Dragon Age 2 is the latest new game to come out without any SDTV support and a surprising number of people are upset... Honestly I think SDTV is like B&W... I don't think modern consoles should be forced to program for them any more than PC games should have a 800x600 resolutions.

My bet is almost all standard TV's nowadays are in the kids playroom and while it makes sense for childrens games to support them I don't see why adult games should bother.

Imo no, I don't know anyone with a SDTV and you can get a HDTV for very cheap now, I know some people won't agree with this but just my opinion.

Yea for the remainder of this generation. The next Xbox will likely come out in 2013. Every gamer by then should have an HDTV or monitor.

I'm still shocked that people purchase HD consoles to play on a SD television.... HDtv's are fairly cheap now.

My SDtv is still functional. Has been for 12 years now, so I don't see why I should replace it. I always said that I'd buy an HDtv when my current one kicks the bucket but he's a resilient little bugger :P So, yes, I vote that games continue to support people like me. I don't see how support for SDtv-players would hurt HDtv-players anyway.

No IMO. People who buys a videogame before buying HDTV is already doing it wrong.

You can get HDtv's for a good price these days. Shouldn't be a problem honestly.

Stop being so ignorant guys, there are plenty of people out there without HDTVs. I would argue that the majority of core gamers have them, but not everyone else. When I flew home for Christmas I hooked my 360 up to my parents' SDTV, the picture was absolutely terrible. That said, their TV is perfectly fine for TV watching. Or, if someone is just casually playing Wii games, an SDTV is fine for them. In fact had I not played my 360 on an HDTV first, I probably wouldn't have even noticed how bad it was on their tv. Of course if you are going to buy an HD console it is best to have an HDTV, but I don't think it hurts companies to support SDTV's. Many games have 3D options, and I don't know anyone with a 3D tv. Yet I know several people with SDTV.

I was in the same boat. My 19 1/2 year old TV died earlier this month. Finally went H Def. Now we'll see how long my 15 year old bedroom TV lasts...

how can you even make that comparison? HDTV has been around A LOT longer than 3D capable consumer TVs, and the fact that your parents have an SDTV matters little, cause i doubt they do much HD gaming...

While I do have an HDTV, my HDMI cord (or whatever it's called, I'm unsure) doesn't work. It turns everything green yellow, and the yellows green.

I know a few people that don't own an HDTV (including myself). So, yeah.

I plan on getting one soon though.

It doesn't matter how long they have been around, they are making games with 3D capability right? So my point is valid. If game companies weren't already taking advantage of 3D capabilities then yeah, it wouldn't be relevant. In fact I don't know if you knew this but 3D gaming is becoming a big thing. There's this handheld being released soon, and word on the street is that it will have 3D capabilities...... You're absolutely right, my parents don't do much HD gaming. How astute of you especially since I said outright that they don't have an HD TV.

I'm still rocking a box :) and it still looks good to me, though I am getting an LED or maybe a 3D TV soon. Can't wait. What would that mean if they don't support SDTV? My friend played dragon Age 2 on a SDTV and the picture looked stretched and skinny. And it was hard to see the writing.

of course it matters how long its been around, you cant find a 3DTV under $1000 but you can find HDTVs for about $200. So yes it makes a massive difference in terms of how affordable it all is, which is the key issue. why even bring your parents up then? if it has nothing to do with HD gaming and the topic at hand, what on earth do your parents not having an SDTV have to do with anything?

i see no reason why they should stop supporting SDTV at least for the remainder of this generation of consoles

i know a few people that still play on an SDTV, not because they want to, but because they cant afford to upgrade to a HDTV, and it doesnt matter how 'cheap' you can get an HDTV these days, its still not that cheap, especially with the economy the way it is a lot of people just dont have the money to spare to upgrade.....

I'm going to say yes.

Up until about 4 months ago I only had a SDTV. It isn't as rare as some of you guys seem to think. It may be dependent on location, but I know tons of people that still have SDTVs. There were several games I could not get the full experience in because I couldn't read the text. Yes, I know I could have just went out and bought an HDTV, but it isn't always that simple and is not an option for everyone. I would imagine that game developers want to appeal to the largest number of people possible, so I don't see why they wouldn't want to support SDTVs as well.

The very least they have to do is to include an option to upscale fonts on SD TVs. Dragon Age 2 menu text is downright unreadable

unreadable fonts has been an issue on SDTV's on the 360 forever im not sure why this is such a huge shock here. this rest of this gen sure support it. but honestly playing an HD console on a standard tv is silly. further more you can get some HD tvs for cheap these days. just save up for a few months and dont buy any new games. but i mean wal mart has them easily for 200 bucks it wont be a big HD tv but still if your on a budget the option is there for a decent price instead of buying dragon age 2 or any other new games that come out. if your un employed i understand but if your buying new games theres little excuse not to have an HD TV. but ya i reckon this will be the last gen that supports SD TV. might as well buckle up and upgrade.

I only have HDTV's and I am the only person that matters, so no, they should not support SDTV anymore.
