Okay, Soul Calibur 4 is coming out and for the first time it will be playble on-line. Back in the day when Soul Calibur... heck... Soul BLADE (I'm old school like Richie Aprile) came out, my friends and I came up with some "rules" when playing against each other (kinda like in Street Fighter games when you don't purposely throw someone while they're blocking). Follow these unspoke code of fighting with honor and no one will give you a bad rep no matter how bad you beat them down.
1). Don't grab someone while they're blocking. Meaning: If the dude is just standing there blocking the whole time, go ahead and teach him a lesson. But don't do barrage him with little jabs and then throw him. It's just cheap man. Think of throws as more like a combo breaker. A defensive move, not offensive.
2). If you're pummeling someone over-and-over with the same cheap-o attack pattern, have the common courtesy to not ring them out.
3). At all costs, if you have an opponent backed into a corner, be a man and back off. Walk back to the center of the ring, making it clear to your opponent you don't intend to cheat your way to victory. Bushido. It's the samurai thing to do. They'll respect you for it, and will extend the same token of expression toward you as well.
4). If you knock an opponent down to the ground, please don't keep smashing the attack buttons, hitting them over and over again while they're trying to get up from the ground. It just ruins the fun, and it shows how much you suck! Back away, let them know you're letting them get back up, cuz you have balls and want a fair fight. note* It's okay to get 1 or possible 2 attacks in while they're on the ground, but again, don't go combo crazy.
5). After you defeat an enemy, and you still have that 2 seconds of free knocks to deliever your downed opponent, it just shows how classy you are if you respectfully let their dead bodies lay in peace. One solid jump kick is okay, but please don't be like a homeless person who just found a stash of cash and go hog wild on their inanimate character. Be above that. It shows class. By the way, you already won, no need to be a sore winner about it. It diminishes your own victory.
6). Air Combos. Perfectly acceptable. It takes skill to keep em juggled in the air for 5 or 6 hits. I have no problem with that. So stop your whining John it's perfectly okay for me to air juggle you.
That's all I can think of. Feel free to add your own.
btw... Soul Blade. BEST opening intro for any video game. Ever. I'm not kidding. Find it on YouTube, it rocks!
