Swapping Hard Drives?

My 360 just crapped out. With a new one, can I just simply switch my hard drive in there? I heard you can't.

If not, how do I copy my 120G to a new elite's 120G?

I've never had to do it before, but i don't see why not. Seems like you could just pop out the old one and put the new one in.
