I don't own a 360 just yet, but I will in the near future. It's on my Christmas list, along with a lot of games to go with it. But, I want to be able to play Xbox live right out of the box, but I have no phone outlet or anything in the back of where it will go, with all my other gaming systems. I recently bought a wireless router, so I've got my Wii and laptop getting internet off that, so will my Xbox be able to get it through wi-fi as well? WITHOUT buying anything extra? Because I'd rather have more games then spend $100 for wi-fi adapter, on top of the what? $50 price of annual Xbox live?

I just want to spend as little money as possible to be able to get on xbox live.

Well you don't need a phone jack. But it comes with an ethernet cable and if your router is close enough you can just use that. If you need a longer one, just search like newegg.com and they have 200 foot cords for like $10. Oh and for Wi-fi, you do need an adapter and it's like 50 or 60 bucks for a year.

Well, they aren't too close together. They're in two seperate rooms. So, I guess I'll just have to fork out the extra cash. Which is cool, I guess. I'm just gonna be super short on cash after the holidays.

Any 360 games with great online play? (Besides the obvious Halo 3) Most games I'm looking forward to playing are focused more on single player.

i wouldn't use wi-fi. i would find some way of getting the router and the 360 wired up. wireless tends to be less reliable, and is slower than landline for a fact. For shooter games, (and pretty much any other game) you'll want as much speed as you can get. you dont want to be the reason an entire server crashes

Wireless is garbage. Don't even think about it. Get a cable and run it as far as necessary.

How is it garbage? It works fine if you have good internet, there is no noticable difference, and it removes the unnessessary clutter. Please stop giving people false information.

Wireless is unreliable, no matter what speed or quality of your internet. Clutter? One wire running from your Xbox to your modem/router is not clutter, it's reliable and much faster. Any number of things can interfere with wireless connections, walls, other devices which emit interference (most electronics), and other devices that use wireless signals such as cell phones. My information is not false as you would like to believe, it is quite the opposite.

Well, I'm running my Wii wirelessly, and my laptop Wirelessly, and I have no problems with them at all. My Wii is lightning fast constantly, and once I do own an 360, it will sit in the same general area. My parents run their laptop up on the top floor of the house (4 floors) while the router sits here, in the basement, and the laptop runs internet flawlessly, every time they use it from up there. I don't see how those two devices can run just fine using a wireless connection, but running the 360 wirelessly will be "garbage" And running a wire from where the 360 will be, here to the computer, will be a huge hassle. They're both here in the basement, but there is a wall between the two spaces, and are both on completely opposite sides of the each other. The computer and router set against the left wall, in the left room, while all the gaming devices are set against the right wall in the right room. And I don't feel like drilling a hole in my wall to that I can run a massive wire between the two rooms.

The wire isn't massive. Besides, you can't contest that a wire isn't better than none. A direct connection is always better than wireless. For fps, it's vital to have all the speed possible. I highly doubt all you said about the wireless connection running through concrete basement and two floors of a house.

Not everyone has their Xbox right next to a modem. If a modem is a room apart from an Xbox, like me, I wouldnt want a long wire running through rooms, its just not worth it. The speed is not noticable while playing FPS, and I couldnt even tell the difference between wireless and wired, other than the ugly green cable I had running from room to room.

Dont make it seem like the comparison between wired and wireless is a world difference, its not. Wireless > wired

You'll be able to find the wireless adapter for around $70 this holiday. Just look around for sales and special deals. I've seen them for ~$65 plent of times. Good Mutliplayer gamse are Halo 3, CoD4 and R6: Vegas.
