well, graphic-wise, I'd say GTAIV. when I saw the footage from SR2 where you're in the sewage truck shooting crap at people(lol), it seemed a bit blocky, grainy, and untexturized(if that's a word). but as for freedom and just sheer fun, I'll go with SR2 :D

That's not desperation; the idea of advertising is to make you think of their product, and seeing as you just referenced their commercial I'd say it was effective. Anyway, I think the story will blow just as hard as in Saint's Row, but the action looks like a lot of fun.
Since the game haven't came out yet I can't for sure say which is better and I believe that they're not desperate just going in a different way which I think it is more of a humerous one.
The game isn't out yet. You can't judge a game based on gameplay videos or articles. Silly thread - almost worse than "what's the game of 2008" (we're in September).
SR 2 looks fun but I doubt it will make as much noise as GTA IV did, especially since it has to compete with so many games this fall like Fallout 3, Fable 2, Call of Duty World at War, Star Wars the Force Unleashed, Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and Gears of War 2. GTA IV had the luxury of having zero competition, being released during video game doldrums. SR 2 may be an excellent game but it will be forgotten quickly.
both have strong suits. I'm sure GTA wll have had the better/longer story, and more "organic" environment. But I loved the first SR, and SR2 looks a lot like San Andreas crossed with the first SR. so, in summary, eh there both (gonna be, in the case of SR2) good.

Saints Row is the most repetitive game I've ever played, playing the same crappy respect missions, same levels it seems. Go here and kill these generic gang members. Boring.
It acutally looks like SR 2 has no visual improvements from SR 1, and it looks way more like a gta rip off now..... which is really dissapointing.
Please don't compare any games to GTA IV, techinically the game is almost perfect really.
Plus SR 2 isn't even out yet....so kinda of dumb comparing since you see only the good parts of SR 2 in gameplay videos and trailers. Wait till wen the game comesout, mighgt get repetitive, might be glitched/bugged like crazy or the game might be AMAZINg , who knows

Compare Saints Row 1's graphics with Saints Row 2's graphics and you will see a significant change, and then again i think Saints Row 2 is going to be alot more fun due to more weapons, vehicles, missions and customization overall. And don't claim that GTA IV is even near perfect, that game was so dull and boring and nearly nothing to do, other than fetching cars and delivering packages and shooting flying rats when you were done with the main story
I think Saints Row2 is going to be alot better than the 1st 1 because they are adding alot more such as better character creations: Voices, Female, or Male creations I also hear you can make a tranny(lol) but im not sure on that thing lol. New Weapons, More to do, more types of veichles. I can say it will be really good from what I read.
GTA4 Statement: Okay I love the GTA series. Yes I can say GTA4 had some of the best chracter development. So much to do in GTA4 as well and the choices to whether let certain people live or not was great. I never did finish the game but it was great. In saying that it didnt have all the touches San andreas did which I missed.
Closing Statement: I cant say which is better for sure until I can play Saints Row2.

However, I'm pretty sure Saint's Row 2 will we much better than the first, and will be one of the better upcoming releases, but it'll have to really impress me for me to think it's better than GTA IV (which I highly doubt it will be, but it may come close).
I cant really say because the game isnt out yet. If you like blowing people up with rocket launchers and just going round killing people i would say GTA. I have briefly been on the first saints row but i didnt think much of it. It was in a way like gta but i didnt think it was up to much. So if i was you i would wait for saints row 2 to come out and if they make a demo avaidable play that and see what you think. :D
wow i could never say a game is even close to perfect...no matter how good a game is it can be soo much better.
how can you not compare games to GTA 4...it was overrated and lacked variety although you really can't compare it to a game that ahs't even been released.
Personally i play those games because they are SANDBOX games, meaning getting a lot of stuff to play around with in the gamworld. Saints row 1 gave me more stuff to play with then gta4, and saints row 2 looks like it will give me more, so thats how my answer looks like so far.
Not to mention, i like creating my own character instead of playing a new cliched guy.
i would say gta 4. but i thnk that ur goig to see a lot of gta things in there since gta came out first. the devoplers for sants row will see it and change some things up.
