Just hooked up to live for the first time today since getting my Elite and lost a few thousand achievment points during Gamer Tag recovery - I knew better too but forgot when recovering! Darn it - guess I get to replay my games and start Oblivion over (again)! LOL

It's not the end of the world to replay games I enjoy so it could be worse I guess. :)

That makes no sense. If you recovered the same account on your Elite that you used before, you should have the exact same gamerscore. It's tied to your account, not the machine. I know because I have an Elite & didn't lose any gamerscore when recovering my account.

Actually I had played a bunch of games offline before recovering - the online gamerscore from almost a year ago overwrotethe one on my console - erasing all of my achievments from the last year. :(

Checked with MS and they confirmed that this is normal when you recover your tag it imports the one from online overwriting the offline one you have on your hard drive. :(

Oh well.

It would happen with any of the consoles. All you have to do is if you get an Elite - or any of the consoles for that matter - is hook up to Xbox Live BEFORE you start playing any games on the new console. That would allow your profile to be downloaded before you start racking up achievments offline. It's only a problem if you play a bunch of games offline first before logging onto Live for the first time on the new console - that's what messed me up. :)

Still get an Elite - they're SWEET - just log onto Live before playing any games on the new console so that Live can load your existing profile first.

I guess common sense isn't so common anymore.

thats really wierd.

you must have recovered it like as soon as u connected to live otherwise your online gamercard would have updated. so in fact it is partly your fault.

It's actually all my fault - I should have hooked up to Live before playing all those games. Even on the Xbox site it flat out tells you that your offline profile will be overwritten by your online one when you recover your gamertag. I had this issue once before after launch and forgot all about it - so it's definitely my fault. :P
