With Peter Moore recently leaving Xbox to go head EA Sports, and Microsoft just loosing BioWare to EA, could Microsoft try to buy EA in the very near future?

We all know EA is worth tons and tons of money, but Microsoft has the financial means to do it (Bill Gates is the richest person in the world, after all). And many of you alreadey know that Microsoft just lost Bungie as a first-party developer, so Microsoft may be looking for a huge first-party developer.

Signs point to yes, and if so, this would be a one-hit K.O. to the Wii (most of their games are from EA), and an almost fatal strike to Sony (who would they have left?)

So what do you think?

You need another part to your poll. My answer is no, but I do think that Microsoft does have enough money too if Bill Gates really wanted it and EA was selling. But I doubt that Microsoft is planning to buy EA, that is a hugh companyand I would be suprised if they did. Unless Bill Gates just really wanted to mess with people and buy himself a little christmas present. Which is unlikely.

Possible. EA is making loads of money, giving me the suspicion that M$ could buy EA and share their money.

However, with the large dose of monkey that EA has in their pocket, EA wouldn't want to be bought and be commanded by M$.

You need to put another answer in Poll "No because EA can't even score a game over 9.0" :P BTW they finally did with Orange Box  that took them couple of years.

No, but its not impossible that thay would like to try. It would make the 360 and PC one hell of a gaming platform :)
But no, i doubt MS would do it. They have a very good thing in Microsoft Game Studio. So i doubt they would make that bad buy getting alot of games. Since gamers do prefer good games before alot of them

While M$ does have the money to buy them, I doubt that they would want to spent that kind of money, after all they are probably worth a couple of billions dollars. I say NO, not even in the near future.

No, if EA wanted to, they could make their own consoles and monopolize the gaming industry.

yeah right, making games is one thing consoles is another, if ea brought out a console and stoped putting they games out on other platforms they probs still flop they console like , takes years and years usually to make a profit out a new console and getting it to take offcosts millions at least. any amounts of systems come and go but ya usually only have 2 maybe 3 max of each generation that were upto the job

Also big issue here. Stop saying bloody Bill Gates he is no longer head of the company. Infact all his main concerns in life now are his foundation he has for helping out chairties.

You people sound like a broken record Bill Gates this Bill Gates that. Serouisly people do your bloody homework when you speak about a company and think you know all.

the reason microsoft made the Xbox was because they wanted a share of the multi billion dollar game industry and now that they have a huge portion of the console market it wouldn't supprise me if they tried to take a huge portion of the game production market and rather then make their own to compete with everyone else it would make alot more sense to just buy your way in and EA is the biggest. it will cost alot of money but as a long term investment it could be a good deal for microsoft. they dont need to fork out the cash to buy all of EA, just 51% of it and then go from there.

No, and not because they "Don't have enough money." I wish people without any business knowledge (99% of the board) would stop asking business questions.

IF Microsoft bought EA, the would gain the probably exclusive rights to Medal Of Honor, NFS, and the football games. (NCAA and Madden). That is worth a billion $$$$, at least. They have the money, but they might wait a few years to see if EA falls or rises in popularity, because they need to make better MoH games. Airborne was fine, except it didnt have Local Play, which I was dissapointed about.

I didn't vote because there wasn't enough choices, but my answer is if M$ wanted EA they could have it, and no I do not think M$ will be buying EA anytime soon I do think its within the realm of possibility though.

Yes Bill is retiring next year, but that point is moot the fact is M$ is worth about 50 billion dollars which is about 25 times the amount that EA is worth so yes if M$ wanted EA they could have it but I don't think they do at this point.

I doubt it. So much money is in multiplatform gaming, I don't think it'd be a finacially benefical move for EA.

It would be a fantastic move by Microsoft. EA owns basically all the decent sport games, which brings in billions. I hope they do, but i can't see it happening any time soon.

if anything is going to happen it will be EA entering the Hardware biz.... with there own console....

Moore is no software guy he is Hardware and this is a move on EA to expand so that they will have a stong 1st party line up... no only this we will see EA take one more step in this direction when it buys ubisoft...

Then we will see the hardware side of things...

EA has enougn money and resources to do this ...

I am sure if MS really wanted to, they could buy a majority in EA stocks, thereby making them the "owner" of EA. However such an investment would take billions of dollars, like 10 billion to pull off. Also, even if they did that I am sure the majority of the executives and devs would leave because they would be all about making a lott of money(comming from EA's background) and making games on one console would not net nearly as much money as selling on a gillion consoles like EA does now. For that reason alone I dont think MS would buy EA

In reality, $50 billion is only Microsoft'sANNUAL revenue ($51 billion for 2007). The actual networth of the company is much, much higher than that (like $322 billion).

I couldn't find any numbers for EA's net worth, but annual revenue for 2006 was just under $3 billion.

MS could buy EA 50 times over, but why would anyone think that would be a good investment? They already overpaid for Rare ...

Microsoft may have the physical cash to be able to buy EA, but fiscally, it would be horribly irresponsible to do so at this point. Not to mention it would ensure that the DoJ and/or the trust-busting part of government would be seeing red flags all over the place if MS even motioned toward doing something like that.

EA is a publicly traded company. All Microsoft would have to do is make a good tender offer to the shareholders and there's little that EA's officers could do to stop them. That is unless EA has special safety measures built into their stock, which they probably do. All that would do though is increase the price that MS would have to pay.

If MS decides that they want EA they can buy them. But I don't think it will happen. It would cost about $5 billion, if not more. That's a hefty price to pay.

The problem with Rare is that a lot of important people left after the purchase I think.
