Surprised no one has talked much about this game yet. Despite mediocre reviews, i am having a lot of fun with the game. I'm almost halfway through the game, i think, and have minor tech issues. It's a very fun action platformer. I recommend checking it for yourself, if you are on the fence.

I'm currently playing it and loving it. This game's premise resonates strongly with me, and this is why despite some minor flaws Im enjoying it a lot. The last game I enjoyed a lot where you had a dog familiar was Fable 2 I think.

Here you can customize him, give him commands, sniff around etc. The Sci FI setting and the enemy designs are great. I enjoyed reading all the logs and enemy descriptions. I like the design of the world. Its just not the kind of setting I get to experience often so I'm having a good time, the soundtrack is nice too I have to say

Fun gameplay overall, sometimes you have to swing the camera around to get back the auto lock but its a minor gripe. Overall I'm enjoying the gameplay a lot

Well it's unfortunate as people on this site only see the reviewers score and judge it by that. It's a sheep mentality and will never change. I remember all the bad reviews Ryse got yet i still really enjoyed it.

I will check the game out like i was intending to before the review and make my own mind up. It's good to see people enjoying it.

Yeah, i enjoyed Ryse too. I'd even go as far as to say i went from liking to loving this game as well. They get a lot of things right, for a very fun experience. The best 3D platformer i've played in a very long time. Good Boss battles, great exploration. If they can patch so the load times are a little better, that would make this game great.

@The-Butcher248: Yeah long load times are painful, but they can be patched later on. What are the challenges like in the game, i mean are they time based, score based, a combination of both or something entirely different, and what do you get for completing them?

@The-Butcher248: It's not so different than really enjoying a movie and then going to Rotten Tomatoes and seeing it got a low overall critical score. I mean I get why they had to take off points, the critics I mean. I was standing on a hatch and I could see Joule's feet went through the hatch. Doesn't really affect my enjoyment, too bad minor things like that but overall I haven't encountered major issues and bottom line the game is meeting my expectations in terms of how satisfying it is to play overall and just the main overall setting.

I don't know if that will hold up as I get close to the end, but I'm optimistic because I'm digging the Core gameplay and there seems to be a lot of other stuff to unlock.

@i_p_daily: All the more reason to hear your guys' impression of the game, rather than rely solely on gaming critics like IGN and Gamespot. Not to diss IGN and Gamespot, but sometimes they have their expectations a bit too high. I would like to get the game, but I want to hear more of what you guys think. For anyone that has the Xbox One version, how does it play? I heard the Xbox One version is plagued with bugs and can't even handle 30 FPS well.

I'm only in about 6 hours and so far I haven't seen any problems, period. There isn't a game out there that doesn't have at least a few bugs. Haven't seen any drop in FPS yet, so far the game runs great on my Xbox one!

It is a fun game. I am not finished with it yet but I am surprised how much I am enjoying the platforming. Combat gets hectic and challenging. Its by far not a great game so far, the overworld is bland and boring. But load times are no where close to 2-3 minutes. Try it for yourself.

@cainetao11: Yeah exactly, same with me I can understand why this game got mixed reviews.....for sure it would have benefitted from another 6 months of polishing. But I cannot say I'm not having a great time, it works well enough.

I recently went into an optional dungeon, was quite hard....lots of enemies and the framerate dipped a little....that's unfortunate, but still enjoying it. I actually like the barren wastelands, there is enough little details here and there for me to enjoy. But that's normal you have people with different tastes and expectations going into it, but I've yet to see someone say they are not enjoying the game overall.

So I got to that point that so many other reviewers have been talking about. Found myself staring at a big door, went up to it to open it and found out I was 2 levels and 5 cores shy of being able to open it. Upon turning around to go find the nearest dungeon to get a core or two, I realized the entire area was littered with enemies who were 5-7 levels higher than me, the majority of which I couldn't even damage.

It's really a tale of two halves, the first 7 or 8 hours of the game were incredibly fun for me, but last night ended in frustration as after 3 hours I felt like I had accomplished nothing. I ran to a few dungeons and couldn't even figure out how to open them, or even find the entrance. I'm not sure I've ever played a game that took such a dramatic turn for the worse towards the end.

That said, I am determined to finish this, and hopeful that once I get a few more cores I can get back on track and manage to enjoy the rest of the game. Probably watch a few youtube videos to see whatever it is I'm missing.

@suicidesn0wman: I'm kind of expecting something like this based on some of the reviews I read, that's why I'm taking my time looking around and clearing everything. Reminds me of some old school games to be honest....not saying it's a good thing, but as long as looking around and carefully exploring will make you succeed I'm fine with it. I've seen some people say they finished it and loved it, and a few others who described a similar situation as yours. Good to know though thanks

@Alucard_Prime: Well, when you get Duncan and open up the Shifting Sands area, don't even bother progressing in there if you're not a level 16 with 15 prismatic cores. Also you'll need to have Duncan and Seth to get to the door. Most enemies in the area are level 20-23.

You ain't kidding. This difficulty ramps up like 10 fold in Shifting Sands. I can see where the load times get real annoying dying again and again. I can't even run away half the time.

According to my save file, after just obtaining the gorilla robot, I am about three and one half hours in the game. According to various pages, it is over 12 hrs in length. Of course there are dungeons and other things to obtain but ten more hours worth?

I have been spending more time enjoying the open world and digging throught the sand with Mack looking for prismatic cores, finding loot, ripping cores out of enemies so that i can upgrade my companions. Im over 10 hours into it and just now started going through the Shifting Sands. Im surprised as to how many prismatic cores are buried in the open world.

I'm not interested in paying full retail price ($40 in this case) for any games on any platform with such low review scores (which means the game will be much cheaper very quickly, especially as Black Friday approaches):

63/100 ReCore http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-one/recore

I follow developers, so I wasn't surprised by the scores of this game.

The Collecta-thon issues of ReCore also keep me away as I tend to get bored with games that force me to collect way too many hidden items to progress.

I've seen games on Steam, Xbox, and other platforms that release for even only $20, but with low scores I know I'll wait for a 50%+ discount which allows me more money to spend on buying more gaming platforms and games.

I know some super fans will buy any exclusives just because they are exclusive, but I would rather use those funds on better games or deals.

Oh look, the fanboys have shown up to derail the thread.

Back on topic, I'm up to 45 cores and level 21. Enemies in the Shifting Sands are still somewhat difficult though manageable. I want to hit level 25 before I try to beat Victor again, might obtain that level quicker if I did a few of the dungeons ehh?

I've also heard of a timer glitch created by the Repository Blitz dungeon that allows you to complete any dungeon without a timer and still collect the loot at the end. Although I usually like to take on most challenges, I know I can't beat the timer on most of these, I may take advantage of the glitch while it's still there.

Also a small note for those still playing the game, I heard that you need 45 cores in order to open the final dungeon after beating Viktor to get to the Prime Core. There are at least 10 cores you can dig up with Mack in Lonely Basin(6 or 7) and The Cradle(3). If you're having trouble finding them IGN has a pretty decent guide, and TrueAchievements has one with images as well.

Had some weird stuff happen like none of the extra dungeons show up on my map and some graphical things. But other than that I've enjoyed this game much more than expected

@Black96Z: If the gamespot notification function did it's job you should be able to see the original response in your email. I can say that I validated step one of the glitch and was able to teleport to the crawler with the timer still active. Whether or not that nullifies the timer in the next dungeon I will not know until I try it out.

If anyone else would like to figure this out, i'll give you the basics and nothing more. You can get outside of the map on Repository Blitz(I believe you can also do this in the Obsidian Run dungeon as well) and teleport back to the crawler to break the timer. Have fun figuring out the missing details.

This is quickly becoming one of the more annoying game experiences i've had. Between the glitches, and the fact you can take 1-2 quick hits and die, is beyond frustrating in the harder levels. I've leveled up my crew, but still seem very weak against attacks. Or they stun you with one attack, and kill you, while you can't move. (Specifically the tower) The pacing of the game seems pretty off too. I get that, that they want you to explore the world, and use your powers to unlock areas, but seems like second half loses a lot of steam... as your basically leveling up 80-90% of the time/grinding instead of a nice pace to the game.

Sorry had to vent.

That seems to explain the low mediocre reviews as you noted it's the second half of the game that is very annoying to you and unfortunately what I've noted at other websites is that people were eager to praise and talk about how they felt at the beginning of the game, but it's the later stages of the game that they seem to do a 180.

Thanks for posting as I'm on the fence as to what to pay for this game this holiday season.

@SolidTy: the game is good the reviewers almost all haven't even gotten far into the game at all. It's a hardcore platformer if you don't like platformers (which lots of people don't like) you won't like it.

That explains the mediocre reviews more than anything else to me. People are playing the game and judging it like it's an open world rpg and then suck at the platformers so they get frustrated.

It's probably the best platformer to come out this year.

While, i'm seeing why they rated what they did.... despite it being difficult... its still a pretty fun game. I got mine through best buy for 32$, and i still think that's a pretty solid deal. I have to agree with Oflow, that's it probably the best platformer this year. At times, it's one of my favorite games this generation, and other times i'm pulling my hair out due to difficulty. I'd say the IGN review is pretty spot on. This game could have been really great, but fell a bit short.

I don't feel Recore fell short at all. The only thing I see so far is the game was cut a little short, but that didn't hurt the game. I also don't see anything really hard or difficult in the game except maybe the timed dungeons. I have yet to run into a single bug or glitch, so I haven't a clue as to what the reviewers were all complaining about.

@The-Butcher248: I get the same 20% off games at Best Buy for a long time now but that is still full price to me when I know I can wait and get it cheaper plus 20% on that lower price in only a month, but it's good that you recognize what you feel are great moments balanced with aggravating "hair pulling out" moments.

@oflow: The best? Wow, that's quite the endorsement! However, I'm not sure how many platformers you played this year and across how many machines/ecosystems to qualify if this game is truly the "best" statement, but it's nice to hear you are enjoying your purchase for sure.

That said, what you posted seems fair enough for me.

I would point out though that the critics do play other platformers on say Nintendo's machines and despite the genre being less popular, we've seen some amazing scores on their platforms by many of the same critics playing the same genre, and in fact some platformers across other machines not even made by Nintendo seem to score quite high. A couple examples off the top of my head this year that weren't even Nintendo platformers like July's 'Inside' which debuted on Xbone but is now on a bunch of machines, and even April's 'Ratchet and Clank' released this year to really high scores. I am still looking forward to a few this year assuming the reviews hold up as well like:

A Hat in Time, Cuphead (despite recent poor previews), Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Yooka Laylee, and Shantae Half Genie Hero. A shame Psychonauts 2 got delayed though.

Anyways, happy gaming! :P

Yeah, I had the same experience on my 3rd day with the game, went back on the 4th day with a different mindset and like you I'm enjoying the game again.

As for how often you're dying in only a few hits, there are 25(maybe more) health upgrades in the game that will help you avoid some of the easy deaths. Some research I have done on the game suggest those are more important in the late game than weapon level.

@SolidTy: Add me to the list of people in the "Best Platformer of 2016" category. While the game has its frustrating moments, it's also incredibly fun.

@SolidTy: Yeah I played Cuphead at E3 and its getting the same negative type early reviews based on how difficult it is. But its also a good game, the art direction is fantastic and I think its biggest selling point is really the couch co-op.

looking forward to it.

Like I said in the hype thread, you're doing yourself a disservice y not playing this game based on the reviews. Even if you wait for a price drop I put it in the 'must play' category if you like platformers.

Anyone play the game sense the update? I haven't had a chance yet.
