So I finally might buy an Xbox360 because of this deal

At Furture Shop, the Xbox360 is now only 299.99 and it comes with two free games, Gears of War and Unreal Tournament.

This is a pretty sweet deal, I already have a PS3 but two consoles would not hurt.

The ONLY concern I have is the RROD issue.

Can anybody tell me how often the 360 gets the red ring?

I think the RROD seems to be hit or miss. Certainly some people have problems, but Microsoft has been pretty stand up about responding to the problem. They extended the warranty in recogintion of the issue.

I've had extremely good luck. I leave mine on for long periods (often because I fall asleep on the couch) and mine has been fine. Just put it somewhere it has decent ventilation. I've had it since mid 06 and no problems yet.

The new 60gb models are rumored to have Jasper, a chipset that doesnt get PROD. But the deal you got is probably a 20gb model with two games. Whatever you pick you have a free waranty for PROD. 360 build up lots of exclusives since 2005 so there is enough to get from Dead Rising to GeOW2 and Fable2.

The RROD is definitely a hit or miss. You just have to take your chances and stop being such a pansy. :P But seriously, stop being paranoid and get it already. I've been gaming on the Xbox 360 since December 2007. I've never had a single problem with my Xbox 360. And you know something? RROD never crosses my mind because I would be stupid and dumb to be nervous and paranoid about it. If it conks out, send it in for a replacement. No big deal.

I'm the same way. I leave it on for hours upon hours, even if I'm not home, and don't worry about it. If mine I breaks (which it has 4 times), I just return it to Costco and get a new one for free that same day

Wait a couple of weeks and the new 60GB 360s are out. They are going to be $349.99

They may even come with the new "Jasper" chipset...no confirmation on that...but they said it would probably come out August...so with the new 60GB 360's coming in August....one can only assume they would launch with the new chipset.

Thanks for all the advice. I almost definately going to get this in the next few days. I thought I'd ask about the RROD issue, but that's not a problem if Microsoft has no problem reparing or replacing it for free.

And yes, it's a awesome deal considering it's only 299.99 with both Gears and Unreal 3.
