I'm confused, you answered your own question

They've been making games

Their last game just came out a few months ago and besides that they're the backbone of everything to do with the 360 now by creating the avatars and the new "family friendly" Xbox360 experience

They're doing more now then they ever had and they're more valuable now then ever.

I think he may be pondering where the "Goldeneye, Banko-Kazooie, Perfect Dark" Rare went and perhaps less interested in the "Viva Pinata, Microsoft Avatar" Rare.

Something along the lines of: "Remember when Rare made games that people actually gave a damn about? Whatever happened to them?"

Well, at least that's my interpretation.

Well, I'm so very glad that your opinion is validated by game reviewers. However, I still stand by my assertion that no one gives a damn about what Rare is doing these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if they announced another Banjo game at E3 to, in a way, make up for the disappointment that was Nuts and Bolts.

Their last game moved 2.5 million units in less then 3 months

They're the face of the Xbox360

Their redesign of everything the 360 is helped sell over 8 million Kinect's in 2 and a half months

They're hotter then they've ever been.

Jay: That's entirely true and simply cannot be disputed. But does anybody really look forward to new Rare releases with the same baited breath that we used to like we did back in the N64 days? I'm sure some people are anxiously awaiting Viva Pinata 3, but I think it would be hard to disagree that the name Rare just doesn't hold as much wonder and excitement for the average gamer as it did back in the good 'ol days of Goldeneye or even Blast Corps and the rest of Rare's catalog of gems.

I see it as small picture and big picture

Yes, the games you talk about were fun and it would be fun to play their follow ups but what is that really getting the console overall?

A game like Red Dead Redemption is a big hit for the 360 and a success all around, that sold 4 million units so far

Now Rare on the other hand helped move 8 million Kinect sensors plus throw in 2.5 million of their own title and heck, also helped the 360 sell out this holiday season.

Not only is that more revenue to the 360 but it's also more users who will be buying games and giving Microsoft more money to work with.

For me there's a bigger picture then one game that might review and sell well, it's overall how the developers and software bring in money that can be turned around for more content on the console

Yep, you've got a point there. From a business standpoint Rare is kicking a** and helping to further cement the staying power of the 360. Which is of course a good thing overall, but like most gamers, I just want to play great games. Oh well, maybe one day Microsoft will unchain some of the Rare developers to make, oh let's say, Killer Instinct 3. [crosses finger]

Like I said, they still make great games. Just because you want a game to be a huge mainstream titles does not mean that they don't still make great software. The quality argument from unit sales gets old.

They should be making HD remakes of Killer Instinct 1 and 2, they'll be lucky to get a game to come out this year.

I wouldn't call them the face of the 360, but they are selling quite a lot quietly when compared to Ubisoft, EA, and Activision.

The rare we new and loved, that developed ur fav games is gone. If u look at the dev roster from GE or PD, I'd be hard pressed to find anyone from those games still there

. Don't get me wrong I clocked up more hours in pd:zero then I did on cod4 or mw2

The last Viva Pinata was released in 2008 and Kameo was released in 2005, both not very recent and again, games that just don't hold up to Rare's previous pedigree.

Oh well, we could go back and forth 'til the cows come home debating this so I think I'll just abandon this thread now.

Closing sentiment: Rare just isn't Rare anymore.

RARE's name isnt not heaviely listed in the credits (if at all) becasue the port and HD upgrade wasn't handled by them
