Hello! Im getting a 360 for my B-Day and i have some questions. i like in the U.K.

Q: What exactly is Xbox LIVE?

Q: Is the silver membership free because i saw that it was free and a catalouge and you only had to pay for gold membership. There was barely any info in the catalouge.

Q: What does silver membership include?

Q: IsXbox LIVEavailable on the core package?

Q: How does Downloadable Content work exactly?

Because i dont really care about playing online right now (???? i know) but i would like to have Xbox LIVE alot.

So please kindly answer my questions!

Thanks very very very very very very very much! :)

silver is free, but you can't play online games with it.

Q: What does silver membership include?

access to marketplace (demo's and stuff), messaging.. stuff like that.

Q: IsXbox LIVEavailable on the core package?

don't get core.. it is available for it. but i highly suggest you get the pro. core has no memory, so it's really good for nothing.

and you'll get a free month of gold with it to try live.

Xbox Live is a system where you can play people online and download/buy content

Silver membership is free so you can always access the marketplace to download content however some content is available first on Gold before Silver but you need Gold to play online

You can use XBL with any 360 package but dont bother getting the core as you would need to purchase a hard drive to save your downloadable content on anyway

Some DLC is free, some has to be purchased using Microsoft Points which you can buy with a credit card or a pre paid card

Thanks very much kaotIK_un_basic. But when you say it has no memory, does that mean i have to get a memory card or something? because pro and core both have 512mb unified system memory...

Sorry im just not familiar with Xbox at all!

Pro has the HD with 20gb that is needed for downloads and saves. You need to buy a memorycard if you want to save on the Core edition. But since Memorycards are very expensive in the EU (1/3 the price of an HD) I suggest you get the pro immediatly. You'll need the HD anyway at some point. Games like GTA4 need it and other future games aswell.

The 360 has a HD that can be taken off, so it's also sold seperatly. You'll need it for downloads (game expansions and demos (available on silver)). Core is worthless a relic of an old time of console gaming. Xbox1 was the future with HD, Microsoft made Core because they wanted a cheap version and had no idea how much gaming would chance in the future. Now Core is worthless as game saves are huge in some games and arcade titles are bigger aswell. And some games need the HD to play faster (oblivion) or to be played at all (FF:Online).

Q: What exactly is Xbox LIVE?

A: XBLive is XBOX360 online community where you can download downloadble content and play online with other XBOX users. In a way its similar to Steam.

Q: What does silver membership include?

A: Basically, you can download stuff like demos and videos, BUT you cant play with other people. For that you need GOLD membership wich costs about $40/year (please correct me if im wrong)

Q: IsXbox LIVEavailable on the core package?

A: if it does, then silver membership only. Dont bother getting core, get Elite.

Q: How does Downloadable Content work exactly?

A: there are such thing as Microsoft points. You need them to "purchase" downloadble content (themes, pictures, but NOT demos). Your buying a card wit, for example 3600 points and activate it.

as you can see from the responses.. getting a pro instead of a core will save you headaches, and money in the longrun..

do not get a core.. dish out a little more now and get the pro (then you wont even need to buy any games right away, as you'll have memory so you can download a bunch of demo's to hold you over) plus the wireless controllers are so much better than the core's wired ones.

xbox live is the online xbox service for downloadable content, messaging and playing online. To play online you need a gold membership, but the silver will allow you to download content off of live. THe core system can use live but only if you have someway to save things like a harddrive or a save pack.
