Is it any good? I have been looking for a new game to buy and when I came across this I thought it looked really good, I was just wondering if it was. I like almost every RPG I have come across. I own KOTOR 1 & 2, Fable: The Lost Chapters, and Two Worlds and I enjoy them all and have replayed them all numerous times.tinkles87
Another newbie seduced by Bioware... those arent RPGs, anyway play Oblivion, i've been playing it for more than 300 hours and im still not bored. it was my first 360 game back in 2006.
If you've ever played the previous title Morrowind (which you don't need to play to understand Oblivion, btw), then prepare to be a bit disappointed in some of the changes. even so, it's still a good game. It didn't live up to my expectations, though it's still pretty easy to recommend.

I agree with this. I hated the scaling in Oblivion.

You care to quantify that statement?

Judging from the way you speak and your signature, I think it's safe to say that you take yourself WAY too seriously.
You cannot dictate (let alone legislate) what a good story is. I'm not saying it's not okay to voice your opinion, just don't do it in a way that makes you seem like a pompous butt with a superiority complex (i.e, your signature).
Oops, I forgot to answer the thead creator's question. I agree with:
If you've lovedthe Kotor series and Fable, you're downright going to be obsessed with Oblivion.
Iqen
For the most part. Knights of the Old Republic has a much tighter narrative than Oblivion, where you can play for hundreds of hours while completely ignoring the main quest.

I'd say Two Worlds is mediocre. I didn't think it was "terrible." It's a lot of repetitive hack-n-slash, although I should say that I haven't gotten very far into it. Although progressing further isn't very high on my gaming to-do list.

Pick up morrowind if you haven't already.

Totally agree on the Morrowind comment, however if you have a decent PC, get the PC version of Morrowind. The backward compatibility emulation for the 360 version is horribly slow.
I wouldn't compare Oblivion to KOTOR 1 or 2. It's a totally different style of play. Still, I loved Oblivion. Logged over 100 hours and still play from time to time.
I also disagree with the Morrowind comments. I thought Oblivion improved on it in almost every way. Mainly, I'm not crazy about how creatures level with you, and I hate the player leveling system. Otherwise, it's an all-around excellent game.

No Morrowind is better than Oblivion in every way except for graphics unless you have it on the PC and use mods.
The people saying that Oblivion is the greatest RPG ever probably haven't played many others.

I was going to trash talk you to death, but then i noticed you have a good taste in games, you like F.E.A.R, Valve games, you've played the entire TES franchise, however, i disagree with, i've played some of the best RPGs ever made, mainly for the PSX, and i still love Oblivion, the soundtrack is awesome like in all the Elder Scrolls games, the leveling system is almost perfect, the enemy A.I is pretty good, the graphics even though they're aged, still make you say WOW when you see the forests, the Imperial City and everything else, the way the game lets you play any way you want its great, i love sneaking on targets with marksman and vampire attributes/skills, yes its really far from being the best RPG ever made, maybe because the story isnt epic at all, but its still a great First Person game with RPG elements, at least its much better than those hyped and overated crappy games made by Bioware.

Bioware has more RPG talent in the pinky finger of it's offices janitor than Bethesda's entire dev-team.

It's true. I loved Morrowind and I hated the changes in Oblivion. I played through Morrowind several times and never finished Oblivion even once.

Are you really talking about Bioware? like, the company that made KOTOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect? tell me please, how many RPGs have you played? because you sound like a 15 year old kid, let me guess, your first RPG was Fable or made by Square-Enix? if so, your argumment is not only blind, but ignnorant too.

Oh sorry, I forgot I was the ignorant one. Given that fact you completely ignored Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, 2 of the greatest RPGs of all time. Both made by Bioware.
For the record, given i'm not obliged to respond to your arrogant foolhardiness, I hated Fable, and my first RPG was Wasteland.
So either start to know what you're babbling about, or GTFO. Or you can continue epic phailing, your choice.

I'm not sure if you're disagreeing with diablobasher or not. He said BioWare possessed a great deal of talent as a design studio. You responded by pointing out some of BioWare's games: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect (followed by some ad hominem attacks). Particularly the first and last of the these games are critically acclaimed and loved in the gaming community. Was that supposed to be a rebuttal?
EDIT: I'm not trying to get in the midst of your guys' exchange, but as an outside observer, I'm really confused at to what you're arguing about, and what your point is, great_rulo.

Ehh don't worry about it, nobody knows that this guy is talking about anyway. He's living in his own little world where everything he says is right, no matter factual innacuracy, or just downright rediculousness. Takes himself far too seriously and doesn't actually have a clue what he's talking about, makes him a perfect fit to be either a Bethesda plant, or a beth fanboy.

They're the only above average games made by Bioware, Squaresoft was a much better company.

If you get Morrowind before oblivion, you'll experience a lot more features such as more weapons and guilds, but you'll really be turned off by the dated visuals, gameplay, and also the paragraphs of text instead of voice acting.
Oblivion has less Guilds, and weapons, but it has a more immersive and believable world imo, and is just a much more memorable experience all around. If you play oblivion first, it will be literally impossible to go back to morrowind. That's how it was for me.

Oblvion is easily one of the best Rpg's of all time, and as for Morrowind... boring start (cant even hit peopel even though u r right in front of them) and it is quite a choppy game and makes for a bad gaming experience compared to Oblivion.
I have 4 characters on Oblivion: High Elf, Imperial, Kajhit, and a Dark elf: lvl's 45, 59, 42, and 51...all had at least 90 hours of gameplay almost giving me 400 hours of gameplay and i still am not tired of it.
Games great, its cheap to buy so i say get it!
Great Rulo, by reading your sig I almost agreed with you, but after you said FF games had good stories you made me laugh. Have you read a book!? Wow dude, Final Fantasy has ridiculous stories based on older lore. They complicate good, simple plots with cheesy romance, magic, and hairgel.
CoD4, sadly, has the best story (or most original anyway) of the bunch. Anyway if you want a good story read a book, or go on wikipedia.
On topic.....Oblivion is fantastic, and if you somehow like Two Worlds, Oblivion will be an aesthetic improvement that is actually playable.
Oblivion was one of the first games i played on the 360 and i still love it get it as soon as possible.
And i hated most of the FF games, just not my cup of tea. I think you are taking this all too seriously they are just games, Bioshock was a very good game, and most games dont have good stories because they focus on having good gameplay and the story is usually secondary. And i agree with bunnyman read a book instead of spending your waking hours playing cheezy japanese RPGs they arent very entertaining anyhow. Turn based combat get really old after the hundred or so hours FF games take to finish. And how doesnt KoTORhave a good story? It comes with a built in backstory, and the games where fantastic, great RPGs, great games all around, as was Bioshock.
Taking it too seriously drains all the fun out of it.

It's okay, because that isn't physically possible.
All side quests and caves explored? Leveled your guy up to the max level?
The main quest is not even close t a majority of the game.
