that it will have customizable loadouts and unlockable weapons. I think it's going to be very difficult for them to balance that out. The best thing about Halo is everyone has basically the same starting weapons so it's more even.

The thing with COD and Battlefield and those MP games is you die so quickly the gun you have isn't all that important. But with Halo it's a different story.

I think firefox is trying to say that because the fights in Halo are more extended than in cod and battlefield type games, the mechanics and dynamics of any specific weapon are much more important. I really don't like the idea of different load outs in Halo. I think Halo should be about map control and power weapons, the features that 343 have introduced sound like they would greatly hamper tactics in order for accessibility. Especially their announcement that power weapons will be random drops around the map, which sounds like it could decide a close match.

I really hate power weapon drops around the map, Ive hated it since playing Quake online in 96, and I still hate it now. I was hoping that customizing your loadout would elimnate that.

very very disliking. It's turning into a normal FPS. pick your wep class ect then go into battle. TO me halo was about everyone is the same and If you wanted something better you had to fight for it on the battlefield. This is why i disliked halo reach.(AR's, load outs, armor abilitys.) NOT kidding i use to go on there play 1-2 games be done with it. Once they added the classic game mode. i could play 1-2 hours

AR is a huge no no and still don't understand why they did that. Made it starter and made it sound crappy and look crappy. SHOOT i think everyone can agree we would liked the odst smg or just smg back.

I will give halo one more chance. If it disappoints. I am done with it.

Yes, exactly. Well said. And the standard power weapon placements (like in Reach) aren't bad because everyone knows where they are and they are strategically placed so that each team has access to some at the start of a battle. From then on, map control, as mentioned, determines who gets the so called power weapons. With random power weapons it's kinda like whoever gets lucky gets an advantage. That random chance, as well as players no longer having the same loadouts, decreases the skill required to succeed.

You're right in that the armor abilities that Bungie put into Reach are kind of like this (players having different loadouts). Although over time I don't think the abilities are changing outcomes all that much. No one uses cloak and most people know how to counter armor lock by now. Most people I see just use sprint. I just think what 343 is doing here is making Halo too much like other games rather staying different and/or staying different. I do, however, still think I will get Halo 4. It just isn't an instant pre-order for me like Reach was.

I think customizable loadouts and unlockable weapons would be a good thing. I've never seen a multiplayer game where they were really used poorly.

I'll stick to COD. Halo never appealed to me, and now with this "forerunner vision" it sounds too ridiculous for me to give it another shot now.

I guess I just feel that if you have to earn weapons, you'll have more of a reason to play rather then just wanting to play.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out like Shadowrun's through wall vision. And by that I mean something absolutely no one uses because it gets outclassed by so many other skills.

Now I can understand them in saying that custom load outs gives more guns possibly more use, but I'm not sure it really applies to Halo. I mean it doesn't apply to Halo if they didn't give everyone one of the best guns from the start. I remember in Halo when you started with an smg even in the huge maps. That required you to actually pick up weapons and not end up using the BR every singe second of every game unless you had a power weapon (of course they changed that later).

I am cool with unlocks, but quite heavily against unlocks such as weapons or even perks (in this case armor abilities). They haven't gone into detail on what exactly will be locked, but locking that stuff is quite silly to me. I quite love playing sneakily and having everything that contributes to being sneaky locked until half way to max level is quite possibly one of the most annoying things in the world.

Course they could just take the Black Ops route and let you unlock what you want when you want it. I am just saying the weapons can be completely balanced unfortunately weapons tend to play towards play style so no matter how balanced a gun is to another if you are forced to use a gun that is completely against your play style you are bound to be not as good. Now I was hoping they were going to change up Halo, being a new developer and all, but I would rather have seen a return to Halo roots rather than shifting towards being a tad bit more Call of Duty. If I wanted Call of Duty I would buy that or any other shooter out now since they all have decided to use elements from Call of Duty.

I hate when the only reason I want to play a game is because I just enjoy simply playing... That is the worst. I really need this entirely pointless achievement or other sort of "progression" otherwise there is just truly no reason to play video games. Where did the want to better ones self at the game go? Did everyone decide that unlocking weapons and skills equates to that now a days.

I really wish games didn't give achievements or unlocks because it truly does hurt games that don't. There certainly is a nice feeling leveling up and unlocking a gun, but as many people know sitting max level of Call of Duty makes the game incredibly boring which is sad because I used to like playing games and that has become harder to do.

This is part of what I was saying. I was hoping they would do something new and innovative rather than make Halo more like other online mp shooters. It's obviously too early to see just how much they'll change it, but some of the things the devs said were kidna worrisome. The thing with Halo is there wouldn't be that much to customize. There is no equipment. Just two weapon slots and two types of grenades. Armor abilites is already varied and based on classes. Who knows though, maybe they will do something interesting, like a twist on the base idea of customizable loadouts.

I think alot of my time will be based around the Halo 4 multiplayer, I can tell that an addiction will rage out over that, for me.

The gun you have determines how long you survive, SMG on long range map then your asking to be shot a lot ! From what you say of Halo's new MP i think i will stick to COD / BF for now. One thing i personally would like is an MP only purchase for say half the price! I can't remember the last time i played single player?!

Well I just read the clarification 343 put on Gamespot so now I'm cautiously optimistic. There are still set spawns for power weapons for the beginning of the map, then set spots will get weapon drops, so there still could be a good sense of map control. The no respawn sounds nice for slayer game types, and there still is a timed respawn for objective games. I still don't like the idea of loadouts simply because not all guns are equal in Halo, but if it's just going to be weapons like the shotgun, smg, plasma rifle, and other standard fare then I don't see much of a problem. Also have they mentioned whether or not dual wielding is back in? Cause I miss that.

As long as the location of power weapon spawns' is set then not knowing which one you'll get could actually be kinda fun. It would prevent people who are REALLY good with a certain weapon from always having that weapon and make the game more interesting. And I didn't even know they were considering putting dual-wielding back in... I remember destroying everyone when Halo 2 first came out just cause of that. Then a few months later everyone got better at dual-wielding and I returned to being a slightly above average player lol.

Don't like it, it's selling out imo, Halo was unique shooter imo and not a COD/BF clone know they are doing what " the other guys are doing" and that's doesn't appeal to me.

I agree with you TC, we'll have to see how it works out, but fighting for power weapons is a pivotal part of game play and competitive game play, not sure how I feel about somebody being just given them.

Well idk if you saw but 343 releaesed another statement and it looks like the power weapon spawns will be set, it's just that which weapon spawns at which location will be random. I think that could be interesting, and like you said, can't judge until we see how well it works.

I felt the dual wielding working really well in the reactionary moments where you accidentally stumble into fights and manage to pick up an additional weapon in the middle of it.
