Question about scratched discs...

Can a badly scratched disc destroy your disc drive/laser? when my xbox is reading my scratched to death cod 4 disc it makes all kinds of strange noises like its going to shoot out of my disc drive its rather unpleasent to listen to.

My cod4 is scratched and when I put it in, it sounds like a motorcycle engine. To get rid of it, install CoD4. You can borrow it from a friend if it wont let you fully install it. Or just rent it from best buy and then swap the DVDs

Uh no I think that sound is just the laser shifting around alot cuz it cant read whats on the disc properly. I doubt it could damage the hardware. But take the disc to a games retailer that has a disc cleaning service and they'll fix it up for a small fee. Shouldn't be more than £2 or £3.

Not sure about that one?-But if your worried? Then it may be worth the couple of £s/$s taking it to your local Gamestation to have disc surface repaired in their disc repair machine.
