The scores don't really measure "fun"
you should also look at the player reviews.
And its a personal thing as well
if you like gory games get Dead space
like fps get Far cry 2
like rpgs get fable 2
All great games, depends on which genre you like best.
personally Im bitter towards far cry 2 just because of the frustrating save system.
In my opinion, dead space is worse than Far Cry 2, but better than fable 2. Many people will disagree with me, but for all the atmosphere and chilling fear of dead space, I think Far Cry is equally immersive (ok, Maybe a little worse) additionally, Far cry is a much more rounded package, and it lasts longer.
There are faults, but if you get bored of travelling everywhere, just hop into MP and have a blast there.

I disagree go right to MP and if bored being kicked then play the real game. The multi player is the best I have played when Ubisoft fix the crashes im gonna live there probably in Mikes Bar though
The thing is though, the RPG and FPS genre have been very heavily populated with games so the reviewers are gonna compare Fable II and Far Cry 2 which means it's harder for them to get higher scores.
While the horror genre that Dead Space is in is left fairly untouched with the exception of mediocre games and occasional Resident Evil.
Far Cry and Fable could be much better games than Dead Space, it's just that the former have harder competition.

I Disagree with that.
Having played all 3 I believe its simply the fact that Dead Space is a better game.

I'm not saying that Dead Space is better or worse than the other two games, I haven't even play it yet. But the fact that it's a different kind of game means that it's easier to like because it's the best/only in its genre.
i had dead space, i still have fable 2...playing it A LOT...and i personally think there is NO WAY Dead Space is a better game than Fable 2.
Those reviews and scores are pretty much based of expectations > final product. People didn't know what to expect of DS, it surprised everyone (except me, i thought it was meh)...whereas Fable was hyped by media and community, wasn't the second coming of christ...so it didn't meet the expectations of all those people who assumed everything and anything.
Summary for those that don't want to read all of the posts:
"I think this is better"
"I disagree"
"I disagree with your disagreeing"
"You're all wrong, my opinion is right"
"I disagree"
"The thing is....the media"
"All wrong"

Games are scored on a scale of what the system is capable of, not how competitive a genre is. Sorry, but Dead Space is the better game.
Fable 2 may come close in "fun" but all in all, it's not the full package Dead Space is. And for an RPG, it's kind of a joke that it's the same length as Dead Space.
I'll vouche for Dead Space, having played through it.
Yes its a short game and many will agree that its one of the game's major faults. But the fault of dead space being short is more in the tone of, well I know that its length was perfect for the story but I wished that the would have dragged on longer cause the experience was actually great.
Its the only game out of the three that stands apart, both fable 2 and far cry 2 is open-worldish, dead space is linear, and you play through the story until its ending. The game uses a survivalist context to fill you in on the story. It has horror elements, but its more of a survival action game unlike what its banner suggests. The story is very much hidden underneath the tasks which you have to perform to survive an alien infest ship, find love ones and escape. So even within the confines of a linear story progression, the story isn't presented to you, you find bits and peices that fit together like a puzzle, you gather smaller cutscenes, video dialogues, audio logs to understand whats truely going on. You uncover plot twists, fake plot twists, and multiple motives within the same storyline.
I just have to throw this out there, but the game design is brilliant. Everything feels polished, the quality of dialogue is top notch, the frequency of contact with friendly NPCs and enemies feels appropriate, and the scope and variety of tasks keeps the game exciting. People say that its different because its one of the few games in its genre, but its different because the gameplay is a breathe of fresh air compared to the other done-and redone survival/horror games out there. Its heavy incoporation of puzzle solving brings a bit of the 'portal' feel to an otherwise focused horror surival experience. You always feel like you're using your wits as well as your gun in getting through every encounter and few horror/survival games can boast that.
Well.....GS says so. Look at the scores. Thoughts???????ahmedbilal1993
I am currently playing and enjoying Fallout 3. So I cannot answer the comparison on that, because I have barely scraped the surface with that game.
I will say that Dead Space is far better than Fable 2. Now, this is coming from a gamer whose favorite genre is RPGs. Fable 2 had the chance to be a 10, and they completely screwed the pooch with the game.
Examples:
MASSIVE glitches in the game, you will honestly feel like you are playing a Beta.
Despite what Peter Molyneux said about the game being open world, other than your cities it is almost completely linear.
The main story is EXTREMELY short, ridiculously so. While the story is phenomenal, the ending is terribly anti-climatic.
The game is also bricking consoles. It bricked mine, and it bricked a buddy of mines, as well. If you go to Lionheads forums, you will see this is a widespread problem. And its completely unacceptable.
Deadspace, however, I loved AND it delivers. It took me just over 18 hours to complete the game on the first playthrough on the hard difficulty, and it doesnt disappoint. Graphics are top notch, and the gameplay is awesome. The game is a definite buy.
As much as it breaks my heart to say this, stay away from Fable 2. Wait until they announce and address these issues and patch it up. (If thats even possible for some of these issues) I do NOT want to see any of my fellow 360 owners have their console die, thanks to this game, too.
GS what definitlly accurate with Dead Space, i thought it was an amazing game. And i dont know what people mean "a short campaign" its got about a 10 hour campaign which is pretty long. I guess people expect like a 20 - 30 hour campaign now-a-days but you have to put that in perspective about the story and everything.
anyway, i havn't played fable 2 or far cry yet so i can really say anything about them.
You can't compare them, they're all different genres.
You should not miss out on Dead Space though. It's a phenomial experience.
I'm 8 or 9 chapters into dead space and I love it. It is a great game to play late at night with the sound up and the lights off. The atmosphere, the strategic dismemberment, and the just plain creepy things you see at times, make dead space one awesome game. The free elite suit did make it quite easy so far thought, I doubt that will be the case on the hard and impossible modes.

Even a fully noded out Scorpion suit wont make it easy for you on the hard difficulty. :D

In my opinion:
Dead Space > Far Cry 2 > Fable 2
