I purchased and xbox 360 elite yesterday, along with orange box, and plugged it directly to my bravia with the bunlded HDMI cable; I didn't notice any kind of problem at first. However, today a friend brought rock band to play and we notice a huge amount of lag, even when the tv was on game mode, we had a lag of over +30ms and even after calibrating the game was diffficult to play. So I tried with the component cables and the lag was reduced to absolute 0 (with the hdtv game mode on). It seems that my bravia is not correctly programmed with the HDMI cables, is it?

Question: How does the 360 looks better? With 1080p resolution or with 720p? I do not know.

I appreciate your time reading my concerns and thank you in advance for your answers.

The problem is most likely with your TV and not the 360... that is just one of the problems with flat pannel TVs is the repsonse time (especially with gaming). I would just stick to the component cables honestly, almost no games support 1080p anyway so it's all an upscale which doesn't do much.

That's not true unless you have an old Bravia. I have a 40in Samsung LCD and run my PS3 through HDMI at 1080p reolution (although most games don't actually support it). It runs perfectly. If flat panel TVs had a problem with lag through HDMI, Blu-Ray would not be very useful. Try using a different cable or calling tech support.

**sigh** You know when you buy a TV, on the box it gives a value for response time, that is the lag we are talking about. It is an issue with all LCD flat panel displays (be it a TV or a monitor). It is not something that is really detectable through normal TV and movies but something that presents itself when playing a video game. The reason you don't notice when watching a movie is because the TV syncs the sound automatically. Most home theater systems have settings to account for the lag.

In short, this is a known issue with many HDTVs, when buying one always look for 2ms response time if you are a gamer. Many TVs are 5-7ms and you do pay a premium for 2ms. Seriously, if you don't know enough about hardware please don't comment like you do.

I actually tried a different cables with the same results; reading your post, I think that the problem might be an interaction of my bravia with the 360 as it is a new one. I kind of think that the bravia interacts perfectly with a ps3 through hdmi as the console is announced on several parts of the instruction manual.

Also, this may seem obvious, but make sure you know the resolution of your TV -- many flat panel HDTVs only support 720p maximum. Make sure that you go to the System blade on the 360 dashboard -> Console Setings -->Display and set it to match your TV. Also, I highly recommend setting the Reference level to Expanded to get better color depth. This doesn't really address the response time issue, but it will help you get the best image quality. Again, you may know all this, but I find many people are still learning all this stuff.
