they could have easily just patched it for the first one.... all they have to do is use a different kind of connection.joe11king
That's what I thought as well, although according to Cliffy B during one of the various video interviews, it took them over a year using a team of skilled network coders to make it work for Gears 2.
I dont understand why people are still talking about host advantage. Unless you have dedicated servers there will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be SOME amount of host advantage, simply because obviously the hosts information is recieved and processed almost instantaneously. It cant be avoided. Xero319
It's not that people care about host advantage that much, it's just that Gears had some serious issues with it. The host's bullets fly faster and are more accurate, and it's almost like the host can take more damage than other players. It's not really noticible in COD4, just as a comparison.

i dont agree with that what he said ive never had a prob with host advantage untill gears. halo i play and never notice people running around with superpowers nor those this happen in cod4 to me. I believe its all a matter of good programming if they discover that theres an host advantage in a game it should be possible to go in and try to offset it like adding lag to the host on purpose to make them in sync with everyone. How do you think they got rid of it in gears 2.
um, you mean for all future games? If someone is hosting, of course they will have an advantage. Be more specific please.grafkhun
true, but it's really only noticable in Gears. like an above poster said, you don't see people on COD of Halo running around with super powers, do you?

thats because halo had a dedicated server, but on games like rainbow six vegas the host hosts the game from their interenet, so in those cases there will always be host advantage on some level. luckily i am usually the host :D

Halo 3 is not dedicated and yes there is host advantage, its just hidden VERY well.
Host will still have advantage in one on one sword and shotgun, etc. But only slightly if you all live near each other.
there isnt a dedicated server?? i thought bungie hosted from their servers? im impressed they have a very streamlined internet thennemesi609
There are very few games that have dedicated servers on xbox live, the only one i know of is battlefield bad company.

true. Host advantage is prominent in custom games in halo 3, but that's not ranked matches. still though, would of liked the TC to be more specific.

Exactly - the only time there is noticeable lag in Halo 3 or COD4 is if the players' connections as a whole suck. In Gears 1 - the code was just so bad it really didn't matter what connections everyone had.
