I finnaly quit . It was hard but I made it. This is my story of my addiction to Xbox. Feel free to post your addiction stories as well.

December 25th, 2005

I was asking for a Xbox 360 since it came out. Everybody had one and I wanted one really bad. I wasn't much of a gamer really. just played PS2 rarely. But the 360 looked really cool. I loved the Halo series becuase me and my friends would have parties all the time and play. But anyway, it was on my list and the day I opened that gift raping and seeing a Xbox 360 pro was awsome. My parents got me Need for Sped: Most Wanted and Halo 2. I played for about 1 hour that day.

Janurary 1st, 2006

It was a new year, hooray. I bought Call of Duty 2 and a faceplat, Woody. CoD2 was amasing. I played it for about an hour a day because of school and other things, like sports. I started getting into a thing called Xbox LIVE. I never knew it existed. So my friend hooked it up for me and me and him were playing Halo 2 online all night. It was really fun. We were trash talking and having so much fun. After that I never played much untill I tried CoD2 online.

Feburary 12, 2006

CoD2 online was really fun. I met a lot of people on there. Still I didnt paly that much and never liked Halo anymore. Couple days later I started playing al lot more. My GPA was falling into the 3.4 point and I needed help. I started palying CoD2 for about 2 hours on the weekdays and about 10 hours on the weekend.

September 20th, 2006

New year and im in 6th grade. I started not paying much attention to my 360 at all. But Gears of War caught my attention

November 20th, 2006

Its now amonth later and I'm totally adicted to Gears. I was playing about 4 hours a day and never got off. I finnaly said to myself that I need to quit. So I took a really long break.

June, 2007

I bought the new Guitar Hero and played that for a while. But I was playing travel basketball so I couldn't get much time in.

July, 2007

Sadly my 360 broke down.I had the RROD. My dad tried to fix it himself but he couldnt and hes a geek about that stuff too. He fixedmy ps2 twice.

October 2, 2007

I finnaly bought another 360. I thought I was done for good but I really wanted one. My 6th grade was really good. I got honors the whole year as well.I started getting addicted and this wasnt joke. I started playing about 5 hours a day and never got off but it got worse.

November 11th, 2007

Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 were a huge part of my life. I know Halo came out before CoD4 but I didnt pick it up until later. A couple days later, I went to Target to get CoD4 and H3. I was playing non-stop. I wouldn't get off. They called me Gamerscore Freak at school. My gamerscore was at about 21,000 at the time. I was playing for about 5 hours on the weekdays and about 20 hours on the weekend. SO i was playing for about 70 hours a week.

June, 2008

Gaming was life now. All I did was game. I didn't play b-ball. No sports. Didn't help out my parents. Never went upstairs. In the summer, I played a wopping 13 hours a day. Yea, wow. I was addicted. Call of DUty 4 was my game of choice. I joined xGh05tx Clan and really got addcited. I never went outside at all. Never call my friends to hangout, except on LIVE. It was a disastor.

August 28th, 2008

Too Human took over my life. I played 15 hours a day from August until September 2nd. I had every class level 50 and epic geared. I couldn't take breaks. All i did was gaming. I would sit in the basement and play untill 9:00 am to like 12:00 amor even later. I would do epic runs with my friends all day,. My gamerscore was at 27,000. I couldn't stop playing.

Novemeber 23rd, 2008

My gpa was sitting at 2.1 I got my xbox taken away from me countless times. I missed every thing in class and didnt try out for the b-ball team or play football like I planned. I wanted to do was play Gears 2 or CoD4. It was a sunday morning. Came down to turn the baby on. Ready t pop in gears 2. The screen read "Please contact customer support ::Under that it said:: E 74 Error Code" I started having tears. I couldn;t believe that in a year my 360 would break. But I saw that I was addicted. I saw my problem, but now, its over. Im done with all nighters. Im done with 15 hour gaming days. Its time to quit, and now is the perfect time.

You know you make it sound way more terrible than it actually is. Know how to properly divide your time between education and everything and you'll be good. It is honestly that simple, people take certain things just way to seriously. I love to play games and do so a lot, but I also know how to study for my classes and do other things.

Wow. That would have probably been better in a blog, but good story. (And good for you for knowing when to quit.)

My neighbor across the hall had all-night gaming sessions like you, but finally sold his Xbox when his girlfriend started complaining about it. It's two weeks later and she broke up with him because he was lashing out all the time. (Gaming withdrawl.)

Totally agree. I have always loved video games but I also love playing sports and doing other stuff. I played football, basketball, and baseball through school and played video games and had above a 3.0 GPA so it's not hard to do. Shoot, my cousin got good grades and got a full ride scholorship to play football at BYU (where he is a freshman this year) and he still finds time to play and keep up with everything else. You just don't let it run your life.

I've done some research papers on video games for my english and psychology class and so this story is interesting to me.

I myself am slowly getting addicted to these games, especially with all those achivements and co-op games. Its best just to not even get started.

That doesnt make sense, how can you have 21,000 gs points if you only named about 4 games you played? I smell a fake story and a troll.

i didn't really care for my GPA at that time but I saw that Xbox was affecting my GPA in 6th grade. Xbox was bringing my GPA lower. I was playing more and not caring about school. I never said that I cared about it I just saw that it was affecting it thats all. About the 4 games thing of course I played more games I just wanted to add what games kind of took course and took over my life.

Ahaha, someone making fun of you because of your age. That's one of the things I don't understand, how people can value someones opinions etc. due to their age, what does their age have to do with what they said?

you just need to balance out everything. I game ALOT and i have all a's in my classes, i am part of the tennis team, basketball team, and i golf in a league. I keep my room cleaned and help parents cook (if u call that helping parents). i hang out with friends on weekends. I mean i go to school...sports practice..home..homework..eat..and then game till 9ish. I get around 2 or 3 hours on weekdays and 8 hours total on the weekend. Just gotta find the right routine.

This. You don't have to quit, if you think that you can make a healthy playing schedule or something (seeing as you play heeeaps) you should be fine. Just have a long hard think about finding a balance between gaming, school, sporting and friends. I mean between those 4 things gaming only takes up about 5% of my time. If you don't think you can find a balance, then you probably should quit.

Used to be pretty damn addicted , sometimes playing up to 5 hours a day, but after a year and a half of practically straight playing something clicked and I no longer had the desire to game as much. I still play, but hardly ever on weekdays and only for a few hours if at all on weekends. Its funny though, I still feel the need to own all the best games, even though I hardly ever play. Its like that has become the new addiction or something :/

The battle is won soldier, you've beaten you're addiction. Now what? Well, think about your flaws and try to cope with your losses. Don't be too hard on yourself, you're not the only one who has had to fight an addiction before. Even though you didn't fight anything, you just got lucky.

Now think to yourself... did you quit because your Xbox broke, or because you really saw what was wrong about your life?

All in all I hope you clean yourself up like you say you will. Manage your time better, do what makes you happy.

Xbox wasnt making your GPA lower, you were. Ok, i play my 360 online like 3-4 hours a day. My GPA is fine and my life is good and i have friends and do stuff with my family. Its not like you are getting home at 8 p.m. after school. Saying you get home at 4 p.m. after school, you play for 4 hours, its only 8 o'clock p.m. Thats time to do lets see, homework, family time, and other activities for around 4 hours. And if you play basketball or some other sport after school, say its for 2 hours, ok you get home at 6, thats still around 4 hours to, play games, do homework, and family time. It sounds like you just decided to do nothing all day

I think I also am about to quit the 360 union and move on to the PS3 =].

To many stuff has made me rethink the 360 and many things and made me think about the PS3, some of the people I know have one and I just think it's amazing.

I'll probably get bashed on here but oh well.

I don't think you should quit... just cut back. Get some disicipline and stop these 15-hour gaming sessions. Balance school and games and you'll be all right.

Don't quit, just limit yourself. I hate to admit it, but I'm in college and sometimes will play video games until 4 am when I have class in the mornings. It's easy to over indulge because its so damn fun.
