well the real reason it was banned is because he probably had alot complaints filed against him because of his name and it happens all the time. nothing to do with MS. Also MS just peeled back their GT restrictions on religious and sexual names. Political was never grounds for a banning or at least ive never heard of it.
God bless America
I'm so happy these morons get banned for having these names
Enough with the "well I want my name to be as inflamatory as possible because that's where I speak my mind"

Freedom of speech does not apply to things like Xbox Live because it's a privately owned service. There's a terms of service to xbox live and it asks you to read it before signing up. Same things work here on Gamespot as well. What a name to pick anyways. The kid picked it to annoy people.RoslindaleOne
exactly. of course you'll get your gamertag revoked if you pick a negative term like Impeach. and using the current president makes it a nobrainer. If you put something like Mpeach Bush or mpeach Clinton, they'd probably not make you change your gamertag, but u never know. It's best to just pick a gamertag that you KNOW will not be offensive to anyone (especially at Microsoft). that kid got what he deserved. Your gamertag is not a place to "make a political statement." Play games on xbox. do your political speeches on the internet, or on a street corner. lol
I'm so tired of the cry babies saying.."no fair my gamertag got banned, this is against my rights!" Bull crap..stop trying to make insulting gamertags that do nothing but stir up trouble, and or TRY to get yourself attention. YOUR rights don't exist on a private service like Xbox LIVE which Microsoft makes the rules the way they want (and last I checked you had to accept their agreement before you joined Xbox LIVE, so go read it because I know ya didn't). If you don't like it and want YOUR rights, then leave Xbox LIVE and never sign on again.I guess we are losing our freedom of speech. A 15 year old loses his gamertag because it is considered bad. How about you come into my house and tell me what rights you have..I'll tell you to get the hell out. It's no different than people crying about the bad things on TV..well simple solution..DON'T WATCH TV!! I'm happy Microsoft is proactive with the ignorant gamertags going around. I don't know how many racist ones I've seen on LIVE that manage to get by. Be happy they're very proactive with these things because Sony users are by far worse. I seen one gamertag on PlayStation Network that said "Blackguywit****" ..so people be happy Microsoft doesn't sit on their hands and do nothing the Sony way!
I think we fail to realize it's about gaming and not drama!! And since the boy is 15 years old it's pretty obvious he's a imature attention go getter. Which is why I'm happy xbox live aint free because I could only imagine the high influx of additional ignorance.

exactly, that is why I can't say words like class on phantasy star universe. C L A S S, I don't know if I can say it here either.
I don't care about Obama one way or the other, but I fully support troll persecution.
You can say whatever you want on your own time. WhenI'm on a private service I'm paying for, I don't need mypersonal time wasted by attention junkies who think they're clever. Go start a Web site and get off the servers.

He should have been banned in general, you keep stuff like what he said to himself.I bet there was Bush hate gamertags that were reported and changed. Just this is a different case because its in a news article. Which gives me the impression that this kid is an attention whore. And attention whores use names like mpeach obama. How much would you like to bet that NOBODY would complain if somebody had the gamertag "mpeach Bush"? back when he was president?
MathMattS
I can see why it was banned, your basicly openly saying that you don't like Obama, and while it does seem a bit over the top to ban the gamertag there are two reasons why it had to be.
1. There is no "Greetings from your pals here at Microsoft, we know you hate Obama and we know you want to see him get impeached but your friends in the community don't like it so can you please change your gamertag, your friends demand it." You can't be given the option to change your gamertag, and if your gamertag does get banned suck it up, get over it, this kid is such a baby.
2. If Microsoft had not banned the gamertag they would basicly promoting people to make their gamertags, HailHitler, 9/11Bomber, and ObamaKiller, how would you feel if you went onto XBL and saw a guy named U.S.OnFire, I would think the guy was a terrorsist. So whoever banned this kid was offended and if someone is offended XBL has to do something otherwise they would have to power over what goes on.

And it DID bother people, so then it got banned. I don't see a problem with this.
As others said, you agree to the ToS when you sign up. You waive your right to Freedom of Speech by agreeing to the ToS. Gamertags shouldn't be used as grounds for insulting others.
Boo hoo... he got banned oh noes!
I personally don´t care if I see a gamertag that says mpeachobama, it wouldnt bother me. But the kid was CLEARLY picking the GT to piss people off. I have no sympathy. If your paying 50 bucks a year for a private service, no reason to dick around with your name.
What does freedom of speech have to do with Xbox Live? It's like when people get modded here and rant about free speech, Xbox Live and this website are not the United States. They are owned by someone and are used by people throughout the world.I guess we are losing our freedom of speech. A 15 year old loses his gamertag because it is considered bad. Also
"This name is actually, it's not likeable," ....What?
yeah quit your complaining. they probably made you change it because people complained. a buddy of mine was named KY Jelly, and people complained, so they had him change it. no big deal or political adgenda. change it and get over it, or cancel your subscription. M$ could care less
I'd have to agree with MS on this - he's done it to annoy other people and so deserves to have it removed, whether or not it should be offensive is a different matter, but since it was clearly going to rile people it's good they took action and stuck to it.
The only thing I can add to this conversation really, is that MS have recently changed their name policy. In the past, people would get friends to submit multiple "bad gamertag" reports on them, and when it hit a limit, MS just send a message telling the person to change it; for free (making it a cheap work-around instead of paying to get the gamertag changed.
However, they now look at the gamertag manually after it gets any complaints at all; and if they deem it to be safe - it doesn't get changed (no matter how many complaints). But, if they deem it to be a breach of the TOS they now make you pay for a change instead.
Generally I have to congratulate the Xbox-Police; they do a better job of keeping xbox live clean than any other similar service does.
Impeach him for what crime?
I bet the kid didn't even know the difference between impeachment and being taken out of office.

Agreed. If i want to hear political soapboxes, i'll go to a political website. I already see plenty of legit and facepalm worthy debates on Youtube and such.

Tends to happen quite a bit on the internet and in similar areas especially by the opposing party.
If it wasn't just made to draw attention and troll, I just have to ask just how much a 15 year old knows about politics to make such a statement anyways? Maybe after he's old enough to pay health care, worry about college tuition, oh you know have a job, pay bills, ready to buy a house.. basically do anything more than do homework, play sports and sit around playing video games while drinking a juice box and eating fruit rollups... Then maybe I could see it really trying to make a statement beyond "hey, it's me time."
Now mind you i'm not saying this to undermine the intelligence of a 15 year old, I'm more trying to point out that a 15 shouldn't even be thinking about politics they should be concentrating on being a kid and having fun while it last.
Wasn't there just an article on GS that MS was allowing religious, sexual preferences, etc allowed in gametags? Why not political too?

Microsoft restricting expression on their network is not violating anyone's right to free speech. Microsoft is not the US government. Xbox Live is a members-only club. They're free to make any rules they please, just like you're free to leave if you don't care for those rules.
EDIT: Forgot "not."
well the real reason it was banned is because he probably had alot complaints filed against him because of his name Gen007That. I somewhat wish that PSN had that feature where if the person's name was offensive, you could file a complaint. There's this one idiot on there that has a name that says... well put it this way, at the end of his username it said N****rs. It said the N word and he was being offensive about it in his username.

theres a difference between expressing ones views and bashing anothers well in politics, commercials always bash their opponents for elections. And you cant say they don't.[QUOTE="Gen007"]well the real reason it was banned is because he probably had alot complaints filed against him because of his name coolkid93That. Yeah the kid is 15 and doesnt know $hi+ but his views should be preserved, not silenced. IMHO, Obama hasn't been the greatest during this time, Especially since "there's a turd in the punchbowl".
It is a shame that in America we can not express ourselves anymore. I think that he should be allowed to have that gamertag. ZombiefiedZomBXbox Live is not America.

Just because something 'high up' does something, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.
I'd say that just raises the question: "Why should political parties be bashing each other all the time?" - maybe if they spent more time focusing on how they could improve the country and less time on what other parties have done wrong - we wouldn't be in a mess all the time (this goes for most western countries). Not to try to derail the topic, but in my opinion - a lot of the reason people don't trust politicians any more is because they are always saying about how everybody else is doing everything wrong; if people were looking more positively it wouldn't feel like the world was collapsing ever two minutes.
Anyway, question; Does anybody else get annoyed by politicians constantly bickering instead of working together?
So what part of the ToS did this kid break? I don't see any reason to make him change that name.
Edit: Guess I should have clicked the link.
"(mpeach obama21)could fall under sensitive current or historical events," Jordan explained. "Obama being president of the U.S. is a historical event for most of the people there. Microsoft doesn't tolerate such things. Microsoft Xbox wants to be a fun place for everyone."
I guess "mpeach" is offensive now  O America..............
