Same here! I bought a new 360 a week ago and was very pleased it wasn't as loud as the old one. But now my brick went wild and became about twice as loud as my old noisy 360 itself ever was. The fans in there sound like they're old, dirty and rusty. WTF?!?akayimaGood job with bringing an old topic back from the other side.
cause cause its a ridiculous problem! im not sure if its my problem or if its a normal
I have 2 different power supplies, one is from the older xbox which has a ground for the wall outlet, as well as a ground going into the power supply, the new one that came with the xbox doesnt.. could it possibly be that the new one makes the noise because of the lack of the ground? this is just knowledge im trying to pull from my knowing of guitars and how they make static hum if they arent grounded correctly
alot of electronic devices put out high frequency noises occasionally. you rarely notice it, but theres a light in my kitchen that does this all the time, as well as an older tv. i cant explain it, but it isn't just you.cause cause its a ridiculous problem! im not sure if its my problem or if its a normal

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead yet again, since it's the first link that pops up on Google when someone does a search for "xbox 360 power supply noise". The noise in the 360's power supply is actually a tiny little cooling fan. If you look closely at the supply, you'll notice it has cooling vents on both sides. While it's running, hold your hand by the vents and you'll feel air rushing into one side and out the other. It's a very small fan, so we're talking a small amount of air flow, but the fan sure makes a lot of noise.
This fan runs any time there is any power drawn from the power supply. After you turn off your 360, if you leave your controllers plugged in it will continue to charge those. That'll keep the power supply fan going. If you unplug your controllers, you'll notice the noise shuts off immediately. The little fan will also shut off automatically once the controllers are done charging.
