I've been saving up to get 360 and almost have the loot to pick one up.  Now that they've announced that they're putting out the Elite, should I hold out for that?  The added features are nice, but I don't have a Hi-Def tv, just a regular 27 inch tv.  Also, what do I need to connect to Xbox Live?  Sorry for all the noob questions.  Thanks in advance for the help.

If you plan on getting an HDTV then I would hold out for the Elite. If not, then the Premium is more than adequate. For XBL all you need is a cable/DSL ISP and a credit card. They also have trial offers included with many games so you can try before you buy, unless you've already made up your mind to get it. -K

Well since you don't have a high end HDTV, HDMI doesn't really matter. Unless you really really want it to be black, or you think you will need the extra 100 gigs of space, I doubt that paying more for the elite would really change a whole lot.

For xbox live you need to pay a fee, and have some type of broadband connection that you can connect your 360 to.

Microsoft keeps a list of compatible networking hardware here:

But I doubt that you'd have problems with other hardware.

the Elite version is useless if you don't have a HDTV...or if you don't really care for a hard-drive that big. I honestly just think you get the Premium Box...you won't regret it.

if it was me i would think to the future if there is a possibility you will get an hdtv, and all that for 80$ extra i would just get the elite you would hate to get the premium upgrade in a year or so and wish you didnt. But this only matters if you plan to get this stuff if not and dont care about it of course the premium would be good

I'll have to double-check to see if an HDTV is in my budget, might score one within the next 8-12 months. I really appreciate the input.  Thanks again for the advice. :D

I agree with you. One day you're probably going to want to shell out the extra bones for an HDTV and maybe even use the IPTV service, you should pay out the extra $80. It's insignificant when you think about that small additional price being able to give you many more options.

I think if you were to purchase an "Elite" 360 I would wait until there is atleast a $100 price cut. Otherwise the Premium edition is more then good. It really does depend on what you'll do with the console and your budget

Get the Elite, the 3 rings of death problem hasn't been fixed in the core or regular versions of the console.
