Survery for all Xbox 360 Owners (UPDATED June 25th)

My Intentions:

I have a similar thread in the PS3 forum and decided to do one for the 360 forum as well. Basically this is a survey to see how many Gamespot users have had problems with the 360. If you've ever had the RRoD, disc-scratching problems, disc read errors, or other types of broken or bricked 360, let us know. If you've had absolutely no problems, let us know too.

Thanks for participating. I would appreciate any and all posting so that I don't have to keep bumping this thread too much. :P

In order to gather as much data as possible, if you have friends that are 360 owners but do not have a Gamespot account, let us know about their experiences with the 360 as well. I'll keep a running tab of all the additional "votes" here and post statistics below.

• No broken 360s: +15
• One broken 360: +15
• Two broken 360s: 0
• Three broken 360s: 0
• Four or more broken 360s: +1

Total Adjusted Statistics: 8:50 PM EST June 25th, 2008

STATISTICS:

• # of owners who have had NO broken 360s: 220
• # of owners who have had ONE broken 360: 167
• # of owners who have had TWO broken 360s: 62
• # of owners who have had THREE broken 360s: 27
• # of owners who have had FOUR OR MORE broken 360s: 26
• Total Votes: 502

PERCENTAGES:

• % of owners who have had NO broken 360s: 43.82%
• % of owners who have had ONE broken 360s: 33.27%
• % of owners who have had TWO broken 360s: 12.35%
• % of owners who have had THREE broken 360s: 5.38%
• % of owners who have had FOUR OR MORE broken 360s: 5.18%

Here, I will calculate the total number of 360s that have broken down on you guys vs the total number of 360s that are currently working. I will assume that all voters currently have a functioning 360. I will also assume that people who voted 4 or more broken consoles have had exactly 4 broken consoles. For the total number of broken 360s, I take the # of votes for option two (one broken 360) + 2 times the # of votes for option three (two broken 360s) + 3 times the # of votes for option four (3 broken 360s) + 4 times the # of votes for option five (four or more broken 360s).

Broken 360s: 1[167] + 2[62] + 3[27] + 4[26] = 476

• Total # of working 360s: 502
• Total # of broken 360s: 476
• Total # of 360s in survey: 978
• % of working 360s: 51.33% (console success rate)
• % of broken 360s: 48.67% (console failure rate)

Yeah, I've gotten some "surprise" moderations that bumped me down about 50% total since I've been in this level. :? I've still got a long way to go.

Yeah, I'm hoping for the most part that most people are honest with this, but I do realize that I can expect some skewed figures. My PS3 survey says that the PS3 has a failure rate of ~13.5% which I suspect to be a little high. I think the actual value for the PS3 is 5%-10%. We'll have to see what kind of results this one gets before I draw conclusions.

3 of my friends have got the RRoD.

Ive had 1 Xbox 360 that had RRoD.

No problems now.

I'll tell you right now, my PS3 is solid. I've yet to experience any crashes, freezes, disc read errors or anything to that effect. Sony has produced a well made machine. I just wish its game library was a little stronger though. I love MGS4, it's the reason I own a PS3! lol

You're not allowed to compare or talk about the PS3 in the 360 forum. It doesn't matter what your views are on either console, this is strictly a 360 forum.

I used them as an example in response to someone's else comment about fanboys ruining surveys. That's why I suspected that the values for the failure rates according to these surverys would be a little higher than the actual value. I wasn't talking about how great the PS3 (like you did) or comparing it to the 360 (which like I said, is not allowed either in this forum).

Please don't bring up the PS3 again - I don't want this thread to be locked.

have had my elite since it came out (year and a half ago i think) with no problems what so ever, and its going to stay that way because i take care of my system and dont cramp it between my tv and entertainment center....link-a-link

My friend has 6 360s brick on him even though he keeps his consoles in PERFECT condition.

I got my 360 Pro a few weeks ago so of course no issues. Though I thought I heard newer versions were coming out that didnt RROD. If theyre out is there any way I can check to see which version Ive got? Im thinking if the new ones are out I could look for a date code somewhere. Though Google results bring up nothing on the issue.Acurev

The newer chipsets have reduced the occurrence of the RRoD, but they haven't found a complete solution yet.

The manufacturing date on mine is 12/15/05 (i.e. a month after launch) and I've never had a single problem with it. It's totally perfect, knock on wood.grayoldwolf

My first 360 worked for a good 8 months before it crapped out. I let a (RELIABLE) friend borrow it, and he called me as soon as he got it home, telling me that after he plugged it in, he turned it on to make sure the wires were all plugged in (don't you hate it when they're plugged in, but not all the way?). Anyways, when he called he said that when he turned it on, some red lights came up. He looked it up online and found out about the codes that the red lights flash and that mine had an "unexplainable error." I returned it under warranty and got a seecond one.

When my second one came in, I plugged it in and turned it on. Red lights! GAH!!! I called customer support and told 'em what happened, then they told me to turn right around and return that one. (They were puzzled why that one didn't work- they test 'em for hours!) Anywho, the third one's been working like a charm for a year and a half now. I gave Microsoft the benefit of the doubt because flukes happen. Now if only they could solve the fluke of the high game prices...

Two things:

1) At least they handled the problem properly.

2) There should never have been this big of a problem in the first place.

I went ahead and voted one even though it hasn't completely died just yet, twice last week it shut off with three flashing lights, I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop. BTW does anyone know if I can send it in, even if at the moment it works, I would like to get the whole process out of the way.daveyf03
