately, I feel it boils down to personal opinion. If your more of a sci-fi, fps, gun nut type of person, Fallout's for you. If you're more into the the fantasy, melee combat, and albeit deeper experience that The Elder Scrolls series offers, then that's your baby. Both are AMAZING games that have eaten up entirely too much of my life :D , but I gotta go with Fallout on this once. I've spent alot of time in Washington D.C. and seeing it in ruins the way that Fallout showed it...there's something very chilling, and very cool about it. Creepy thing is, while Bethesda took many liberties with the city's layout, certain areas (like the National Mall) are spot on. It may not be as deep or engrossing as The Elder Scrolls series, but hopefully the DLC can make it a little more worthwhile (despite the added price tag- but hey, at least it's not horse armor..which I bought  ).

Plus my little sister used to be one of those Sims only types of gamers, but after playing Fallout 3 for an hour, she was begging me to buy her a 360 so she could play it herself. Since I bought her it in January, and by Feb she had beaten all the quests, and the game...Twice :P

Can't wait for the next Elder Scrolls game, though. My only hope is that there's some really in-depth weapon selection/customization, and some sort of online component. That world is just begging for some co-op or competitive fun!

.

WOW you bought your lil sis a 360. That's a lot of money.

ES5. Oblivion was so good, and I thought much better than Fallout.

IMO, Elder Scrolls V wins this debate 10 times out of 10. I'm on my 6th replay on FO3 so that should tell you how much I love it, but Oblivion was just way more complex, deeper and took character creation to a new level. In fallout, no matter what build you end up designing your character on, things have a way of evening out as you increase levels, but in Oblivion, playing the game with saya mage build really effects your gaming experience than if you go with a warrior build.

Sadly though, with the amount time and money needed for development of either game I don't think we will see FO4 or Elder Scrolls 5 until the next gen consoles come out.

elder scrolls for me. fallout was too depressing although the voice acting was more diverse. i just wish the designers did better motion capture for both these games. most characters look like puppets compared to other nextgen titles.

i would like to see ES5 for all kinds of reasons.

1:More diverse

2:brighter, more cheerful

3:i would like there to be more guilds, such as: instead of the mages guild, be a necromancer (or have it allowed on here), or be able to be a guard, bounty hunter, or other interesting jobs.

4: i would like there to be better achievements, maybe some for mastering skills, or finding hidden stuff, or something.

5: it would be fun to play online. i'm not expecting MMO, but maye some co-op (NOT like Fable 2, god that was the worst co-op ever)

I believe Elder Scrolls V will come out on the 360. Bethesda has probably been working on ES5 for a while now. They started work on F03 in 2004, two years before Oblivion came out.

Money prob isnt a huge factor for Bethesda and it will be more expensive to develop for the next gen Xbox than the 360.

If Bethesda continues their Elder Scrolls tradition that they started on the original xbox, then the next elder scrolls game will probably appear very early in the next xbox's lifespan.

I have to agree with you here, there was so much detail afforded to the gameplay, graphics, sound and stories in these games that the animations must've just kinda fallen by the wayside. I'd like to see some better animations, especially with regards to the melee combat...it's hard to imagine the Elder Scrolls being more badass, but with some better animations and maybe some more attack variety...

I wouldn't call 2 games a cycle or tradition.

well, it seems bethesda is hoping for a 2010 release of ES5......let's hope they stay the course! http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/10/bethesda-wants.html I for one can't wait. Even if it has the same general feel of Oblivion, you have to think that with sharper graphics, a smoother gameplay engine and overall advanced playability, ES5 will at the very least look and feel 10x better and to me, Oblivion was such a winning formula that adding some modern fix-ups here and there would suit me just fine.
