Okay I'm by no means slamming the Halo series here so don't call me a fanboy blah blah etc. I Just think that I'm missing something here.:)

Alright I'll start off by saying that I have completed both Halo 1 and 2 and have spent at least 20+ hours of online time. But I still wonder where the series had gathered its "Godly" status. What is so amazing about Halo? Yes I admit they are good games but what makes it so much better than games like Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, the Unreal series, Battlefield series and so-on. Halo 3 has been one of the most anticipated games of all time over the course of the past 2 years...but why? Am I missing something here? What does Halo have that other games don't? Thanks :D

It's fun.  When Halo came out on the xbox it was amazing, we're all sucked into the Halo universe.  It's just awesome.

it's the greatest game in it's genre. story is awesome, online multiplayer is awesome. awesome community online for the most part, graphics were excellent for xbox 1, replay value is amazing, overall fun.

Well I understand that its fun, but it lacks so many things that other amazing titles have...such as Half-life 2's amazing interactive storytelling for one example.

It's great story, music, weapons, it's set in a place with never-before seen creatures, the sweet secret ending, multiplayer, bringing new things that were never brought into a game before (Banshee, Ghost, satisfaction of beating it on the hardest difficulty, mission where you kill sleeping grunts, etc., etc.)

please tell me how the story telling in half life 2 is interactive....just caus your still playing the game while ppl are telling you stuff doesn't make it interactive, you can't change the events or anything at all.

cuz halo 1 brought things that werent yet seen or applied in a fun way in shooters before. things like the sticky gernades, melee, carrying only 2 weapons, recharging sheilds and mixed with the story, music, vehicles and of course the mastercheif, halo changed the way first person shooters were made.

just saying

I have to agree halo doesn't really have anything thats worth mentioning compared to the other games. The multiplayer is a really bad version of unreal tournament. The story doesn't compare to half the games out there. If you have ever played the BF:2 multiplayer halo's multiplayer is just boring. Sure its got the name and its made for the xbox and pc. That doesn't really make a diffrence. It is funny I read an article saying that they fluked on halo 2, there wasnt a good ending and there just wasnt enough. Well I didn't really see much in the original halo. From the halo 3 movies that I have seen, it looks like there isn't much more, maybe the war and the whole story might be intresting but it doesn't really live up to the preorders that it has.

well i have to say its amazing because the single player its cool!! but man the multiplayer its awsome!! anything can happen not like gears, no offense but everyone who say that gears its better its because they never played halo .thats it , the online of gears it was cool but got old because every game was the same, you down someone and kill him, or you tag someome or your chainsaw someone thats what the gear multi it about!!

but halo have , weapons, people playing(very important) , the matchmaking, the rankings , alot of different type of games, king of the hill, odd ball, flags etc...

soo thats why is awsome

The energy shields

I have played a lot of shooters, but one of the most key differences that Halo has are those shields. I played Socom and there were times when I would shoot half a clip into the back of one of my enemies only to have them turn around and kill me in a couple shots. This doesn't really happen in halo because its a lot more structured: four shots of a battle rifle to the head, three plasma rifle shots with roughly 20 smg shots (depending on how accurate you are of course), three punches with a normal weapon, these all kill people. It's the stability of knowing these things that allow people to dissect tactics and really develop skill for this game. The energy shields really add another level to gameplay; of course, there are a whole bunch of other reasons why this game is amazing, but I'm just too lazy to type it all out.

I'm going to have to agree with you man.  I find the shields really add a new element to the game.  In multiplayer, it allows you to keep going because after every battle it's a fresh start, you don't feel like you're slowly being worn down.

directed at the OP:  I think Halo recieves to much applause for it's story, it's not horrible by any means, but it is cliche-- aliens seek to wipe out humanity, one man army saves the day; the only twist is that they are religiously motivated.  I do think the covenant have a well developed culture, but that really requires reading the books to appreciate fully.  The thing is, no shooter has an above adverage story; please don't say HL2, the story in that game was a joke, if you think otherwise, you're a blind fanboy.  For as subpar as Halo2's ending was, HL2's was even worse... I almost laughed.  I remember finnishing the game and thinking "WTF, that's the end?".  It's ok though, because it's the shooter genre and nobody plays FPS's for their deep stories.  Thats akin to going to seeing an action flich and moaning about the plot.  You go to action movies to see people get shot/beat up etc. same thing for FPS's.

Halo is the best console shooter. Yeah, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, Unreal, and Battlefield are good games, but they are PC shooters and none have translated well to consoles. In fact, I cant think of another console FPS that can compete with Halo gameplay wise. There are a lot of great ones, Rainbow 6 is great, the 360 Call of Duty games are great, hell Perfect Dark Zero isnt nearly as bad as everyone would like to believe, but none of them in my opinion have the great gameplay Halo does. And at this point, when I play a FPS, I compare the gameplay to the gameplay in Halo.

have u played halo 1 online for 20+ hours?

if u played any decent ppl you'll know y.

also when this game first came out it was 20x better than other fps's.it had a rechargable shield which was unheard of back then so you wouldnt get stuck just because the next health pack is in the next two level.

overall it's not evolutionary but revolutionary, it does everything that's been done b4 10x better

Yes most of them are on the console or are coming to the console, anyway halo is on the pc so your point is pointless.

halo ce isn't comming out today,  it came out years ago.  and at the time it came out it's ai was the best.  the story was good,  graphics were good, etc.  .  go play halo1.  now go play the halflife 1,  the original.  see the difference?  halo was the goldeneye of it's day,  and in their day they were the best.  and being the best is what makes something special.  so think of the time it came out,  the hardware it ran on,  it didn't have a kb/m, etc...  thats why.

It was amazing shooter on an amazing console and it was really the best FPS that made sense on a console. It was the first FPS that felt like playing a PC shooter on a console and thats what got me in. The graphics and artstyle are great, and it is real fun to play. Oh and by the way was one of the first console shooters to only have about 10 guns or less and only let you carry 2 of them, all the other ones like goldeneye had 20+ weapons and let you carry them all. And the health with the recharge shield was new to me and alot of people. The characters are cool, get you emersed into the games world. And really Half life and HL2 and all thoses other games are hyped because of the graphics and technology alot of times. And have you watched any of the halo 3 beta footage, the graphics look nice and crisp and its just beta, The weapons look awesome and not plastic like in halo 1 and 2, and it just looks really fun. This is why people are getting hyped for halo3.

I love when people try to tell that Halo 2 online is is bad. You might think that it is bad but it obviously is not when it has been in the like top 3 most played game on live since it has come out.
