I really see no use for the avatars, I still think they're a cheap Mii rip-off.

I've bought a few things. Sam Fisher Conviction outfit, Forza 3 race gear and Band Hero boombox. My avatar breakdances!
It's just a bit of fun, I'm not that concerned about spending £5 on it... I make that back in less than an hour.

I don't see how they're a cheap Mii rip-off. IMO they're a very good rip-off. I think MS took the Mii idea and improved it greatly. The Wii's Mii's are very poor. They look crap.
To answer your question, no, I haven't bought anything from the Avatar Marketplace. I don't think I ever will.
The only thing I'd ever buy for my avatar is the Dragon Sword from Ninja Gaiden, if Team Ninja let them make one. And even then I'd only buy it if MS made a Celebrity Deathmatch style game for avatars (since avatars look like the characters on Celebrity Deathmatch) so I can chop up my friends avatar with the Dragon Sword.
Who here wastes their money on fast food?
Who here wastes their money on video games?
Who here wastes their money on chips and other snack foods?
Who here wastes their money on going to the movies?
No one can tell you whether or not what you spend your money on is a 'waste' or not, cuz we ourselves decide how much we feel something is 'worth'. If somebody thinks that a shirt for their avatar is 'worth' a measly buck, then we have no right to say otherwise. All we can say is that we dont value it the same way.
But really, congrats on your thread(that you acknowledge is superfluous). I hope that you get your sense of satisfaction in knowing that you're not the only one who feels like you do and in trying to put down anybody who feels different than you. Well done.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If people think buying avatar clothes is a waste of money they have every right to say so. If you bought the avatar Lightsaber I have every right to say IMO you wasted your money. You also have the right to say IMO it wasn't a waste of money. It works both ways. Just because some people think it's worth it it doesn't mean those who disagree should keep quiet. Freedom of speech and all that.
Not I. Rather spend money on add ons and games. I have couple people in my friends list who buy avatar clothings like crazy. Not going to hate since it's their choice and money.
It's enough how much they charge us for their games AND their online system. I don't usually buy DLC content and will never EVER buy cloth to a retarded mii-copy.
no thanks i pay for the online and i refuse to pay for something useless rather save it and buy dlc or an arcade game
There's stuff I wish I could wear on my avatar (sneakers would be nice), but I'd never pay for them. It's just not worth it.
Useless? They're just about as useful as everything else you do on Xbox Live. I could say playing video games is useless, and that you waste your time every time you turn on your Xbox. It's about enjoyment, if I enjoy buying items for my avatar who are you to criticize? You people are acting like it's some ridiculous thing to pay (or even have to pay) for avatar items. It's very simple: If you don't like it, don't use it. Microsoft isn't forcing you to buy things, and just a few months ago avatar items didn't exist past the default ones.no thanks i pay for the online and i refuse to pay for something useless rather save it and buy dlc or an arcade game

Opinion has nothing to do with it.The simple fact is that it is NOT a waste of money if somebody felt it was worth it. That cant be argued. All you can say is that you wouldn't have spent *your* money on it. It would have been a waste of money for you, but for that other person, it wasn't. Make sense?
And my main problem is the attitude of the thread title and the OP.Whats the point in trying to imply that people are wasting their money, when its not his problem what other people find 'worth' paying for? Its just a little rude and condescending, to be honest.

Opinion has everything to do with it. IMO avatar items are a waste of money. I don't care how much enjoyment you got out of it. IMO you wasted your money. You're entitled to your opinion but you need to accept that sometimes people won't agree with you. This is one of those times.

This isn't about anyone agreeing with me. I haven't even given my opinion on whether or not *I* find avatar clothing a waste of money or not. I have no idea what you're talking about.
And I think you're just not getting it at all. You can only have an opinion on what *you* find a waste of money. When it comes to other people and their money, you dont get to have an opinion on whether or not its a waste of money, cuz that person cements in stone whether or not its worth it when they decide themselves. If that person is happy with their purchase, how can it bea 'waste'? Think about it. You'll get it.

I actually agree with the dude that reckons its not your right to say we waste out money. If someone wants to spend money on avatar clothing its their right and you have no right to tell us we're wasting money.
I personally buy avatar clothing now and again and thus I think its worth the occasional few points. As for your opinion those of us who think its worth it dont really give a monkeys if you think we're wasting out money so youre wasting your time telling us so. It really is quite condesending

Whats funny is that had you stated that you spent a dollar on a taco from Taco Bell, I'm sure nobody would ever say that you wasted your money, even though the avatar clothing lasts forever and the taco is gone forever in a minute.
People dont seem to understand that when somebody decides something is 'worth' something, it becomes fact. If you buy something and enjoy it and felt it was worth the money, its a FACT that it wasn't a waste of money. Opinion has nothing to do with anything other than what people would do with *their own* money.
And really, to put a final answer to the thread title, the *only* people that have wasted their money on avatar clothing are people who paid for it and then were unhappy with their purchase.

Obviously we aren't going to agree, like I already said. I think you're wrong because people can and do have opinions on everything. Not just the things you want them to have opinions on or what you think they should have an opinion on.
I know that is true because in my opinion if someone buys an avatar item, they wasted their money. IMO my friend shouldn't be cheating on his girlfriend, IMO The Wire should've got a sixth season, IMO COD shouldn't have a new game every year, IMO Gamespot shouldn't have so many advertisements, IMO 50 Cent should stop making music. None of those things have anything to do with me and I'm sure they all happen for a reason. Just because it happens it doesn't mean I have to agree with it. I'm entitled to my opinion. Why is that so hard for you to understand?
You think I have no right to have an opinion on it being a waste. That's fine. That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. Like I said, people don't always agree. I can accept that. You obviously can't.

This isn't a matter of opinion, and I have no idea how you cant see that. What is so difficult about realizing that if somebody buys something and is happy with it and the amount they paid for it, its a FACT that they didn't waste their money.
And I'll say it again, the answer to the thread title is this:
- The only people who have wasted their money on avatar clothing are people who paid for it and then were unhappy with it. Thats a fact. Not a matter of opinion. I thought this was pretty simple, but I guess some people just think they know whats better for other people, even people they dont know a thing about. Pretty arrogant attitude, if you ask me.
As for those other things you listed, yes, you're fine in having opinions about those, cuz those are just matters of opinion. What is a 'waste' of money for *somebody else* is not, though. Only what is a waste of money for you. Simple stuff, man.

I understand what you're saying but I don't agree with you. I think you're wrong because you're saying people can't have an opinion on how others spend their money. I think people can and do have opinions on everything. They won't always tell you what their opinion is because it might upset you or you'd tell them to mind their own business. You'd have every right to tell them that too, but it won't stop people from having opinions.
I'm not trying to tell anyone not to buy avatar clothes. If it makes you happy, buy them. Buy all of them if you want. I honestly don't care. It's up to you how you spend your money. If someone asked me if I thought it was a waste I'd say yes, I do think it's a waste. That's my opinion. If you want to buy them, buy them. No-one's stopping you.
I purchased a few things for my avatar and received amusing comments from friends, also I'm happy that my avatar doesn't look "plain" and has his own look than others. To me it was worth it, and I could care less of what others think because it's not their money to begin with.
I only get clothes for my avator if I have some MS poitns left over from an arcade game that I cant use.
I would never get 1000 MS poitns with buying avator clothes in mind.
There are a few people on my friends list who spend so much money on new clothes and what not, they have a huge wardrobe haha.
Like I said before, If I buy an arcade game or two and there is 100 MS points or so left, then ill get something small or something like a theme or avator shirt.

That's exactly what I do. I mean there are some fun stuff sometimes and it not like the points are so exact that you go to zero with every purchase. People are complaining to much, what's the big big deal if someone want's to show off their favorite game or whatever?
don't get me wrong, if something came out for the avatars that was cool looking and at the same time FREE, you bet I'll get on that, but the idea of paying for that is just redundant if you ask me. And you know what else? The people that DO pay for these items.. they're just creating a demand for them. And what does that tell MS when they look over their profits? It tells them to charge for avatar stuff. So yeah.. congradulations avatar shoppers.. you've ruined it for the rest of us. Thank you. Now anything that will ever come out for the avatars will be something they'll charge for. Oh sure, MS might throw us a bone every now and then with some cheap item for free, but for the most part we'll be forced to pay for them. So no, I would never pay for these things. Why instill those kinds of thoughts in MS's head? Why give them a reason to charge for meaningless stupid things? As if we don't pay enough just to play our games.. wwervin
These themed avatar items are actually created by the developers, and not by Microsoft themselves, though. Thats a large reason we have to pay for them. We still get free clothing to pick from thats added on there thats not themed or anything.
You were never going to get these things for free, so there's no 'blaming' people for them charging for it. Its like saying that people who buy Snickers are the reason you have to pay for them. Well, the reality is, is that Snickers wouldn't even be available if they didn't charge for it.
And why are you so aggravated anyways? You say they are stupid and meaningless, so why are you so upset? Or do you secretely wish you could have it for free? ;)
I spent $1 for something I wanted. That's it for now.
I think it would be far better if the clothing was available as a reward for getting certain achievements in a game. But, MS had to be greedy and make people pay real money for FAKE clothes.
That's more the game developers decision. You want MS to force game studios to put avatar clothing in their games as well as achievements?
I think it would be far better if the clothing was available as a reward for getting certain achievements in a game. But, MS had to be greedy and make people pay real money for FAKE clothes.UT_Wrestler
Is there any difference between 'fake' clothes and 'fake' experiences through a video game?
Is buying a taco(roughly the same cost as a shirt) that much greater than this 'fake' clothing?
What if somebody really enjoys showing off his fandom of a certain game?
Again, just cuz they may not be worth it to you, doesn't mean it isn't worth it to somebody else.
And you've gotta realize that these themed avatar items would have never been offered for free. Its not about being greedy, its about offering something extra for those who want it.
Should Microsoft start offering everything they make for free just so they dont get accused of being 'greedy'?
What makes you the judge of what should and shouldn't be charged for?
For those unwilling to pay for these things, then just dont. Pick your clothing from the large selection of free stuff, and just dont buy the extra, themed(created by the developers themselves) clothing that you dont find worth buying.
