Rockstar really should make a Pirate open-world/sandbox game.

That would be awesome! If they could make a Old Western game (Red Dead Redemption), why not a Pirate type of game? That would be epic.

I was thinking exactly that while watching Pirates of the Carribean, there is so much potential in that timeframe,

Robbing Merchant Ships, Raiding British Colonies, Comandeering a ship...

I'm sold on this, plus I'd just make people walk the plank the whole game and not do any missions.

That would be cool, but I would prefer a serious open world zombie game (not like Dead Rising). A post-apocalyptic setting in a city like New York, or it could be multiple characters with different stories and settings. Either way, that would be really, really badass.

Dang it, I was gonna say inb4ninjas :( But yea, I don't think I would want a pirate game, I'd want Rockstar to do an open world zombie game first.

Anything Rockstar touches turns into gold..I mean them guys no how to freakin develop AAA games. I have a feeling if they do a Pirate game, it'd be on a RDR scale. Imagine them dipping their hands into Survival-Horror..oh goddd!!

I'd expect them to do a Pirate type game at some point - but probably on the next gen.

Pirates are tricky to pull off, but I think if its done right that it could be a really great game, and if anyone is up for the job, its Rockstar.

Yep, I saw this it is called Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned which has some rpg and open-world type elements, and it looks good but even though it different than Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End also made by Disney I do not expect it to be any better.

the only thing is Rockstar is their wierd as real as possible and pirates never used those giant ships in the movies, they prefered much smaller faster ship for obivious reason. Also, that would have to do something to make the sailing more exciting, like swords tourneys on ships between ports exc. All in all though it would be really cool if pulled off right

that would def. be interesting but i can also see it getting too cheesy which i hope would not happen. As we saw with the pirates of the carribean movies, it made pirates a little to cheesy to me.

Both those games you mentioned were great - a Rockstar open world pirate game along those lines would also be great.

Hells to the yes? Perfect setting for a R* game imo. That would be sweet, there's just so much potential there.

[qupte]the only thing is Rockstar is their wierd as real as possible and pirates never used those giant ships in the movies, they prefered much smaller faster ship for obivious reason. Also, that would have to do something to make the sailing more exciting, like swords tourneys on ships between ports exc. All in all though it would be really cool if pulled off right

Why are you the way you are =( Don't ruin a good thing with this nitpicking. History is written by the winners, and I think the maker of Pirates of the Carribean was most certainly a "winner".

Anyways, onto your actual point, they do follow realistic settings. However, realism hasn't ever been first or foremost (regenerating health, "dead eye", etc). While regenerating health is pretty trivial, I think the point is that just because their first 2 settings (the modern GTA settings and wild west of RDR) were realistic doesn't mean that they're next game has to be fully realistic. People aren't saying they should make a space game with time travel. Their juset saying a little twist on how history actually happened (although for a true pirate game you'd need skeletons and krakens and curses and etc...)

I think the only problem with this is the lack of land. A typical pirate would be away at sea for months on end, which doesn't really allow you to explore various towns and territories like in other Rockstar games. If you turned the focus away from the sea, it might work, but then I don't think it'd feel very pirate-y.
