I'm thinking of buying a Wireless Network Adapter, but I have some concerns. First of all, how fast is the connection? A friend told me that he is not able to host online games when using the adapter. Secondly, can it reach through two floors? I have been able to get a signal on my DS in my basement, so I'm assuming this won't be a problem.

My only other option is to run a rediculously long cable up two flights of stairs and down two hallways, so I'll probably buy the adapter no matter what. Still, I would like to know how good of a connection I will get.

I have a wireless adapter and it works fine. No trouble hosting online games and whatnot. But then again, my adapter is on the same floor, so I am not sure how effective it is through two floors. Sorry

funny, i have two floors and a couple hallways separating mine as well. anyway, works fine whether it's next to the router or up a flight of stairs, connection is great, whenever i play rainbow six i host all my matches even with the router, hardly ever do i get complaints of lag.

Depends on your internet connection and your router / wireless network. I've got a great wireless network, so mine runs nearly as well as a wired connection. I love mine.

Your friend probably can't host games because his router sucks, If your router isn't fast enough then your networking adapter isn't going to be fast.

I had the exact same problem, bought the adapter, and it works great. My 360 is in the basement, my wireless internet router on the 2nd floor and I host all the time. Its a good connection for me.

I don't know anything about routers so I don't know how "good" mine is. On a computer, I was able to get a signal in my basement of 11.0 Mbps, whatever that means (I'm assuming it means megabytes per second). Is this enough to host games?

The hosting games probably has to do with your friends NAT settings.

ive been thinking of getting one out of practicality. im likely getting a multiplayer game soon, and ihave the orange box. plus, im up two flights of stairs from my router.

whats a "good router"? when you say good, do you refer to how fast the connection is (my laptop and my brothers ds work great up here, although not the same for the wii) or are you referring to the router itself? (my adaptor came with our broadband so it may not be the best out there)

I have the 360 Wireless Network Adapter and I have the LinkSys Router that I got from ComCast and I almost never lag. But then again I have my 360 about 20 feet away on the same floor. What sucks is I'm stuck using my university's internet service ATM and it sucks I barely ever can get a good connection when I'm at school.

I'd say Linksys or Dlink. There are some routers that will give you NAT issues. There's a list somewhere on the xbox.com site with routers that will definitely work. I don't know if it's been updated but that would be a good place to start. There are also routers that have that Xbox Live certified sticker if you look around.

I had a netgear n- next router... had nat problems, but I read directions on configuring port forwarding which resolved the issue.. it runs super fast now.

the wireless network adapter is great and i definitely recommend it. the connection is just as good as wired as long as u hav high speed internet (which u need for Xbox Live anyway) and a semi-decent router. if u've got all that ur good to go and will NOT have any extra lag problems that u wouldnt have if u were a wired user...

well, I have it, and I love it. I dont have to have a wire, and it works fine, green 24-7 unless the game im in has a bad connection or something. I am on the same floor as mine and Im about maybe 25ft away from mine going through a couple of walls, and I get a constant full bars. So, you should be fine, you should be able to get at least half of the bars, and that will be fine enough as long as your NAT is forwarded correctly and set to open.

If you have a Vista computer near your 360 don't bother buying an adapter. You can connect to the internet and Xbox Live through your PC.

I talked to my friend again, and he said he didn't remember saying he had hosting problems. Maybe I misinterpreted what he said. I don't know what NAT settings are or how to change them, though.
