Okay, Soul Calibur 4 is coming out and for the first time it will be playble on-line. Back in the day when Soul Calibur... heck... Soul BLADE (I'm old school like Richie Aprile) came out, my friends and I came up with some "rules" when playing against each other (kinda like in Street Fighter games when you don't purposely throw someone while they're blocking). Follow these unspoke code of fighting with honor and no one will give you a bad rep no matter how bad you beat them down.

1). Don't grab someone while they're blocking. Meaning: If the dude is just standing there blocking the whole time, go ahead and teach him a lesson. But don't do barrage him with little jabs and then throw him. It's just cheap man. Think of throws as more like a combo breaker. A defensive move, not offensive.

2). If you're pummeling someone over-and-over with the same cheap-o attack pattern, have the common courtesy to not ring them out.

3). At all costs, if you have an opponent backed into a corner, be a man and back off. Walk back to the center of the ring, making it clear to your opponent you don't intend to cheat your way to victory. Bushido. It's the samurai thing to do. They'll respect you for it, and will extend the same token of expression toward you as well.

4). If you knock an opponent down to the ground, please don't keep smashing the attack buttons, hitting them over and over again while they're trying to get up from the ground. It just ruins the fun, and it shows how much you suck! Back away, let them know you're letting them get back up, cuz you have balls and want a fair fight. note* It's okay to get 1 or possible 2 attacks in while they're on the ground, but again, don't go combo crazy.

5). After you defeat an enemy, and you still have that 2 seconds of free knocks to deliever your downed opponent, it just shows how classy you are if you respectfully let their dead bodies lay in peace. One solid jump kick is okay, but please don't be like a homeless person who just found a stash of cash and go hog wild on their inanimate character. Be above that. It shows class. By the way, you already won, no need to be a sore winner about it. It diminishes your own victory.

6). Air Combos. Perfectly acceptable. It takes skill to keep em juggled in the air for 5 or 6 hits. I have no problem with that. So stop your whining John it's perfectly okay for me to air juggle you.

That's all I can think of. Feel free to add your own.

btw... Soul Blade. BEST opening intro for any video game. Ever. I'm not kidding. Find it on YouTube, it rocks!

If number 1 was meant as a joke, then . If number 1 was serious, then :|.

It seems like you were serious... THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF THROWS!

sorry but winning is winning, if you allow yourself to get into any of those situations...you deserve to be beaten and to learn how to avoid those situations.

Hmm i dunno about some of those rules. I used to play tekken tag at my university, and all the regular players had a rule where the 2nd round would be given to the loser of the 1st round. This way we could get our monies worth but i dont think we need that rule online.

I Totally agree , i have been playing online for two days and all i get was people coming over me with the same attacks till i die or they just block till the time runs out.....a few rare people i play with who literally play and use different moves and some " WOW" moves even though i may die by them but at least it makes me hapy they are doing unique moves and fighting for real.

i think we any fighting game, if those b***** just hold block i will be willing to throw them till their health runs out. and i guarantee u that online u will be the only 1 following those rules, out there in the online world of gaming its win at all costs (unless its blatantly cheating with mods, hacks etc)

First i cant use the m16 in cod, then i cant use the shotgun in bad company, now this?

It's fine if you do it between friends, but there's a limit to how much of this crap online i can take.

eventually, u will most likely end up breaking these rules because only a select few of individuals will have read this post... chances are that u will never see us playing against u online.

I play fighters to get rid of daily stress, there are no rules. I will destroy you by any means possible. If there was a nuke in the game, I would use it on you. Play games to have fun, don't take them to serious.

well then the opbvious solution is to not get downed by an oppenent, once again these rules are irrelevant, if you win in a certain way, then win.

The problem is sometimes i care too much about what other people say i mean if i did do that they would tell me noob and just curse [ welcome to xbox live ] and sometimes i dont care but i guess the solution is i guess just dont care and win the godamn game by any means possible:P

you do realise nobody's going to care or even consider them. This games online going to end up like madden but with a better playing field allowing both play to be even to some degree.

it's just a game. play for fun, but play to win as well, any way you can. besides, a skilled player would actually be able to fight back and avoid such actions. that's the joy of it. fighters take a lot of skill and since it's one on one, that just makes it that much better. or maybe perhaps you're just afraid someone's going to do these to you? unless you're playing for fun, then i don't care, but ranked matches, you have to give it all you got

now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to be a man in COD4 and stop shooting people unless they shoot at me first, but then again it's one of those "shoot first, ask questions later" kind of things

Don't worry these types of people will become more common once the game finally hits retail nationwide

Sorry but these rules are made people who suck. If something is cheap then learn how to counter it.
